I loved Sandberg as a player and at this point I have nothing against him as a mgr. I don't have any idea if he'd be good or bad, terrible, or great or average. I don't want him to get the job because he would get get ALL of the credit for anything good, and NONE of the blame for anything bad, and it would be annoying. Here's a scenario I can see the first week of the season: Cubs down 2-1, 5th inning runner on 1st none out. He has a non-pitcher sac bunt, moving the runner to 2nd. From there walk, walk, 2 run single, 3-run HR, 6-2 lead. The Cubs end up winning 8-3 or something. I can see the postgame with Hollandsworth: "it was that sac bunt that put the pressure on the other team that led to the big rally, ya see THATS the difference with having Ryne Sandberg as your manager." I'm not exaggerating, anything that goes right will be all his doing.

I don't hate Sandberg, I'll always appreciate what he did for the Cubs as a player. But I'll put it this way: If his name wasn't "Ryne Sandberg" would ANYONE be suggesting him as a candidate to replace Lou when he moves on?

Touching on the Dick Stockton thing ...after a great reg season, we not only get Stockton, we get swept again, and our stunned silence watching at home is only interrupted by the awful previews for "Frank TV".

I'm pretty sure Jack Buck was doing the PBP at that time as CBS was the channel for Game of the week and the playoffs. -
The Cubs are 13th in the NL in number of times they've struck out, not striking out does NOT mean you're going to put runs on the board. I'm not saying Catalanotto isn't a good pickup (I think he IS a good pickup), but one of the biggest misperceptions of the Cubs in recent years is they don't score runs because they strike out so much. Even in '04 they were only 7th in K's, which isn't bad for as many HR's they hit. I don't worry much about the strikeout frequency of a hitter, I care about how much he gets on base, and how much power he has.

I'll tell ya what'll happen with Murton. He'll get off to a slow start and after 80-100 ABs be hitting .240-.250 or something and Dusty will use that as an excuse to bench him, then bury him.

Yes, it's beyond comprehension what Dusty does with the lineups, but while shifting the lineup around would help, there just isn't much to work with here. When Hendry has done interviews in the past, he doesn't seem to think OBP is that big of a deal. To me this is the biggest problem.
