  1. As much as I want Fields to Wally Pip Dalton and Foles in football oblivion, why is Fields more ready to play when Foles is the alternative than when Dalton is the alternative?
  2. I was driving and listening on the radio. Anyone know why the Bears went for it on 4th down instead of kicking the 49 yard fg?
  3. I was thinking more Edgar Martinez.
  4. I already know St. Louis is going to win that playoff and probably beat SF in the LDS too just to piss me the hell off This is going to be that 2006 [expletive] all over again isn't it? Where they go a very average 83-78 and win the WS anyways. That or they upset the Dodgers and Giants before rolling over against the Brewers, and the Brewers then win the WS.
  5. He’s been miserable in his last ~7 starts.
  6. If they actually address the needs of the team - get a starting infielder, starting outfielder, a couple real starting pitchers, at least one high leverage reliever, a backup catcher - I’m not going to be particularly concerned whether they spend $80 million or $120 million to do it. None of that will happen with an $80 payroll. I meant $80 million more than what they’re already obligated for.
  7. I think I can be angered at how the team was put together and pleased by their play at the same time. If the Cubs go into 2022 with a $75 Million payroll, I certainly won’t be watching any games. If they go into 2022 with a $125 million payroll you shouldn't watch any games. If it's $150 million, maybe watch opening day. Anything short of a top 5 payroll from this organization is an embarrassment. 8. ptr thanks you for your loyalty I think I can be angered at how the team was put together and pleased by their play at the same time. If the Cubs go into 2022 with a $75 Million payroll, I certainly won’t be watching any games.
  9. I don’t care what anyone else says. This team has been fun to watch for the last month.
  10. In other former Cubs news… https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/32182800/ex-mlb-pitcher-mike-montgomery-throws-rosin-bag-hits-ump-kbo-game
  11. PTR is grinning from ear to ear while thinking of Schwindel, Madrigal, Hoerner, Wisdom, and Ortega in the daily lineup and Alzolay, Mills, Steele/Thompson in the rotation with a bullpen that has Wick, Heuer, Rodriguez, Morgan, and Maples all at or near the league minimum in salary. Do you really think the Cubs are going to have a payroll under $100 Million next year?
  12. That ended up being a great game. That’ll be a real good QB match up when Tulane plays Ole Miss in 2 weeks.
  13. 4 innings pitched last night and 9 more tonight by guys who will actually be on the team next year. No runs allowed. So, that’s nice, even if it is the awful Twins.
  14. …by a guy who had a +5 ERA entering the game.
  15. It would probably work out best for both the Cubs and Heyward for him to be outright released. Heyward would then get more control over wherever he goes. The Cubs would have to eat his contract, but to get rid of him via trade they were going to have to eat a huge chunk of it anyway and by releasing him, they won't have to give away any of the assets they just worked so hard to acquire.
  16. And still not sure why Hoyer decided to go bargain basement with both Jake and Trevor Williams instead of spending basically the same amount of money to get one of Taijuan Walker, Desciafani, or one of the other relatively cheap but legitimate starting pitching options on the market last off season.
  17. huh - that's three out and only two in. I wonder what additional move will be made. Wondering the same thing. Keegan Thompson or Corey Abbott up to take Jake's spot in the rotation? Not that they really need to bring a sixth starter up. My vote would be for one of Leeper, Hermosillo or Rivas.
  18. Grossman was the one who got Brett Favre comparisons when he came into the league. Injuries completely stunted his progress. I don’t know if he ever would have been a great or even good QB, but he played only 8 games in his first three seasons in Chicago. Was the starter on a Super Bowl team his fourth year, when he started all 16 games. Then only played 12 games in his last two years in Chicago. Not all of those missed games were due to injuries. Dick Jauron inexplicably refused to play him for most the season his rookie year. And then some of the missed time in 07 and 08 could have been benchings. I don’t remember.
  19. I keep waiting for whatever is happening with Wisdom to stop happening, but maybe he’s actually an MLB hitter? He certainly looks the part. Can he be a reliable .775 OPS hitter and not so detrimental in the field that he could actually be a piece of a decent team?
  20. I’ve been watching some Pacers games ever since Darren Collison signed with them a few years ago. That’s a fun team. When they can actually get three or four of their starters on the floor at the same time.
  21. Would not surprise me. From the outside looking in, something has just seemed “off” about this team since at least the end of the 2018 season. Hard to put a finger on it, but I would not be surprised if some unhappy “behind the scenes” stories start coming out now that most of the principals are no longer in the locker room.
  22. The Cardinals don't really have an option to sell off. Of their 5 pending free agents, 3 - Molina, Wainwright and Carpenter - have their 5 and 10, Martinez just had thumb surgery and is likely out for the year, and Miller isn't likely to net anything worth doing. So they might as well grab another starter and see if they can hang around a mediocre Brewers team.
  23. I almost have to start rooting for the Giants to win that division simply because an all-or-nothing Dodgers/Padres wild card game will be absolutely IN-SANE!
  24. I knew the Cubs would get less for Tepera than they did for Chafin, but a guy barely scraping the top 30 of a bad farm system still seems pretty light.
  25. I’m ready to see if Wisdom can handle some left field. At least until Rizzo is traded.
