  1. If this doesn't move Fukudome to the top of the order I'm going to flip out. Fukudome Theriot Lee Ramirez Soto Derosa Murton Johnson/Edmonds Still looks pretty good.
  2. Let Edmonds and Johnson play full time. That is perhaps the worst possible solution.
  3. I think people are overreacting a little. Soriano is a good player, he's not a great player. The loss of Gallardo is much bigger than this and the loss of Pujols is comparable. If this team collapses due to the loss of a mid to high .800's OPS guy with poor defense, then they have other problems.
  4. Someone needs to tell Sutcliffe that Lee had a broken wrist, not hand, and that there's a pretty big difference between the two.
  5. I don't care if he 'kept getting injured', he'd never OPS'd even .900 in a season at any level and now he's OPSing nearly 1.100 when he will turn 30 in a month. It's a load of crap any way you slice it. Becareful with that argument. D Lee went multiple seasons without an OPS over .900 and about the same age posted an OPS of 1.1. Were you calling that a load of crap? Obviously Ludwick isn't as good as Lee, and he won't end up with an OPS of 1.1. But he could still end up at .9-1.0 Are you really comparing Lee's pre-2005 performance to Ludwick's pre-2008 performance? Really?
  6. Wow, the Mets are such a disaster. Billy Wagner just served up a game tying 3 run bomb with 2 outs in the 9th.
  7. Why are people even visiting a Sox forum? I couldn't care less about the White Sox.
  8. Did Sutcliffe really just say Dempster has great control?
  9. He'd be out over a month, definitely. Didn't Chase Utley only miss like 3 weeks with a broken hand last season?
  10. How serious is a broken hand? Not as bad as a broken wrist, right?
  11. I see your Pujols and raise you a Soriano.
  12. Haha @ most of those guys, especially Tim Redding. Since the break of last year (when he came back from being out for most of the last 3 years with injuries), Redding's put in over 150 innings, 3.88 ERA, with a 1.38 WHIP. His BBs are down and Ks up from last year, thought not still great obviously. Marquis's career best WHIP is 1.35, but is currently around 1.65. I don't think I need to rehash his ERA or other peripherals. Considering we wouldn't have to give up Pie or anyone like that, I could live with Redding so long as he displaced Marquis from the rotation. If he can't stay healthy (his main problem), then Marshall (or Hill if he gets his act straight) replaces him. Either way, we upgrade from Marquis, who is a good bet to physically last the year and not go down (while ironically taking us down). If we can't get a bonafide # 2 starter (which should be our #1 priority), then I would look for a *cheap* option to improve the #5 slot in the rotation (assuming someone in house hasn't stepped up and pushed Marquis out yet). Redding is an upgrade over Marquis, and should be as cheap as any other alternative out there. That said, if I'm Washington, I know I can't get anything good for Redding with his injury history, so I ride him while he's pitching decent. You act as though a 1.38 WHIP is good. Redding might be a small upgrade over Marquis, but what would be the point? The Cubs don't need another mediocre back of the rotaiton type starter, they need a front of the rotation guy. Redding isn't even better than Marshall.
  13. When healthy, Harden is better than Sabathia.
  14. I think it's Wario. Or maybe Jose Valentin.
  15. It was because he missed the cutoff man. A throwing error I'd imagine. He missed the cutoff man on a throw to second to try to prevent a double? That's not an error. The play was at second and the throw went to second. It shouldn't matter if the throw is off-line or if the runner hesitates. Nothing Soriano did allowed that runner to stretch it into a double since you can't assume a putout at second. Escobar had stopped around first. He only went to second when he saw the throw get away. If Soriano fields it cleanly and hits the cutoff man Escobar stops at first. Missing a cutoff man isn't an error unless the ball gets away and the runner advances. Which is exactly what happened. Escobar had put on the breaks.

If Soriano fields it cleanly and hits the cutoff man Escobar stops at first. That's routinely called an error, so I'm not sure why they changed it.
  17. It's amazing how quickly this team can erase a big deficit, especially at home.

  19. Walking guys with a 5 run lead in the 9th is neat
  20. I know you're kidding. But I'm actually glad. It goes both ways He's warmed up already, whats another 12 or so pitches? I think appearances is just as important as total innings when looking at a relievers workload. Using him for 1 out kind of pisses me off. If he's only going to be used for one guy, then don't use him at all. Basically they failed to give Marmol a day off and didn't even really benefit from using him. ??? There were 2 on in a 2 run game. They definitely benefited from it. Ok I worded that poorly. They benefited from it, but not greatly. They got one out. The odds are in favor of them getting that out no matter what reliever was brought in.

  22. That Derosa RBI may end up costing this game. Marmol probably would have been in the game for the 8th if it was only a 2 run game.
