  1. This goes double for online poker. The US is the only country that places restrictions on it, and the restrictions basically kill it in this country. Swing and a miss. The US restrictions have completely killed it (banhammered) and it is pretty regulated through most of Europe. But yeah, it's really stupid. Legalize, set standard practices, regulate it and tax it. No. It has not been completely killed. There are still several reputable sites that accept US players. Ask me if I'll tell you what they are. The US first started putting sanctions on online payment processors, which drove away the big fish who realized that they could still keep a ton of traffic if they disallowed players from the US. That about cut US options in half, and then Absolute and Full Tilt starting doing shady things and drawing attention to themselves and they were banhammered. There is still one very big room that accepts US players, but they're getting kind of scary, too. How the [expletive] is it regulated in Europe? They have access to all the payment processors, and no sites that I know of say "no" to Europeans and "yes" to Canadians. Or Chinese. Or whatever. I suspect you're talking about of your ass here.

  3. Yeah, the presence of hard drugs at a party is not the issue here. What the [expletive] was he doing playing ILLEGAL POKER?!
  4. Was this before or after LaRussa said they were throwing at him and Braun should've ducked? During. It's all there.
  5. I'm really interested to learn what Szczur did to Keith Law
  6. There was also the 1900 or so PA he had in the minors to that point where he wasn't good either. Looks relatively consistent to his 2010 performance to me. But anyway, I'm not even sure what you're arguing, aside from trying to make sure every negative aspect of this discussion is highlighted. No one thinks Colvin should have gotten more PT until now. No one thinks Colvin should be riding the bench right now. No one should think that 100 PA's of Colvin this year(or even the 500 PA's he's had in his MLB career thus far) are proof of anything conclusive about him as a player. So you give him the opportunity to fill in the blanks about his true talent level(whether that's star, scrub, or somewhere in between) that he hasn't had yet this season. What's the issue here? Yeah, I don't have a problem letting him play out the season if it makes everyone feel better. And I would be interested to see what last year's astronomical hr/fb rate levels out at. But I agree with Mojo; I think we've already seen what he's likely to do...and it's not good.
  7. I still suck at reading Twitter copy-pastes Callis is responding to a tweet by saying the reason we're not hearing about Cubs signings is that they're so much over slot. I know, it just took me a few extra seconds. Thanks though.

  9. Why would Colvin have had to irritate Quade? Maybe Quade just knows he doesn't belong in a starting lineup. I think Len said last night that Colvin hasn't gotten a chance at regular playing time in order to prove himself. This is wrong.
  10. Yeah, it really downplays Robinson's struggles, and betrays ignorance more than anything
  11. No one here, really, but I'm tired of the imagined persecution complex. Bit of a carryover from the political thread.
  12. Is it me, or are white people more persecuted today than ever before? You gotta feel for the young rich white kid with a bright future and otherworldly athletic ability. Jesus Racist Christ.
  13. Don't forget that .500 may be enough to win our woeful division next year
  14. I can keep up with the team and point out their follies without watching them. Best fans in baseball, IMO
  15. If Wood was offended by this request, then he's insane. For all Hendry's faults, I have no doubt in his ability to skillfully inquire as to Kerry's interest in playing for a title this year. There's no way such a request would piss him off. Not only should it not piss him off to be offered a chance to play for a title, but what do the Cubs have to lose if they did piss him off? Access to a fairly decent reliever? A bro 4 life GR's right, I'm sure Hendry handled this with tact. I'm just really, really impressed that he gave us such a discount and really like the idea of him in the organization well after his playing days are over. To trade him mid-season simply because his contract was so team-friendly would be pretty cold.
  16. Sexy, but there's no way Fielder should bat behind Aramis. I like this lineup, too... vs righties: Jackson Castro Pujols Aramis Soto Colvin Byrd Flaherty vs Lefties: Castro Baker Pujols Aramis Soriano Soto Byrd Jackson / Colvin / RH 5th OF Soriano 6th? That outfield has the potential to worse than 05's dismal unit. Our infield would have to carry the team, but midseason pickups would be necessary to get us anywhere. Let's just focus on Fielder/Wilson and worry about serious contention after that. We'd have one of the best infields in baseball with that scenario. Just like 05.
  17. And he also had this to say. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/6782205-417/gm-jim-hendry-doesnt-believe-cubs-need-to-go-boom-to-improve.html In any other division - 5th place is last. Jimbo benefits from the fact that we technically aren't in last place. So yeah, there better be a rebuilding effort. WHAT THE [expletive] ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT Haha, there you are
  18. Yeah moving one or the other would be ideal. Marshall in my opinion would have been the best to move because of the emergence of Russell. The rangers gave up two top guys for Mike Adams. Wieland the further along of the two is less regarded but is having a breakout year and would have been a great pick up for the cubs. The cubs probably could have gotten him and a lesser guy. The padres in return got wieland and Erlin who is considered a top 35 prospect in all of baseball. Marshal <> Mike Adams in any way. Stop with this.
  19. I honestly hope we didn't piss him off by suggesting a trade after the discount he gave us. This guy seems to genuinely love our hapless organization. Can we not [expletive] with him, please?
