  1. Ceiling (you can teach delivery, movement, and command but not a fastball that touches 97 mph) and the fact that our system thins out so quickly after Pie, Veal, and EPatt. :( It's pretty sad when two of your draft picks (a 1st and 5th rounder) easily make your top 10 prospects list. Not just his great FB, but the way he picked up the finer points of throwing a changeup and seeing it improve so quickly shows a lot, imo. And I have the 1st, 5th and 11th rounders in my top-10 list.
  2. I'd be a happy man if I never had to see Joakim Noah celebrate again.

  6. Oof, Cal center DeVon Hardin is out for 2-3 months with a broken foot, should be a crushing blow to the Golden Bears. He and Ayinde Ubaka would have been as formidable as Leon Powe and Ubaka last season.
  7. Dixon is garbage too. Yeesh.
  8. Good to see Oregon showed up. Brady Leaf is garbage. Good to see Dixon in.
  9. Jon would remind us that Loretta went to Northwestern at every opportunity. No thanks.
  10. Northwestern plays games on Thursday morning? Wow. Couple nice victories for the Pac-10 yesterday: Arizona beat Memphis 79-71 and Washington beat LSU 88-72 - Hawes and Brockman look freaking unstoppable inside for U-Dub.

  15. Comedy Central should cancel Reno 911 instead.
  16. I can understand the frustration with Marquis, but to say Prior, Miller, and Guzman are better than he is "without a doubt" and that the Cubs have 7-8 guys who can match his performance is certainly questionable. Prior, Miller, Guzman, and the other young pitchers have a lot of question marks next to their names. I can see saying that about Prior and Miller, both are major league pitchers, and if healthy could out perform Marquis. But Guzman and Marshall are unproven on the ML level, so we have no way of knowing if they can outperform Marquis, let alone handle the work-load of a full season. Marshall pitched better than Marquis last season.
  17. I gotta agree, Sound Bite Airhead has a much better ring to it than Joe Buck.
  18. Is this because all Japanese pitchers are alike? Just like all white pitchers? Oh c'mon Tim, you know that isn't what he meant. What he meant (I assume) is that he's somewhat of a novelty because of his unorthodox pitching. Nomo had the crazy windup, and Mats has the gyroball. The difference as I see it, is that a rotation is something that can be adjusted to after a while. However, a pitch is something that, while it can be expected and looked for, can still fool you time after time. All hitters know what a curveball is, but it still fools them time after time. So, as far as unorthodoxy goes, Mats' legacy should have the one up on Nomo's. i thought the gyro ball was a myth It is. ---- Matzusaka has much better stuff than Nomo. Daisuke isn't a gimmick pitcher and I think it's an awful comparison.
