  1. He pounded the ball in the second half, and his .060 IsoD is far from a disaster. Did Pie participate in any of the winter leagues? If so, how did he do? In 121 ABs, including yesterday's game: .223/.271/.281/.552, 1 HBP, 7 BB, 23 K, 1 HR, 4 2B, 5/5 SB
  2. Disagree. Lilly was decidedly mediocre. And the Cubs had two LH SP last year too - I'd rather they be quality pitchers than pitchers who can throw lefty. Shouldn't mediocre in a DH league and a stacked divsion translate into at worst above average in the offensively challenged nonDH NL? He still is a flyball pitcher who already surrenders a lot of HRs and walks, I'm not a big fan of that combo. And, for a guy who's supposed to be an innings-eater, he's never thrown 200 IP.
  3. The Cubs have a daily press conference after 5 PM? I think that is pretty standard for the winter meetings week. What do they discuss on the slow news days like the past few? Hendry is probably going to be tight-lipped too.

  5. That is (was?) a pretty popular slogan on t-shirts for Giants fans.
  6. Word! Indeed. Guzman'a 10 starts (coming off of injury at age 24) and Marmol's 13 starts (at age 23) clearly spell out how they will perform next year. Much more so then Meche's and Lilly's pathetic careers. Man, if Gooz and Marmol hadn't started last year, the Cubs would have been saved.
  7. No, he hasn't. He also hasn't pitched anywhere near as much as Hill did in the high minors - and, of course, had much worse control. Rich Hill Carlos Marmol
  8. They can't trade Pelfrey until January 2007, since they only signed him earlier this year. So, this particular deal might not happen for another month at the very earliest. PTBNL.
  9. Unless you're referring to Zito, you can't make that statement, knowing that Schmidt wanted to stay on the West Coast. We weren't even mentioned in the 3 finalists for Schmidt. The Cardinals were. Last I checked, they weren't on the west coast. Exactly.
  10. I believe the Dodger rumors are based on after signing Schmidt (trading Penny).
  11. Penny = No Lofton, just a heads up to the folks who want to see Lofton signed.
  12. All I'm saying is, some players, who really love where they play and want to stick around, are willing to act on more than just financial interest. Latest example of this would probably be Chris Carpenter. Drew's always moving from team to team for a guy with top-flight skills. Maybe it means nothing, maybe it does. Not shocking he didn't like where he played - some in the Dodgers organization including Coletti didn't like him.
  13. That's really not surprising, seeing as Soriano (Type A) also nets the Nationals a second round pick while Pierre (Type B) doesn't net the Cubs a second rounder.
  14. Wow, Wazzou upset Gonzaga!!! Go Pac-10!
  15. And the Contra Costa Times better be wrong, because 5 years/$55 million for Ted Lilly is hideous, no matter what the market looks like. You should be able to get Jason Schmidt for around as many dollars for one few year.
  16. we keep hearing it, but just never see any evidence of it. I know he's coming back from injury, but that has to be considered in projecting him. I know he was jerked around last year, but he still got 25 starts and was horrendous in the bigs and mediocre at AAA. Indeed, and that's considered when I said he rates Gooz too low. His ceiling is higher than any rookie or minor leaguer from last year, he was returning from 2.5 seasons on the shelf and showed glimpses of what gives him such a high ceiling during his struggles last season.
  17. Yeesh, UCLA was actually down 10 in the first half but pulled away for a 78-54 win over Cal State Fullerton. Arron Afflalo had 20 points and Lorenzo Mata grabbed a career-high 16 boards, but Darren Collison had his first subpar game of the season. Up next: #6 Texas A&M (who lost their first game of the year today to LSU) at Pauley on Saturday.
  18. Geovany Soto (Arecibo): 12/53, .226/.263/.358/.621, 3 BB, 12 K, 7 2B Miguel Negrón (Caguas): 25/57, .439/.484/.649/1.138, 5 BB, 9 K, 6 2B, 2 HR, 5/6 SB Federico Báez (Manati): 7.1 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 1 K/1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 HR, 2.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 2 S

  20. Tigres beat the Caribes 6-2, box: RP T. Atlee 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 K/0 BB Leones win 6-5, box: C H. Blanco 3/5, 2B (5), K (20), BB (13), RBI - game winning sac fly Overall: Thomas Atlee (Caribes): 19 IP, 9 R, 8 ER, 20 H, 11 K/11 BB, 3.79 ERA, 1.63 WHIP Henry Blanco (Leones): 28/127, .220/.298/.307/.605, 1 HBP, 13 BB, 20 K, 2 HR, 5 2B, 1/2 SB ...
