Some quotes and good video of a few nice defensive plays by Alcántara in this game.
Ehh, it was his first game in left.
Wish they'd just play him more in the infield and get him the reps he needs there because I don't think he can cut it in the outfield.
I know we talked about this elsewhere but I don't think people realize how much of a unicorn Alcántara is and how much rawer and longer he'll take to develop than your normal top prospect, given his size. I'm not saying he's going to have an Aaron Judge-like career but his 90th+ percentile outcome is Judge-ian and look at how slowly Judge developed (and he was drafted after his junior year of college).
10/12 box score:
CF J. Triantos 2/4, 2 R, 2 RBI, K, 3B (1), HR (2)
RF C. Franklin 0/1, E (3, throw) - left game for PH in the top of the 5th
RP C. Kachmar 2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 2-0 GO-FO
Triantos had 16 errors in 83 games during the regular season. He has 3 so far in 5 games in the AFL (that would work out to 50 in 83 games). I imagine he won't keep committing this many errors in the AFL.
That said, he's clearly struggling more at 2B than 3B (though he's newer to the position).
10/9 box score:
RF K. Alcántara 0/4, K
RP Jo. Romero 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 2-0 GO-FO
The whole Solar Sox team managed only 2 hits (both singles) last night.
