It's a scenario that works in theory. But well past the point of practicality, even if the offense turns it around the next 7 games. An interesting scenario is this- Trestman gets canned within the next two weeks and Kromer takes over as interim HC and the offense looks better in the last 5 weeks and Kromer does well with the locker room. Do you give Kromer the chance full time with his own DC hire (Rex if you like). Probably. I think the problem with Cutler is not the turnovers that people understandably freak out about, but the fact that he isn't making plays. He's been "fine", but this team is so bad they need him to be super beast to win. To me it just seems like he used to have a to of picks on really risky throws that I could live with because they had high reward. Nobody should be surprised by this. Annoyed? I guess. But surprised? No. Yep. Few NFL teams make changes midseason (this isn't the hitting coach on a disappointing baseball team) and the Bears (at least to me) seem to be even more conservative than most franchises. I don't get the idea that few teams make changes midseason. Is there some sort of list proving this to be the case? Seems to me at least one or two teams fire their head coach during the season every year, and that doesn't even take into account coordinator or position coach changes. I think the article I read last night said 22 in the past 15 years or something. Almost all of these happen very early in like after a 0-4 start or very late with the interim getting 3-4 games. He's almost certainly going to be our best option for at least two more years after this one. Which is why if this new mediocrity is permanent, we are so probably screwed. You can win with current Jay Cutler as your QB, but you need to be really good everywhere else, and we're nowhere close to that. Is his mediocrity permanent or the last three weeks? If the last three weeks are permanent, well yea [expletive]. I'm still projecting him as higher than that though, even though he'll almost certainly have some games like it. Yeah, it's really looking more and more like a missed opportunity. He'll still be likely our best option for a couple years. Maybe if you don't love anyone at the top of this draft you can trade down and get some additional depth which allows you to get a developmental QB. I don't even care about the possible top three pick I just want to get to 7 or 8 losses sooner so we can just kick guys like Briggs to the curb and go all youth movement. It's the lack of a competent QB on the other team. Any competent QB can hang 40 on these guys. The exception to that was Matt Ryan, who probably would have done the same if all his receivers weren't dropping passes. Miami had an average QB, but they also had an elite defense. Minnesota has a crappy QB situation and while their defense isn't bad, they aren't as good as Miami. Manuel looked pretty good too though. Still a high risk they give up many scores, though if they could manage to actually all play the same coverage every play maybe they hold them to 21 and we lose 21-20. I sure do. Long is the only longterm option in place and probably the only guy on the line now that I'd like to see on the line in 2016. Bushrod helped stabilize things but I think he was vastly overpaid and probably only a short-term guy. They need at least one tackle and one interior linemen. Outside of Long everybody is either bad, old or bad and old. I agree. The OL as a unit has been noticeably worse, at least from what I've seen. It obviously hasn't been deep enough with Ola not a sufficient 6th guy (although at least on the interior DLP is so that's frustrating). And most of the starting 5 weakness is from one spot. Bushrod, Long, Slausson, and even Garza have played well enough but an OL is unfortunately only as good as their weakest guy and I guess they just went away from protecting Mills as much as they did last year. And I wish they would have stuck with him on the inside because as a interior mauler he could maybe salvageable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That may be what they are stuck doing, but think about what you are advocating with those first two picks. Two more picks allotted to the defense after that side got the top three this year and two of the top three the year before. The Bears have used one top 3 round draft pick on an offensive skill position player in the past 5 drafts and that is going to come back and bite them eventually. They have a declining Marshall, a nice but limited Jeffery, a consistent but unspectacular Forte, garbage at tight end and a declining Cutler. There is zero explosiveness on the offensive side of the ball. No big threats. The offense is basically limited to bullying their way down the field with big receivers and no hope of the homerun. That takes time and allows a defense to adjust and take chances that will not be exploited, and that leads to turnovers. Yea it's a concern. As of about a week ago I wanted a RT and BDPA in rd one and two. So I could still go that route. Depending on what a FA OL looks like it could be just as good as a pick. I think it's possible to get two years out of any three of Bushrod, Slauson, and DLP. Getting all three to produce for two years is unlikely but also is needing all three or even two spots in 2016. I have no idea what they have in Leno, but hopefully they get another mid round development type this draft. Even if say Bushrod is gone from 2016 they can still be in a position to grow from within on the OL. It's an uphill battle but not unlike what most teams face. It's a constant race against attrition. I do think we're about 2 years away from being in the position of sweet Comp picks and resigning our own guys instead of looking in FA, but there's no "unwinding" as Kyle implies. Just more adding. Mid round speed WR, FA OG/OT, resign DLP, two starting FA DBs (pretty good class), mid tier June 1 LB and best two defensive players in round one and two. If one of those two isn't a pass rusher that may be another June 1 need. New coaching staff. On the player front that's no more active than we've had to be the past several years. I don't see the same pessimism as you Kyle. We aren't looking for wide scale changes from a talent perspective, there's still a good base. While players can take some of the blame for coverage gaffs, it's largely a coaching issue to remedy. There are some needs but mainly complimentary on O. I don't see the need for two new OL. On defense one or two impact guys in the front seven can transform it. While it is a lot to do, I don't see us at a crossroads where we have to reboot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Good points regarding things being different under George. I still think a change with the assistants at this point comes from Trestman. If Emery feels the need to go over his head to make the change at DC now he might as well clean out Trrestman too. So I think it would be an all or nothing prop at this point. Eh it was a little annoying but Jay actually did have a bad game and I don't necessarily expect Miller to give a breakdown on D. The really hilarious part was when Jiggets asked what an average QB gives up in TO (after a funny rounding job by Miller) and Miller subsequently brings up Brees, then Brady and Manning (he had previously mentioned Rodgers obviously). Lol

History of turnover would indicate a conservative approach that values consistency and not changing hands.
