Gase and Patricia declared safe too. Dallas and Jacksonville are the two big ones that remain to be seen. And you could always get a post season firing from a underperforming team, though I'm not sure how likely that any of those exist. Pretty much all rising teams with newer coaches or very established safe coaches (Sea, NE, NO). Only PHI is the middle ground, but I doubt Pederson is at risk anymore. Also, only one GM firing so far, Allen in WAS. This could shape up to be one of the tamer black Mondays/offseasons. Which makes me think next year could be absolute madness.

I feel like it's said every year, but who in their right mind wants to go there? McCarthy for instance, sounds like he has interest from Carolina. That's an easy choice 10 times out of 10. Even if you don't have a competing offer though, I'd be tempted to just wait another year on the market unless I was a Vic Fangio type who was clearly running out of time. McDaniels is the name I've seen float around. Unless he's just set on waiting out Bellicheck, maybe that's a good option for him, as hell probably struggle to get looks going forward around the league.

Also, not sure that the results yesterday affected this, but 2020 opponents officially set: This schedule seems just about as tough as 2019. Houston about as tough as KC. The rest of the AFC South a bit better than the West. Still have NO and trade the NFC East for the South. Again, a bit better. Rams and Giants repeat. Odd that the 3 conference repeats are also the same H/A.

Yea Shurmur would probably fit that best case retread scenario. It sounds like Patricia is safe if Detroit, but if he for some reason was canned Darrell Bevell could become available too. Has ties to Childress.

The best hope is probably a retread candidate. Someone who has been a HC or play calling OC a few times, but is getting looked over in favor of up and comers. Like Martz was. Or someone who is such an unknown he's not even and up and comer, and they just totally luck out, thus they'll get hired away in two years.

Beyond the light bulb suddenly going on for Mitch in season 3 of Nagy' offense what's the solution? Cry while you wait for 2020 to end. It's a garbage-time season, a lost cause that you have to play out. Your choices are "fix QB and let the rest of the roster suck" or "fix the rest of the roster and run it back with Trubisky." You aren't winning a Super Bowl with either choice, so either is fine with me as long as they stick to short-term deals and don't lock themselves into a QB long-term. Yup the window was always narrowly planned around 2018-20 unless Mitch propelled into stardom. Ride it out.

The thing that makes the most sense in bringing in Mariotta is the presence of Helfrich, but the idea of bringing back all of the offensive coaches is kind of crazy. Helfrich was a failed college head coach when he took the job. And there's reason to believe he's not up to the task. I think they need to bring in somebody with NFL coaching pedigree. They should probably replace Helfrich and once they do that, the idea of bringing in Mariotta makes even less sense. The part of Mariota that makes sense is that your scheme would be very QB agnostic. Whether Trubisky or Mariota, you're covering roughly the same strengths and weaknesses. Personally I just want them to go as cheaply and high upside at the QB spot. A draft pick and a youngish UFA with decent physical tools, even if unproven. Throw cap resources elsewhere and double down on the plan, hoping for some bounce backs.

Pick watch. Bears and Oakland are both 7-8 and would occupy 2 of the draft slots between 14-18, so picks 46-50 in Rd 2. 3 teams that are a game above and 3 a game below. So worst/best case is somewhere between 43 and 53.

Man I think his short throws are consistently some of his worst throws. Yes, guys can usually catch them, but he never leads them, so they're rarely in a spot to advance the ball. His mid/deep range throws are similarly inaccurate, but there's just more margin for error as far as advancing the ball at that spot if the field. He does get those unexplainable deep ones thrown 10 feet high too, yea, but I feel like their rate of occurrence is actually less than they feel.

Also my perpetual fear that the Bears are always a mere season away from featuring two retreads, a UDFA from Lower East North Arkansas Tech, and a cardboard cutout of Ricky Proehl as their WR corps.

This is based on little more than intuition, but I feel like WRs with Robinsons profile get a pass until at least 29 for that.

Theres nothing wrong with the double FS, a SS would be a run stuffer/TE cover guy anyway. Considering the D is ranked #6 against the run, they aren't missing the SS spot. The run D has suffered more form missing Hicks IMO (and really, so have the INT numbers). I'd like to see what Ha-Ha would resign for. They need someone besides Mack and Hicks on the D line. the rest is all O-line, back up RB, TE, and QB1A. I mean the traditional SS is near dead. Any S today would be a FS 20 years ago, and any SS from 20 years ago is at best a hybrid player if not a LB (or just unemployed). I'd be fine with Ha Ha, but that spot should definitely be a cost saving spot on the roster either way. To Kyle's plan, I'd also say extend Robinson. You can probably knock off another 5M of cap at least with a new long term extension with new guarantees.

It would basically require 1. Floyd really liking it here, 2. Pace saying he will be cut otherwise and 3. Floyd still really liking it here after that ultimatum. Obviously he hasn't hit his potential as a pass rusher, but in the 7-9M per/year range, he'd probably be a good value. That's my thought as well. He's got 13.2 guaranteed if the Bears keep him. But if he likes it here, he could probably be persuaded to take a 4 year deal worth like 30-35Mil with 18-20Mil in guarantees. Increases his guarantees, but also gives the Bears some needed cap space. The issue here is there's next to nothing on the FA market and a draft pick (which would be in the mid 2nd round area at best, mind you) isn't likely to make teams stop triple teaming Mack. So, they might have to bite the bullet on Floyd and look to trade or get a potential comp pick for him after 2020 A healthy Hicks would in theory help with the pass rush. But I could also be convinced to outright dump Floyd and throw a back loaded deal at Clowney. Has multiple seasons better than Floyd and, fun fact, is younger than Floyd. But I'd probably take a reasonably extended Floyd over that option. A trade is an interesting thought. I think on his deal he tops out at a mid third, but more realistically a day 3 pick.
