I thought I had read that those types of stem cell treatments (just shooting these guys up with stem cells like, I think, Colon did) were quackery. Is there something that has changed? Is this something different? It's going to be insane if/when they can grow people replacement organs and eliminate the need for transplant lists and anti-rejection meds and all that. From what Inunderstand, and I think we both know how little that is, there's [expletive] doctors out there but otherwise it is the direction athletes are going for injuries. Kobe and Colon are the most famous athlete cases IIRC, but it's becoming more and more common for guys to shoot for the alternative in hopes of avoiding the knife. It is not yet a fully refined process, but the only way for that to happen is for players to keep giving it a shot - worst case is they get the TJ. I thought there was talk that, with these treatments being largely untested long term, the stem cells could cause cell multiplication and, thus, tumors.
