  1. EPCub sounds like one of those guys who would write in to Paul Sullivan's Q&A
  2. Isn't this normal for an eastern time zone game? I still manage to forget almost every day that we've got clods here who put up game threads without "CST" in the damn title. For shame, JERSEY cubs fan; after yesterday's bizarre start time, I thought tonight was 6:10 PM EST again. tonight is at 6:10 EST it's also 6:10 CDT
  3. honestly if these two are taking real steps to being elite offensive players (not to mention how immensely valuable javy becomes given his defense too), i can't really comprehend what this offense is going to look like through the summer months. (and then imagine adding bryce harper to that). is it even possible to add a competent heyward on top of that? holy crap.
  4. [tweet] [/tweet] the sabr wiz has spoken
  5. how was schwarber's second dong if his first one was a 10?
  6. as nice as it would be for heyward to be fixed, the idea that javy could be a superstar on the bryzzo plane is far far more fun for me to fantasize about
  7. KB getting the night off Soon we'll find out if the rest of these guys will or not [tweet] [/tweet]
  8. The Bulls were way too watchable this year for everyone's tastes, even when they were losing (until the end when they really got their shut-down on). Like, that was the storyline all year... "I can't believe how watchable this team that was supposed to be awful is!" Anyway, I think they'll be relevant next year and fun to watch. Lauri is really horsefeathering good and was really balling out toward the end. Without looking too hard at what's out there free agent wise, they'll probably make some improvements there + what should be at least a contributing rookie given their draft slot (if they don't luck into something better than that). Then there's Dunn, Portis, and whatever Lavine is. I wish they'd lost more of those games that really swung their draft position, but either way I feel pretty decent about where they are going forward.
  9. The best current example is Mike Trout, no? i would say mookie betts is closer but neither has quite the SB totals and both have more power (trout much moreso)
  10. yes and the one that damn near hit (if it didn't) the camera shed in CF in game 2 when lofton acted animatedly amazed on the bases
  11. he did seem to stand wayyy off the plate compared to before but maybe it was just my imagination it seemed like he lost his oppo stroke after that
  12. yeah i agree. maybe it was just a coincidence. there was actually a piece on fangraphs that looked at that, the cork incident, and just plain old getting old as possible turning points that triggered his decline. but i know he was his usual self for the 3-4 weeks of 2003 before that happened.
  13. i was thinking back and remembering that yesterday felt like a really similar day (in terms of day of the week/time of year/etc) to the day sammy got hit in the head and torres shattered his helmet. turns out it was 15 years ago almost to the day. 4/20/03. and yeah, was a sunday. http://reds.enquirer.com/2003/04/21/sosa_zoom.jpg
  14. ya it looks like the video was posted by a trump fan account
  15. Jim Edmonds? it always felt like edmonds did it on purpose (maybe my cubs bias showing) while that really seemed like it pushed almora to the breaking point. like nuts and bolts were flying off him like a fast and the furious car. He definitely blew the welds on his intake. Granny shiftin, not double clutching like he should
  16. So javys just gonna be like second base Mike trout huh?
  17. damn i'd forgotten 2014 javy was a little pudgier i think it was 2015 he showed up at camp all BSOL and has been more or less like that ever since
  18. I know I've been pro-Javy on everything. I don't remember any long debates on his defense. I DO remember you replaced him in your signature last year with Happ, and cited Javy defenders as having turned you against him. not a debate ON his defense...i was speaking IN his defense. after 2014 the vast majority of people here basically thought he was trash and a bust (the thread "javysucksbndpublicaccess" or whatever the hell it was called was very popular). my position was he was way too talented to give up on bc of 2 months of swinging and missing at everythign and what you're referring to is me joking that people had turned so far in the opposite direction that it was making me look anti-javy. the strongest position against him i had was that i thought he needed to be platooned (and was expendable given his likely to be inflated trade value). i'll be ecstatic if he proves me wrong in that regard bc i always thought he had that upside.
  19. i didn't even vote for that one that said, happ has the same career fWAR as almora in about 2/3 the amount of games so i wouldn't go calling that one quite yet
  20. i remember feeling like i was on a one man crusade in his defense in the 2014-15 offseason but i'm sure i wasn't the only one on his side
  21. 13% of us, not bad
  22. This is a really good thread...too many clips for me to post them here though so just click into the tweet [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet]
  23. man i was so horsefeathering excited that night then iirc he hit 2 more in his second game (maybe 3rd?)
