Excellent look at the Cubs rotation, with particular focus on Q, Hendricks, and Darvish: https://theathletic.com/410692/2018/06/28/sarris-what-lies-ahead-for-the-cubs-rotation/ The cliffs notes for non-subscribers: - The Cubs are near the top of the list of rotations with the most projected progression to the mean in the second half. - Hendricks' problem has been righties hitting home runs with his fastball, mostly because more of them have been over the heart of the plate - Q hasn't had his typical command, which is probably good news as command is one of those traits that is stickiest year to year - Darvish also has had command struggles, particularly with his breaking stuff, which isn't great with as many breaking pitches he throws. Also some concern about his return from injury.

2B has a better angle and should call off the 1B if he can easily get there, he just overran it by 5 yards. Not sure if that was wind, misreading the spin(presumably a lefty hit it to come back towards the field?), or just pure overexuberance. -

You need someone who is at a divisional opponent and is a strong power hitter, and then is there for many years. Even if you hit a HR once every 3 games at Coors, it's still gonna take you 9 years of that pace to get to 27, and not many people stay in one place that long. -

Sounds like when it came time to make a frame order, someone had a little trouble with their friends at Gold Coast Bank. Maybe instead of hiring people to stuff frames from Craigslist he should've employed people from the business friendly village of New Lenox. He probably just decided to not bother with the 5th of every 9 orders and yours was the unlucky one.

I did not realize that several Swiss players were Albanian, and that making Albanian celebration signs after they scored against Serbia was signalling to their comrades, many of whom are in Switzerland to...escape Serbian genocide. That's some kind of gratifying win to beat that country in a comeback.

The slippery slope argument is a non-starter because no one is as bad at anything in baseball as pitchers are as hitters. Even playing late-career David Ortiz in center field isn't as bad relative to league average as pitchers are at the plate*. My personal preference is for NL baseball because I'm willing to sacrifice ~2 PA per team to get the increased strategy in the later innings, but I'd rather have both leagues be the same(even if they both have the DH) than the split that we have now. *This might be an exaggeration but I'm too busy/lazy to look it up. -

The big benefit from the 8 team divisions in the proposed schedule is that it takes a big bite out of travel costs. You could do eight 4 team divisions and weight the schedule with games from your division and a sister division for the same result, and the main benefit is about a playoff structure that is less desired(8 teams) or can also be replicated with 4 divisions. Unless we're switching to buses I think everybody touting He travel cost thing is making stuff up. You are still getting in a plane every 3-9 days. You are still staying in expensive hotels. I admittedly haven't done the math, but considering that thought seems to be coming from the direction of MLB/owners, who have the most to lose if that's wrong, and that the difference is really only considered in the context of making up the difference in 3 home games of revenue, I believe it.
