Agreed, trading Bryant is the conclusion that dim-witted reporters draw to generalized 'no one is untouchable' and 'there's gonna be big changes' statements, and given the time of year means Theo isn't going to say 'no you idiots' about any move, plus the dim-witted reporter echo chamber it repeats itself into a Serious Trade Rumor .

Counterpoint: Atlanta hosting again would be just as boring so let's have the Sounders play a home final for once. What a performance that was, I was honestly hoping that they wouldn't get smoked like their other trip to LAFC, and they basically controlled the game. A little fortunate to convert their chances, but that's why Ruidiaz and Lodeiro get paid big bucks.

You're better than me at this, but I immediately tune out almost every time someone brings up the new ball/old ball thing in terms of roster design. Everyone plays with the same ball. It's like arguing what would happen if they made it 4 outs per inning instead of 3. Good players will remain good players. I do think there's value in thinking about who might be helped/hurt by changes, after all players don't all hit the ball the same. In this case we're just kinda aimlessly assuming Castellanos will be worse off because.....? Anecdotally or numerically I can't see anything that makes me think he would translate much differently in either direction.

IMO, it's a lot easier to find someone to be a lefty mashing 1B/LF than it is to be a competent swingman. With that in mind, trading Myers for Chatwood puts you in a hole because you need to fill a more difficult role and you haven't gained anything from a LT payroll perspective. If the thing you get with Myers is worthwhile that can be worth it, but I'm skeptical that type of deal could come to fruition.

It is probably revealing about me that I'm just as excited that I get to see Dest play for the US as I am that it's one less position for there to be endless shrieking about player selection. We'd hit the point where folks were getting angry that Fabian Johnson wasn't getting called in for LB, the same Fabian Johnson who is constantly(and recently) injured, openly hated playing LB, and will be almost 35 when the World Cup starts.

I’m not willing to give Lampard credit for playing his best winger(especially when his coaching chops are finishing 6th in the championship and being willing to manage transfer banned Chelsea), but he clearly is in Pulisic’s corner now which is what matters.

Pulisic now in the EPL's Top 5 of non-penalty G+A/90, even if you give him no production in the few minutes he's short of the qualifying bar.

Considering that the Cubs are extremely unlikely to re-sign him in 2 years, I would much rather get something for him now before he gets closer to Free Agency. He is set to make close to $20M in arbitration, so there's that too. Get some assets in return and spend the $20M elsewhere. Bryant trades that: Make the Cubs better in the short term: almost literally impossible Make the Cubs better in the long term but worse in the short term: incredibly stupid given the roster, functionally punts the season Make the Cubs better in the long term and comparable in the short term: basically impossible given how his salary and team control limit suitors/willingness to give a mega package

My theory is that Ross is going to be a good thing, I'm optimistic he'll be able to help facilitate better player development and reverse the regression we've seen the last few years. I think other candidates could do that too(I'm not convinced he's clearly the best option), but Ross isn't just a guy. I also think that he's going to be less articulate to the media than Maddon, and as a result when he inevitably makes a few 50/50 or 40/60 decisions that fans don't like(every fanbase thinks their manager is an idiot at managing a bullpen), they/we are going to hate him wayyy quicker than it took to hate Maddon. -
The trade proposals are going to be obviously bad, you don't have to respond to them.

I think it’s generally accepted they were juiced for all of 2018 and 2019, they possibly were here for all of 2017 and if they weren’t they came in some time during the year. I'm going from hazy memory and selective interpreting the data, but my thinking is that launch angle focus is responsible for a general lift in HR rate, and the juiced ball added some on top of that in 2017 and 2019 in particular.
