  1. Part one of the article is up. Thanks to everyone who participated, but special thanks to O_O for organizing and then collating and editing everyone's contributions!
  2. is online at 312 Sports
  3. I've been granted a preview of an NPR interview with Ricketts and there's some pretty good stuff there. Here's the presser:
  4. I'll be sitting down with Bruce sometime next week (or so) to talk to him about the Cubs. Hopefully by the time we sit down, the Cubs will have a new owner in place. Feel free to suggest any questions you might have that you'd like me to ask Bruce about. Thanks!
  5. Our Dallas area based contributor Adam Meggs gives Cubs fans his insight on Rudy Jamarillo. Adam also touches on other subjects such as Bobby Valentine's attempt to return to the big leagues here in the states. I'll be honest - I just posted it, so I haven't had a chance to listen yet (and won't until tonight). After posting it here, I hope he did a good job, though. :D
  6. I've entered NSBB into a ticket giveaway contest by CTC sports where you have the opportunity to win free tickets to the sporting event of your choice. Here's a link to the contest rules. By voting in the contest, you have a chance to win two tickets yourself. If NSBB wins any tickets, I'll give them to the member who drives the most votes to the contest. In the great style of Chicago voting - vote early, vote often and bring your "friends"!
  7. The 312 Sports interview with Marcus Liberty of the 1989 Flying Illini is up. Marcus is pretty outspoken in the interview talking about everything from growing up in the Chicago Public Leagues to talking about how Lou got too conservative in the Final Four versus Michigan. linky
  8. I'm very happy to announce the launch of 312sports.com this coming Friday, October 16th! 312 Sports will be launching with live coverage of Midnight Madness at the University of Illinois. We will be on the floor at Assembly Hall for first hand reaction and interviews. We'll also be joined by one of the members of the 1989 Flying Illini team that played for the national championship. 312 Sports will be focusing on all sports across the Chicago area - pro, college and even high school. I'm very excited about what we'll be able to bring to the table with the new site. In addition to the message boards, I've been working with Chuck Bryan to get an all-star cast lined up for blogs and podcasts on all the sports across the city and state. We already have press credentials for UofI and we are working on them for other university and pro teams. The coverage of the Midnight Madness event is a small sample of what we will be trying to line up for the site over time. Join us for the event and the official launch of the website!
  9. Nats, Cubs farmhands penalized for PEDs King, Contreras given 50-game suspensions fan comments (1)print this pagee-mail this pagepost on facebook By Alden Gonzalez / MLB.com 10/02/09 6:33 PM ET Two Minor League players, third baseman Stephen King of the Nationals organization and catcher Wilson Contreras from the Cubs farm system, received 50-game suspensions Friday after testing positive for performance-enhancing substances in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. King tested positive for Ritalinic Acid, and Contreras tested positive for metabolites of Nandrolone. Each will serve their suspensions at the start of next season. King, 21, hit a combined .226 with seven home runs and 35 RBIs in 94 games for Class A Hagerstown and Class A Potomac this season. Contreras, 17, his .205 with a homer and six RBIs in 29 games for the Cubs' Dominican Summer League team.
  10. Please note the new addition of the "Add This" button to the framework on the page. If you like NSBB and want to see it grow, please use the button to Digg the site, add it to delicious, and more. If you're using SubSilver2, the button is in the upper right. If you're using ProSilver, the button is in the upper left. If you're using Nexus, the button is right below the CBS banner. Thanks for your help in spreading the word about the best Cubs site on the net!
  11. I knew he had a live arm, but I wasn't expecting the consistent 96-98 mph that he was throwing last night. Has anyone noticed in his other appearances if he's been that high?
  12. I'm treading a thin line here. Projecting points out to the end of the year, I'm at 1987 points for the following team: Pujols Asdrubal Cabrera ARod Hamilton Upton Harden Billingsley Buchholz Cueto Paulino If someone goes off in the last couple weeks to push over the limit, then I'll ditch Harden + Billingsley and keep one of Kemp/Verlander/Carpenter + Pie. One way or another, I've got a lot of very interesting pieces to trade this offseason (I'm looking at you, Shane!).
  13. This thread is a way for me to track what needs to be done on the site after the move. Feel free to post suggestions and I'll keep the front page updated with the current priority list. 14. I'm going to be moving nsbb to a new server today and launching several major upgrades to the site. Most of the downtime should happen starting this evening and heading into the night, but I might get started earlier in the day if I can. Thanks for your understanding!

    Waivers

I hereby pass all my players through conditional waivers.
  16. The Cubs have a long streak of leading the NL in strikeouts. It is in serious jeopardy this season as SF leads the Cubs by 43 at this point of the year. Not that this really matters at all, I just thought it was interesting.
  17. Anyone hear anything about his status? He was projected to be getting back on a mound around now, so I'm curious if there are any updates out there. Between Ben, Doc & Peavy, there's some top of the line pitching available for those willing to pay.

  19. I really don't think it will come to this since nobody else is pulling away, but let's just assume for the moment that the Cubs became sellers at the deadline. What pieces could we sell off and get a good return for? What pieces would we view as "core" and hang onto for next season, when it is assumed we'd be going for it again? I think they would shop Soriano, but not find anyone willing to take on the contract. I'd bet they talk to Lee about waiving the NTC and try to find a willing buyer. They would shop Harden for certain, and probably find a good market if he shows he's healthy over the next month. They'd shop Gregg and find a market that says, "meh" They might talk to some teams about Bradley, as well. All in all, I don't think that the Cubs would be well positioned to be sellers right now. I'd guess they'd really only find a market for Lee (assuming he waives his ntc) and Harden. But I'm not sure they'd get more for Harden now than they would in draft picks at the end of the year.

Can't believe this hasn't been started yet. Of course, I'm just starting it to point out that I've taken the overall points lead. :-))

    Week 7

I put Hamilton on reserve this morning as he's day to day. I believe I can reinsert him as a starter when he's back in the lineup, correct?

    Manny

    Sorry, Raisin. :D
  24. We don't do nearly enough gnashing of our collective teeth about passing on him. I know we have in the past, but his two HR today have once again made me realize how much I prefer him over Colvin.
  25. Just looking for some balance here. How about a healthy Soriano for 150+?
