  1. No. He has either a vesting or a club option for next year for only $7 million. If it doesn't vest, it can be picked up by the Cubs, who IMO would be morons not to take that chance. Someone said earlier that he's also arby eligible or something so he'll be under the Cubs control regardless.
  2. i'm not sure how much more the cubs need. when healthy, the lineup is: LF soriano RF fukudome 1B lee 3B ARam C Soto 2B derosa CF edmonds/johnson ss theriot bench: ward johnson/edmonds fontenot blanco cedeno rotation: zambrano harden lilly dempster marquis bullpen: gaudin lieber wuertz marmol wood howry eyre with the possibility that marshall or hill replaces marquis in the rotation, or one of the bullpen arms if someone is on the DL. i don't see the cubs upgrading at SS right now, and CF has been fine with edmonds and johnson - plus possibly pie as a defensive replacement in september. i guess if some good LOOGY guys hit the market i could see hendry dabbling for one, but aside from that, the cubs don't need much. Pretty much my thoughts exactly, but I was curious to see what others thought. I think we are well set up for a very strong run. Wouldn't mind another mid-rotation starter if it means we can dump Marquis on someone either can we just DFA Marquis and use Marshall/Gaudin/Lieber in his spot? You and I? Sure, you have my blessing. Sweet, I'll give Jim Hendry a call. It worked for Sweet Swingin Billy Williams ;)

  4. You got to love Jim bringing up his obsession with LH bats during the Harden press conference. Mind giving some notes for those of us who don't have ESPNews? He praised Beane's professionalism and honesty in negotiations. Said he asked about Harden maybe 6 weeks ago, but things got a little more serious 10 days ago. He's got a pretty big smile. Gives Murton and Patterson a chance to get more playing time, and thinks Sean can be a really good starter for them right away. He's still in the mode he's always in which is constantly looking to improve the team (this seems to be a standard response for him, so I wouldn't take it as he's about to make another move or anything). Thanks a bunch. I'm not expecting anything really except maybe a bat for the bench. Getting Soriano back will be an addition in itself.
  5. He wore 40 with Oakland, I assume he'd keep it. Yeah, they wouldn't let you use that number, so maybe. What number does Larry go to then? Oh yeah, Larry. Hmm.

  7. I'm assuming there are doctors involved and physicals and whatnot, right? He might get hurt eventually, but I don't think he's coming over as injured currently. From earlier in the thread: Good. I have a great feeling about this. I'm so pumped up.

  9. Question: Is Harden an FA after this year or what's the deal with him?
  10. Wowowowowowowowow. I can't believe it. My friend sent it to me from MLBTR so I wasnt sure if it was true, but here it is. Unbelievable. Guys like Murton and Patterson are fine but they are easily replaceable. I hate giving up Gallagher but I knew either him or Marshall would be gone, and I was ok as long as we kept one. I don't know much about Donaldson, but we have Soto. Harden is one of the best pitchers in the league when healthy. I'm just asking for half a season out of him. Great job Jimbo, great job.
  11. You wouldn't be able to keep both Edmonds and Johnson. You'd have to either trade or release one of them. Why? Soriano, Fukudome, and Bradley would all need some time off,and Johnson could play the corners while Edmonds backs up in center. You only have 5 bench spots. 1 of those go to the backup catcher. 2 more go to middle infielders. So that only leaves 2 spots left for any corner infielders/outfielders. Ward takes one of those spots, so the other spot can only go to 1 of Edmonds/Johnson. I guess so. Though you could just go with 1 middle infielder since DeRosa would be at 2B all the time and wouldn't be needed in the OF. Either way, as much as I like Bradley, I don't think he's a good fit here, and I'm skeptical about putting Edmonds on the bench as long as hes hitting the crap out of the ball.

  13. This should be an easy series win, if not sweep. Do it Cubs.
  14. I'd hope so because I don't really see anyone being insensitive to his cancer. I also thought it was kind of lame to be like "yea well you wouldn't react this way if you knew I had cancer." I'm really sorry he has cancer, but it doesn't change how I feel about the original post, and it's not like the two are related. I dunno.
