    That's because you don't get invited to conferences. Well, the Big 12 does apparently. Still, you apply for membership. And yes I know it's a technicality, because you don't apply for a conference when you know you won't get accepted. And you don't agree to pursue other opportunities if there aren't at least somewhat serious talks going on with other conferences.
