  1. Rusch got whacked too. I don't think it mattered who came in. Novoa gave up the game winning hit though. If it wasn't him, it would have been someone else. Wuertz was spent in the sirst game, and other than Dempster he's the only one I'd have felt comfortable with. I just don't think getting upset at one reliever is worth it at this point.

  3. I use to believe the same thing until they benched Rush and put Jerome ....Who in. I go on vacation and what happened? Williams is pitching better than Rusch at this point, but that is beside the point.
  4. I'd bet they'd wait until the team comes back to Chicago after the Florida series. I just hope it gets done at all. Who would be interim? Pole or Rothschild? I think Pole would quit and go with him. Rothschild would be my first guess, Speier second. Isn't Grady Little still with the orginization? grady is currently a catching instructor in the minors, i believe. I'd fire Baker, Pole, and Clines. I'd name Little interim manager, and promote Von Joshua to batting coach.

  7. Novoa sucked but it doesn't matter much at this point. Hendry handicapped this team in the offseason, and Dusty has done a bang-up job of killing it off.
  8. Welcome to Cubs baseball. You know they had to start playing the Cubbie way sooner or later. It just took them to the NLCS to do it in 2003 and late September to do it in 2004. At least last year I felt like the injuries really were the aggravating factor in the Cubs overall failure. This year it has just been incompetance, and it happened alot earlier, which is a blessing in disguise, I guess.
  9. If the Cubs don't win the series all will be lost, and the way they look now I can't see that happeneing. Shouldn't the Cubs try to win one of the games before we start talking about the need for a sweep?!?!? The point is that I don't think it matters at this point. The "one game at a time" outlook seems a bit superfluous right now.
  10. Man, I don't even like football that much. I have to wait for college hoops for some relief.

  12. It has its moments. When one of the pitchers is on, when Derrek Lee is hitting well, when Ramirez is hitting well, or something like that tends to at least make things interesting. None of that has been happening much recently. Lee should sit until he's 100%. This thing is in the crapper and there's no use taking any chances. This reminds me of one of those days when so much crap happens to you that you can't seem to concentrate or do anything right. Even the good players aren't playing well. I think this is what the term "tail spin" was coined for.
  13. This whole team has come down with Crapititis. Demoralized and Broken. This may be it, folks.
  14. Dusty knows he's getting fired soon. He is just letting it all hang out. I swear the day I wake up, turn on the computer and see a "Baker Fired" thread on NSBB, I am going to run around my apartment complex hooting and hollaring with joy.
  15. Novoa has a good ERA, but he lets in alot of inherited runners, IIRC. Like Mark Guthrie a few years back.
  16. This team has to be broken. This last week has been totally demoralizing. Dusty and Hendy will try and wax positive, but this ship is on the way down. I just hope the captain goes with.
  17. Only if that 15 game losing streak is the result of Dusty getting the axe. That's the idea. Relatively speaking, this is as health as the Cubs have been all year, and they are playing the worst baseball of the season. If DLee comes back and the Cubs continue to play this horribly, Dusty will have no excuses to fall back on. He will be fired, the chaff will be cut loose, kids will play, and we will be better off next year.
  18. In my 20 years of being a Cubs fan, I have NEVER before wanted the Cubs to lose. Having said that, a good 15 game losing streak may be the best thing - for the 2006 Cubs.
  19. The Braves announcers were saying you'd think the Cubs would at least take a pitch with Smoltz struggling with the pitch count. They noted we were playing into Smoltz's hands by not taking any pitches. If they can see it, how come Dusty and Clines can't? They are cognitively challenged.
  20. This game ended hours ago. Recap: Prior sucked, Ramirez shut us out.
  21. I swear Burnitz has hit about 15 long homers in the past week. Too bad all of them were just foul. :x
  22. Rusch has done a lot for us, but his value is at its' peak, and I don't think he'll keep it up. He can opt out of his contract after this year if he wants, and if he maintains his numbers, he'd be crazy not to.
  23. Burnitz - You're probably right. But the Astros and Pirates did in fact want him in the offseason. Perez - has more value than he did (sad, even after this horrid slump), but wouldn't net much by himself. Hollandsworth - His recent hot streak has added value. You might be surprised what some teams may give for a potent LH bat off the bench. Rusch you are wrong about. Two years in a row he has been above average in his duty as a starter. Combine him with a minor league arm and you can get some value for him. Remmy and Maddux I agree with you about. What you seem to be missing is that you can package these guys with each other or with minor leaguers to increase their value. We aren't going to get Dunn for any of these guys, but you are selling the Cubs trade bait short, on the whole.
