  1. Lou loved his work in last year's postseason though. It all depends on whether Lou thinks he's seen enough. He keeps putting him out there which tells you Lou thinks Monroe is ready to help. In my view, he's still the best option in CF against a LHP. That says far more about the lack of any other credible option than it does about him, of course. I don't care how bad he's been in his limited sample with the Cubs; Jacque Jones should never, ever start against a LHP. Ever. (And for those of you ready to interject Pie into the conversation: v. LHP in the majors - .111/.158/.111 v. LHP at Iowa - .190/.250/.286 He's not a credible option either) It's probably too late to consider DeRosa as the CF v. LHP, but I wouldn't mind that. Cedeno and Theriot could play 2B and SS. Jones has changed his approach against LH'ers this year, it appears to be working too. He's more willing to hit the outside sliders from Lh'ers to LF and not be so pull happy. His numbers have been good vs. them this year and Monroe has been bad all year and worse since coming to the Cubs.
  2. And use Ohman? Ohman doesn't have the stuff or control to be counted on. Wuertz has been more effective vs. LH'ers this year compared to Ohman. If there was a better LH'ed option, I'd have no problem. I don't think it would be wise to switch Marshall's routine to reliever and expect him to do well especially in that situation.
  3. He was 6'2" and 175 when he was 18yo playing SS at low-A. Disappointing to see him end up at 1B in the next few years b/c he's lazy.
  4. Who starts in CF against a LHP? Jones, who I would start vs. Lh'ers even with Monroe on the roster.
  5. In case of a blow out knocking out one of the Cubs starters, I'd rather have Hart eat most of the innings instead of wearing down the pen 1 inning at a time. The Cubs righties have been good vs. lefties. They need 2 middle infielders off the bench, they need Pie as a defensive replacement late/pinch runner.
  6. Of course, it's hindsight as events have occured, I don't think it swayed very many opinions though. Even it did, it doesn't erase what has occured, he has not pitched well since coming to the Cubs. Trachsel kept the team in two games and he failed to do so in the other two. I qualify starts as anything >6IP and <2ER as putting your team in a position to win. You go 6IP w/3ER, technically a QS, but you kept them in the game moreso than putting them in a position to win. I was hoping Lou would go to a 6 man rotation early on in the month to get some extra rest for the final 2 weeks/postseason and it didn't work out like that.
  7. My 25 man roster would be... Soto Kendall Lee Ward Derosa Fontenot Theriot Cedeno Ramirez Soriano Jones Floyd Murton Pie Zambrano Lilly Hill Marquis Hart Wuertz Eyre Wood Howry Marmol Dempster
  8. If we do make it, I think even with the NL as weak as it is there's a real solid chance we get swept right out without much of a thought. And there's a real solid chance we won't... All comes down to Hill, Lilly, and Z. Lilly has been the most consistent, Z has been the least consistent, Hill is most likely to be fatigued, but each have the ability to shut down the opposition to under 2 runs. Let's hope the Cubs are in a hot streak offensively. I hate offenses that can score 50 runs in one week and 10 the next week.
  9. Talentwise, I think the Cubs have more talent. Of course, I thought SD, NYM, and Det had more talent than STL last year too. I don't see the Cubs getting the same starting pitching the Cards had in the posteseason last year. Carpenter, Suppan, Weaver were outstanding and Reyes did well in game 1 of the WS. They pitched over their heads last year and the Cubs would have to do likewise, putting odds on that are smaller rather than expected.
  10. The Cubs had their two worst starters going in the series and got shut down by mediocre pitching, everyone is trying to hit the game winning HR in the 1st inning. Trachsel has no stuff to begin with, Marquis was flying open leaving his sinker up, having to try and throw a flat 93 4 seamer, and Lilly had one bad inning when he couldn't find the release point on his curve. It was a bad time for the Cubs hitters to make their starters look good for a series. Plus, Fredi had a better series managing than Lou.
  11. Originally, it was a low risk/low reward type of trade. Given how he has cost the Cubs a couple of games w/bad pitching in this race, it has become a very high risk/low reward trade.
  12. Fwiw, I would explore trading Dempster. Although, the market for closers with his salary and mediocre production is likely limited.
  13. Go Cubs again... Steve Garvey will have to wait till tomorrow.
  14. Unlike the Cubs, it's good to see the Pads use some poor defense to their advantage.
  15. For me... Disconnect by the Rollins Band.
  16. All your Pads avatars blow compared to mine. :)
  17. Let's see what Olsen does vs. his childhood team.
  18. Hopefully for the Bucs fans, the new GM learned about cost analysis under Shapiro.
  19. You can trust the job Lou is doing overall and still disagree with individual moves, I won't give him the benefit of the doubt based on experience as there are plenty of equally qualified managers in the game who would go with Soto. I happen to think Soto gives the Cubs the best chance to win.
  20. Did you really change your avatar for 2 innings? I'll keep it though if they win this and one more.
  21. Did you really change your avatar for 2 innings? I'm guessing yes...
