  1. I've said it before, I think Logan White is the best avail. GM. If you gave me the choice of the potnetial unknown of White and the expected results of Hendry, I'd go with White. Yes, this. As well as Logan White has done as a farm director, I'm not sure how well this translates into being a good GM. Our current GM who everyone bashes was hired when he was the farm director of the #1 farm system in baseball. I'm not sure how well these skills translate from one job to another. It translates well if you have solid evaluation skills and combine with the desire to obtain as much info. as possible as far as a statistical side and a scouting side. I think he would put forth a greater emphasis on building from within than Hendry has and not deviate from that, like Hendry did. For me, that's the comparison in a nutshell, I believe White has better evaluation skills and would bring a better plan as to how maximize the team.
  2. An older and short, but good piece on White.. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/columnists/040224callis.html http://sportsblogs.latimes.com/sports_baseball_dodgers/2007/02/talking_with_lo_1.html http://sportsblogs.latimes.com/sports_baseball_dodgers/2007/02/in_part_i_of_ou.html
  3. Logan White. OK, bring him here, then. And then let him trade our older players for all those damn young and inexperienced players that Coletti wants to get rid of. Earlier in thread from me...

  5. Comparing Hendry to GMs that are w/teams that are either developmentally or fiscally are not in a position to contend is flawed. Given that, he's done some good things and he's done some bad things. Given 5 years, the talent he has had to build around, and the payroll, they should've done more than what they have so far. Comparing the last 5 years to past Cubs futility is also a mistake, that only shows how bad they were moreso than how good things have become. Although, Dallas Green is still the best Cubs GM in my lifetime.

  7. Red Sox over Angels Indians over Yankees Red Sox over Indians Cubs over DBacks Phils over Rocks Phils over Cubs Red Sox over Phils
  8. Clement's, if (I was LH'ed) I could hit 5-10 HRs there when I was in HS. Marshalltown, Iowa has the best HS field I've seen by far, but it is made to give up some HRs.
  9. Yep, and he was right there for the national record as well. Which I believe is now Jeff Clement's, you can partially thank his amazing HS field for that.
  10. They still ranked 15th in the NL in walks on offense and 13th in walks allowed. Hitters like Theriot, Lee, Derosa, Floyd, etc are the main reasons why they had the spike in BBs on offense. As far as pitching, Hill improved his control, Lilly had few walks in the innings he pitched and the bullpen was better than '06. I think it's more of Hendry improving the talent rather than an improvement of approach by Piniella.
  11. No, the can of worms would be too huge, calls at 1B, line drives down the line, etc. MLB baseball relies on the casual fan, slowing the pace down would not be a good thing for someone w/little interest already. Obviously, you'd like it to be perfect but replay is something I hope I never see.
  12. battle of offenses favors rockies. plus homefield advantage. Don't be a buzzkill. :)
  13. I'm rooting for SD, for reasons already mentioned
  14. For a team with such a low OBP, SD has been too passive with two strikes.
  15. Until Peavy finds that release point on the slider, he's still going to get hit.
  16. But do you want the chance of a collision at the plate with your ace pitcher? Ruben Quevado could've scored on that one, it would not have been close.
  17. horrible by the Pads, a RH'ed OF moving to his left and you don't send him?
  18. Another bad slider, yes these stats count for '07.
  19. Fogg won't get thru the order the second time as easily as this.
  20. Should've been more than 2, the way Peavy was locating. His slider wasn't nearly as sharp as it usually is.
