our GM signs free swingers and our minor league coaches don't preach plate discipline Absolutely true - the organizational philosophy is what causes this mess. Having 1 or 2 free swingers on a team is typical, but having a lineup full of them leads to exactly what we've seen all year long - we'll go on hot streaks and win games 10-1 and 13-2, and then turn around and get shut out 3 days in a row. Free swinging breeds inconsistency and the worst thing is that a lineup of free swingers makes it too easy for a good starting pitcher to get our guys out. Or bail out crappy pitchers by swinging at bad pitches.
