  1. This is pretty gross for sure, and unacceptable. But the worst for me would have been if Gore, Ryan, Cabrera, et. al were traded somewhere else. It's pretty clear that Jed didn't want to trade his assets for a rental, which I can respect in and of itself. He wanted a controllable asset. But not addressing the rotation more than he did is simply unacceptable. Suarez would have been a luxury, but a solid rotation piece was a necessity.
  2. What a bewildering trade
  3. I grew into my fandom in through the 80's, with it really coalescing in 1989. And there is no doubt that Sandberg was my favorite athlete throughout those years and into my teens. I don't have many of my old baseball cards, but I still have a long box of just Ryno cards, including multiple rookie cards I saved up to buy in my tween years. I have an OG Sandberg jersey, had Sandberg posters on my walls, and in LL/Babe Ruth league I tried my best to emulate his batting style. He has since been eclipsed as my favorite Cubs player ever by flashier players, but Sandberg was a central figure in my growth into a Cubs fan. Beyond the fact that the passing of a childhood idol is also a reminder of my own mortality, it's one less living link to my childhood, and a huge bummer.
  4. That depends on if we're talking just about 2025. For this year, Bryant is the only choice. So obvious it shouldn't have to be asked. MVP Bryant on this team would be almost pornographic. If we're talking about plucking one 2019 player and adding them to the 2025 team for this year and following years, it'd be Schwarber. The rest all started turning into pumpkins at varying rates after 2016, save Baez.
  5. A couple of months ago I might have been okay with it, but while I'm not convinced that he's cooked, odds seem very good you're not getting much from Alcantara for the rest of this year. And he may be cooked. Frankly Miami would probably best be served holding onto him for the rest of the year hoping he can get his horsefeathers together than deal him this summer. Unless he finds it really quickly. I'd be livid if Caissie alone was given up for him right now.
  6. I think Hoge is okay, but the rest of that crew is a total meatball clown car. It's unwatchable
  7. Felix Bautista may become available if things don't change soon for the O's
  8. If he had just gone with another fastball on 0-2 to Hill we wouldn't be here
  9. It's certainly true that Martinez is known as much for his off the field contributions with the Cubs as much as anything. (allegedly)
  10. Before the season I would have taken .500 in April if it were offered. The crazy thing is that it should be even better than 17-10. Of course there's still time to lose a few, but this is pretty much a best case at this point in the season.
  11. I feel for the kid, but he's made two misplays at absolutely brutal junctures over the past few days. Somehow the Cubs won both, but man. I read the both plays as him getting ahead of himself, though the first one was slightly more excusable than the one tonight. The hard thing is that he is giving nothing at the plate, either. I don't think they send him back to Detroit quite yet, though.
  12. 2001 Sosa for me, but the best I've seen since then for sure.
  13. Yeah, I think outside of the recent teams, the 1987-1991 squads are the ones I know the best. Those were my formative years as a Cubs fan. Bielecki was pretty decent in 1989, but totally unremarkable outside of that year.
  14. Based on the Nike Air cleats, I'm thinking it's no earlier that the mid-late 80's. And was was mentioned earlier, that's a very downhill delivery. I'm gonna guess Bielecki or Sanderson, though the former seems more like it.
  15. Yeah, I also got a kick out of Brenly referring to Turner as "the red menace".
  16. Honestly I can't fault how Counsell handled that 8th inning. A six run lead seemed like a good spot to ease Wicks back in, and when it started to go sideways he went to his best reliever.
  17. I'm honestly trying to recall seeing something like that live, and I'm not sure I can.
  18. I was gonna turn it off, but I just (like during the 7th inning) signed a job offer after 7 months of being unemployed and was like, today is a good day, I'll let it ride
  19. Now I'm gonna watch the Arizona broadcast of the bottom of the 8th lol
