Because they've had two winning seasons in the past 8 years and play in a park no one can hit in? The point is, adding Shields to the Cubs is more impactful, IMO, than adding him to the Padres

If Shields is the kind of player who is content to collect a paycheck on a crappy team because that team happens to play in his hometown in sunny Southern California, perhaps he's not the player the Cubs need? I get that he's better than the collection of humps currently competing for rotation spots, but shouldn't we want someone who values winning over weather? /hot take

What do you mean by worse? It's much more rare for basketball players to flip schools after committing (though this has started to change). I'm not saying basketball recruiting is pretty. Worse in terms of the hand-wringing and over-analysis and how quickly landing/not landing key recruits can turn a program.
