  1. I heard 90 million. If so, great for him. Great for us too.
  2. I know baseball is a business (and I think its the right move for the Cubs long term) and its somewhat irrational, but man, this news just hits hard. I loved Dex. His personality, his character, and his performance were so important for this team. This team had their greatest struggles when he was gone. Could be coincidental, but also might not be. I get it. At the same time, I'm so happy for him that he's cashing in after gambling on himself and choosing to return to us for a wild, magical ride. Enjoy getting your ring and your first ovation, Dex. Well earned.
  3. Not as hard to find when there are at least a couple of them available as free agents currently though. Would you be willing to bring back Chapman at 90 million over 5 years? Jansen around that value too? History shows that doesn't work.
  4. I agree with the sentiment, but the idea is that if Soler ever puts it together, he's still locked up for a good bit of time at a very reasonable cost. But he'll never recognize his potential here due to opportunity. He had his chance and that ship has sailed. Great idea to sell him now because there's not going to be an opportunity to improve his value.
  5. I'm not sure you can really make a case for "he was never given a chance" when he's been consistently hurt. I have no doubt that the Cubs wanted him to play more both in 15 and 16, but he's been hurt too frequently. Now he's been displaced and pushed aside AND he's bringing in a potentially elite threat at one of our biggest positions of need. Yes, there's injury concerns with Davis, but the high upside nature that he brings to the back end of the bullpen is a great weapon for us to have going into next season.
  6. I'm excited about this. Soler is the guy who will absolutely tantalize and tease you with his talent. He's immensely talented, but way too injury prone and completely blocked in the corners for the foreseeable future. I understand that giving him up means an opportunity may go away for a young, cost controlled starter, but don't you think Theo and Jed would have done it by now if the deal presented itself to them and it made sense?

  8. This seems like a major pipe dream to me. Great player no doubt, but I have almost zero interest in him at his proposed price point. Regardless of how much money is printed at Wrigley, the Cubs aren't going to launch their payroll into the stratosphere and into the nasty tax range. If you're expecting that, I'd wager you're going to be disappointed.
  9. Holmes has had his own show for what, 5-6 years now? They can't have someone who will be too argumentative with Bernstein. My guess is it'll be Barry Rosner.
  10. Thanksgiving was very generous today for teams like mine. Kirk Cousins, Jordan Reed, and Antonio Brown? Yes please.
  11. Watching Schwarber with A-Rod (and Kelly...) makes me realize A: how much I love Schwarber because he's so eloquent about the struggles he had during rehab. His story was inspiring. B: A-Rod is a superstar in the making on TV. Damn, he's AWESOME.
  12. That sounds like a miserable existence.
  13. "Sure, kid, I'll talk to you about your 90 PAGE paper on college sports, but only if your teacher and you read it! Deal?" Who has a 90 (!!!) PAGE paper in Journalism 102? Isn't the first rule of journalism that your audience has about 3 minutes worth of attention span? He wrote a horsefeathering novel.
  14. horsefeathers You!!!!!!! Javy is going to have more jewelry than Derek Jeter all in a Cubs uniform. What's wrong with exploring the market for a guy with similar flaws to his game that existed 12 months ago, but now has an LCS MVP and a Game 7 Home Run under his belt? I love Javy and think he has a ton of value. But that's precisely why you explore trading him. He should bring you back a young starting pitcher with cost control that should provide excellent value into the years beyond when Lackey, Arrietta (who I think the Cubs have no desire to re-sign), and now Hammel are gone.
  15. I advocated for trading Rondon back in September. Unfortunately, he sucked in the postseason likely killing his trade value. Too many arm issues over the course of his career to even entertain the idea of committing to him long term. I'd be very worried if he's the "premier" reliever we have next season, especially in the middle of our championship window. Btw, this free agent group stinks. I'd rather they focus on a stud reliever preferably Jansen over Chapman or Melancon. I don't think any of those guys get 20 million, let alone 25 million. Also, what are the odds that Baez is on the move this offseason? He is really a similar player, projection wise, as a season ago, but with the high trade value based on performance in the postseason. Someone will be a casualty this offseason other than Soler, who's an obvious choice to go. Javy's the likeliest choice to bring back a guy who will help fill that void when 60% of our starting rotation is gone in 2018 and beyond.
  16. Did they take it down? I can't see it there anymore.
  17. I feel like you should change your username to 17 minutes now.
  18. I'll take a rather dull celebration (minus Rizzo and Joe) any day of the week.
  19. Cahill looks so frumpy
  20. She needs to disappear quickly.
  21. CSN has been great although my streaming feed is currently frozen. I actually listen to Kap's show everyday via podcast. While yes, a blowhard about certain things, he's a legit Cubs fan who's been talking people off the ledge all season long and touting how great they are. Even after being down 3-1.
  22. I thought he'd be super annoying and really hasn't been yet He's so smooth on the mic, not over the top, sincere/genuine, and insightful. A great combo.
  23. I'm actually digging CM Punk on this coverage on CSN Chicago.
  24. Lets take this moment to show our appreciation for how awesome our announcers are. [tweet]https://twitter.com/LenKasper/status/794562367963234304[/tweet]
