  1. Yeah, I just don't get it. I'm a baseball fan first and Cub fan second, so I'd be excited even if a non-Cub was going for it, but since he's a Cub now I'm even more pumped. And it's happening at the greatest ball park in the world (yes, I'm biased).
  2. Macias will probably get at least one start in LF. Macias hasn't started a game in left field yet this year. Why do you think he will now ? Because, people from Chicago always think the sports cup is half empty. Some people see the glass as half full Others see it as half empty Cubs fans worry about when the glass will tip over. Weather permitting, we will have history made tonight at the Friendly Confines and we're talking about Macias.
  3. Gerut has not passed up Murton on the ph chart. You're going overboard now. If the first pinch-hitter up is against a lefty pitcher, do you really think Gerut would get the call? They both have to stand in line behind Macias! :x I don't know why some people get worked up when Macias is the first off of the bench in the middle innings of a one-run game, or a blowout. That's when I want a weak hitter hitting. Thank God he wasn't available in the ninth inning to hit!
  4. I'm somewhat amazed at the seemingly lack of attention this potential feat is getting on the board. I know Maddux has said he won't really look at everything until he retires, but we, as fans, should look at it now. I don't know when the next time we'll see a 300 win/3000K pitcher.
  5. Anybody else excited about the probability of seeing history tonight? Although I'd rather not have his contract next year, I'm happy and excited for Maddux's 3000K tonight. Hopefully, we'll be able to see a Cub one day pick up his 3000 hit. But this is another great milestone for one of the greatest pitchers in my lifetime. I vaguely remember Fergie getting his 3000th strikeout. For some reason I keep thinking they didn't televise that game in San Diego, but then I swear I saw it on WGN. To the younger people, there was a time when WGN didn't televise Cubs games from San Diego. They would SF and LA, but skip the San Diego trip. 25 years later, I still don't know why. Anyway, good luck Greg Maddux and I hope you get the 3000th K and the win tonight.
  6. I'll bet Murton gets the starts -- if there are three straight lefties facing the Cubs. I dislike Hollandsworth starting, as I said back in March, but isn't Murton's average benefitting from his first start? I thought with his hit last night, he's now 4-16. I like the kid, but I'm not sure yet if he's Bo Hart or a real everyday player. My main contention is that we should've gotten a bonafide leftfielder in the offseason (as I still scratch my head wondering why so many people were hoping we weren't going to get Cliff Floyd), hopefully we can still get one. Murton is 9 for 22, or .409 AVG. I should've been more clear. I meant 4 for his last 16. I know he's had more than 16 at-bats total. In any event, I was wrong. I look forward to seeing him play tonight. I hope the Giants don't throw Tomko tomorrow.... check that. I hope they do throw Tomko tomorrow (he sucks), and I hope Murton gets the start, but he won't.

  9. Murton will start tonight since a lefty is throwing.
  10. At least from what I have heard here it seems as if he's pretty much announced it already, although it may not have been done formally. But, man, he may not be able to come back and play consistently the rest of the way. He says the cortisone shots aren't working. But we'll have to see.
  11. Also, be glad it's not April. The timing of the injuries is important. Had this been the middle of April, I guarantee the Cardinals wouldn't have a double digit lead in June and July. THe cushion you have may be enough to hold off the Astros and Cubs. Just hope your starters remain healthy. But remember, the Cards are 3-4 in their last seven. Have they had a seven game record of that at all this year?
  12. Why? He won us one game. How many games has he cost us over the last month and a half or so with his horrible play. Add to that the fact that Cedeno is wasting development time while he sits on the bench and gets to pinch hit every couple of weeks. It may be Dusty's fault but it still completely unacceptable.. How many has he cost the Cubs over the last month and a half? Neifi's defense has remained outstanding this year regardless of his contribution with his bat and he plays a position where defense is highly valued. He is not the greatest hitter by any means, but he is a backup SS. I can't stand Neifi with a bat. I still think he's one of the worst offensive players in baseball. However, I think one would be extremely shortsighted to not acknowledge that his glove has saved many runs so far this year. It's amazing how some fans disregard or forget defense. It was poor defense that made Saturday's game closer than what it should've been.
  13. Houston will go so far as a healthy Pettite and Oswalt will carry them. The Phils, I think, are still a streaky team. Hopefully they will have their 15 game slump or so, especially when we're there next week. Although we have several teams to climb, we're only one out on the loss side to a lot of those teams.
  14. Nice close series. Too bad the Cards can use the excuse that they're missing three regulars. Then again, we're missing two and a half (including Patterson) regulars.
  15. With our bullpen, I only would feel comfortable with a two-run lead for every out needed to end the game. Thus, I will only feel comfortable with a 12 run lead tonight.
  16. Walker and Burnitz are killing us. Those are the two biggest spots in the lineup - in front of and behind Lee. If Walker remains in a slump like this series, DLee might as well not take a bat to the plate.
  17. I haven't read the posts on here tonight, but can anyone explain to me why LaRussa would call for a hit and run with Pujols up?
  18. When we get little production from our 2-5 hitters it's generally a long night.
  19. I'll bet you a cyber-nickel that Blanco is starting tonight. He's cuaght Prior's last 4 starts..... 6 out of his last 7..... and 9 out of 14 overall. I believe he will too. I don't see Barrett playing tonight after playing in yesterday afternoon's game right after a night game. I like Prior with Blanco. I forget what complete game Prior threw but it was before the elbow break, after the game he pointed at Blanco and tapped him on the helmet as they met to shake hands. I just think Prior is more comfortable with Blanco, not that he couldn't pitch a great game with Barrett. Hopefully we won't have to depend on Blanco's bat with Suppan, the Cards worst starter, on the mound.
  20. Ouch !! OOOOoooooooooohh. Ouch. That, friends, is a burn. OH, and since we were talking about Lineups, Mine would be: Hairston Walker Lee Ramirez Barrett Burnitz Murton Cedeno Or, if blanco is catching Hairston Walker Lee Ramirez Burnitz Murton Cedeno Blanco With Barrett batting behind Ramirez, I'd intentionally walk Ramirez almost everytime someone was on base to face Barrett. Barrett over the past two seasons doesn't seem to be as patient when men are on base. I'm glad the infield was playing in yesterday or his hit would've been a 6-3 put out. Ideally, I'd like Burnitz hitting behind ARam, but I do think Burnitz gets better pitches to hit in front of ARam.
  21. We've had a 20 percent increase in payroll the past two years, I really don't see this as being a payroll issue. It's not a payroll issue. The issue is the decisions made using the payroll. Why else have the Cardinals and Astros pretty much dominated the NL Central for the past ten seasons while having an equal or less payroll than the Cubs?
  22. It's been brutal here and thank goodness it's a night game tonight..... which means it should only be 100 at game time. The high today is supposed to be 102 with the heat index around 115. But that's summer in St. Louis. Many empty seats (righfully so) in the sun seats today. I watched some highlights of the game last night and it seemed Pujols was upset about the "miscommunication" between he and LaRussa regarding Pujols' shoulder. I thought LaRussa was just giving him the hot afternoon off. Pujols was extremely short with the media yesterday.
  23. 8 runs might not be enough if you have to go to the pen. I want the Cub team that the starter goes eight and the closer shuts down the ninth.
  24. I'm generally optimistic, but we are going to have to have all three starters go at least seven innings each start for us to have a good series in STL. The bad news weather wise is each day is supposed to be around 100, and we're talking summertime in St. Louis so add the massive humidity and it may be hard for starters to go long. I hope Zambrano gets fed plenty of fluids tonight and tomorrow to alleviate any possible cramping.
  25. Are you kidding us? You list those names and not one name from the bullpen? What Cub team have you been watching?
