  1. This is a very delicious proposition: :good: http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2013/07/the-latest-on-matt-garza-could-the-cubs-get-these-3-players-from-the-giants/
  2. Liked Scott. He obviously was not hitting for average but he's a useful piece for a contender. I wish him well as he tries to help Washington win a title this year.
  3. Good read here on Castro by Jon Greenberg of ESPN Chicago. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/9457448/starlin-castro-struggling-fourth-season-chicago-cubs
  4. Eh. They play pretty well at home and against bad teams, but they go through some serious offensive droughts a little too often. That said, your point stands - they'd be in the hunt if they had even half as many blown saves. 10 games under and with an average pen, they're a .500 team right in the thick of a playoff spot. I know this team is rebuilding and the goal is much more than just contend for a wild cars spot. That said, that's the reality of this season.
  5. As I've said before, if this team had an average pen, we are squarely in the wild card hunt. It really raises the question as to how far are the Cubs really away from contending? A good pen?
  6. Did you really need to go that far back? Not really but that team was especially fun as we clinched the 03 title against them
  7. I like the 2003 version of the Pirates who are now on the field.. :yahoo:
  8. A better question may be when is Castro going to stop sucking?
  9. So, basically, we stinks?
  10. Carlos Zambrano, Carlos Marmol, Ryan Dempster, Kerry Wood, Alfonso Soriano, Aramis Ramirez, Kosuke Fukudome, Geovany Soto Minor Leagues, Minor Leagues, Decent in Boston, Retired, Barely above replacement level, Still good, Back in Japan, Backup Catcher hitting .182 What a difference 5 years makes To see how hard Z, Marmol, Demp, Soto and Fuku went down the tubes is indeed amazing.
  11. I liked the 2008 list.
  12. NSBB: Where minor league Baseball always takes center stage over the MLB team.
  13. We should trade Shark while his value is high. He does not appear willing to sign a deal with the state of the current club. Sell high!!
  14. Corey Patterson was never a great player. He had one very good half in 03 and after that, he went from good to flat out brutal. He was a 3-win player in 2004 and a 4-win player in 2006. Yes. I said he was a fairly good player but great? No. Not even close. And I was a big CP fan. But, Tim was talking about right after '03. At that point he just had that very good half season, was still very young, and was still very hyped. It makes sense to include him like he did. There have been plenty of players who had good half seasons. Tim said Patterson was a great player. I simply pointed out that not one person I know ever said Patterson was a great player after 03. Sure, plenty of us thought he might turn out to be great, but he was not a great player at the time. He had a few good seasons in the Majors after 03 and then, well, all that other stuff happened. Mainly sucking.

  16. Corey Patterson was never a great player. He had one very good half in 03 and after that, he went from good to flat out brutal. People just keep providing examples of underestimating how good Patterson was for a while. You said he was great. I never heard any Cubs fan or baseball people in general say Patterson was a great player. He ended up being a bust considering the amount on hype surrounding him.

  18. Or something, because he wasn't really DFA'd and I should know better than to believe Peter Gammons. Did he pocket tweet this info?
