  1. Thanks for your comments. Yes, Southisene in high-A makes a lot of sense and is fun. As you likely know, Escobar played more OF than 2B last year. Southisene had a solid K/W and should not be overwhelmed in high-A. Of course a 0.665 full-season OPS last year is underwhelming and could argue for a mid-season promotion. Melendez could end up starting 2026 as a high-A utility infielder if Fernando Cruz or Derniche Valdez surprise. Yes, with the current MiL roster, Bateman is likely to start in AAA.
  2. Here is an early look at one possible placement of Cub minor leaguers in 2026. Position players. Clearly, several MiFA will need to be signed. If you would like to play this game, other options include C Jose Silva, OF Edward Vargas, OF Joan Delgado, IF Drew Bowser, CF Robin Ortiz Starting pitchers ( Tyler S. is eligible to be a MiFA but I assume he is re-signed here). Mason McGwire and Colton Book are other options.
  3. Could happen. Assuming a typical 14 month recovery, he could pitch an inning or two during the last week of the 2026 AFL season.

  5. I wouldn't give up on SB just yet. Despite their miserable overall record, they are tied for the 2nd half lead in their division.
  6. Oft-injured 5th round (2020) draft choice, Koen Moreno made his season debut for South Bend. He hasn't pitched since last June. Hopefully, this multi-inning appearance (2.1) signals they have few health concerns going forward, although a multi-inning first appearance back for Kohl Franklin in early May didn't work out so well.

  8. Could you add Connor Noland to the options
  9. Thanks. I guess the only change is that there won't be any late evening calls from agents saying "you know, the HS kid I represent hoped to be draft despite his "I will not sign" pledge and would consider an offer.
  10. Is the 11th round still a "thing" given the draft has been suppressed into 2 days?
  11. Thanks for pointing that out, it's easy to give up on a guy who enters June with a 0.150 BA and sub 0.500 OPS. Another likely non-prospect who is hitting well recently is Reivaj Garcia
  12. Perhaps related. RHRP Jordan Henriquez 6’4” 245 Lbs (200404) [2024-DR] Jordan signed with the Cubs a few weeks before his 20th birthday. In 2024, Jordan posted a 21/10 K/W in 24.1 DSL IP with a 0.174 BAA. In 2025, Jordan returned to the DSL posting a 13/5 K/W in 9.1 IP with a 0.094 BAA before getting promoted to the ACL in late June.

  14. I'm curious as to why Cameron spent so much time in low-A given his age, OPS, K/W and how poorly Brian Kalmer has played. Perhaps they were hoping he could re-find his power stroke while working on his fielding, perhaps they wanted to give Brian a fair chance as he presumably beat out Cameron this spring, perhaps they believed Cameron's success this year was due to a SSS, or other (likely the actual reason)
  15. Erstwhile prospect LF/CF Ismael Mena took the field for the first time in nearly a year. The speedy free swinger acquired in the Darvish trade was the Cubs #15 prospect entering 2021 - according to Baseball America. However, he missed 2020 (of course) and didn't hit a lick during his ACL stints in 2021 and 2022 or in Myrtle Beach in 2023 and early 2024. He began his rehab stint by going 2 for 4.
  16. Long and Ballesteros for 6-8 slots. Franklin and Caissie for #16 So, either I'm forgetting someone or underestimating Caissie or Franklin The BA article states that Caissie has a mean exit velocity of 92.6 compared to 89.5 in 2024 while his average launch angle increased from 13.9 to 16.1.
  17. Thanks for the expert comments. Likely you mean the South Bend players that matter are relatively young. Carter Trice, Ivan Brethowr, Christian Hernandez, and Jefferson Rojas are young or at least not too old for high-A The team as a whole is a bit older than average (4th oldest hitters and 4th oldest pitchers out of 12 teams) https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/league.cgi?id=1de37e23
  18. Yes the timing was a surprise to me. Got to make room for All Horizon League first teamer (twice) Sammy Sass, I guess (just kidding Sammy will turn 25 late this year). Could be related to how few base stealers he throws out (14%). Maybe the Cubs have decided he will never be a major league catcher. By comparison, punchless Jairo Diaz has thrown out 41% of base stealers at the same level.
  19. As most of you know, the diminutive Darlyn hasn't played 2B in a while; he is primarily a LF. He was a mid-season DSL all star last year and began his 4th DSL season this spring. So (unless the rules have changed) this is the last season he could be on an International roster. Chicken and egg question. Was Eli Lovich promoted to make room for Darlyn? Was Eli promoted because of Anderson Suriel's struggles? Was Eli Lovich promoted because of his performance this spring? Or none of these?
  20. Isn't he one of those guys that is viewed as having nothing left to work on in the minors but insufficient stuff to succeed at the next level? I'm sure he'd love to prove that idea wrong. Who knows maybe he and Jaxon could be teammates again as ML starters this time.
  21. Best outing of 6' 5" Wilme Mora's 4-year minor league career (3 IP, 2K, 1BB, 0H). Always interesting to follow a raw athlete who early in his 4th year has more walks than strikeouts, hits-allowed than strikeouts, but also more strike outs than IP.
  22. Random notes: Brethowr falls off list after posting 0.129 BA in the last 10 days. Ethan Hearn is playing as much 1B as C. Chase Strumpf has a 0.311 ISO at Iowa Parker Chavers had a good 10-day period in a backup role at AA (6/15 with 3 walks) Alexey Lumpuy was 2/27 with 14 strike outs in low-A Also, as a DH, Cole Mathis has a 0.216 BA but a 0.186 ISO in low-A. ...
  23. Arguably the only good game of his career - a long time coming for the 2022 draftee who turns 25 this summer. The development line for pitchers is nonlinear - right!
  24. Yes, Carter has a wRC+ of 115 and an impressive K/W ratio. I'm curious how well he looks in CF.
  25. Players off to a good start, a LF, and a wRC+ darling with no power.
