They are protecting the demand for subscriptions to the networks that pay to air the game. Do the fine people of Iowa have the ability to subscribe to 6 different regional networks? These days people are more likely to use a service like VPN or reddit game streams instead of signing up for cable. If anything, MLB is screwing themselves by taking money out of their own pocket. The puzzling aspect of the MLB blackout rule is there doesnt seem to be any metrics behind the arbitrary boundaries. I'm in NBC Sports Chicago area, which I would get if I subscribed to a cable/satellite package (I don't as is being discussed in the cut the cord thread). I do have an over the air channel which plays the WGN games on one of their alternate ABC channels. I'm sure that will change going forward. I cannot however get Cubs games by signing up with mlb.tv. The sales guy laughed when he heard that I live in Iowa (presumably for a multitude of reasons)
Pretty much nonstop rain and thunderstorms at least through Saturday night. I opted to not take up a friend on his tickets in equal part to the weather and my gigantic, stinky jinx. I have banned my oldest son from games at Wrigley for the rest of the season. He's 0-3. They Cubs have been outscored 28-3 when he's gone to the games. I didn't realize that Mojo was your son.
Can confirm Rizzo is NOT a "super fake dickhole" in real life from multiple people who've met him. Where do you guys come up with these takes? Does anyone else want to speculate on which former players are dicks because there are some pretty obvious ones: [/img] My wife's cousin is dating Rizzo's best friend and she says he is a swell guy but that is because he picks up the bar/dinner tab all the time. She also seems pretty flaky, so I don't consider her a good source. As for Zambrano, back around 2010 a girl I was dating worked at a steak place in Elgin, Zambrano had a party of about 15 people. His tab was around a grand and tipped $20 horsefeathering dollars. Does it mean he is a bad guy or just bad at math? I don't know? Maybe the restaurant should have added the 18% gratuity for parties of 8 or more. It's pretty hard to tell who are good dudes and who are bad from afar. Is TT really Zambrano?
It's a pretty high bar...especially for a guy who prob profiles as a .250ish hitter at best in terms of average (especially with all the shifting against him). Only 10 qualified hitters topped that threshold last year. The only .950+ guys who didn't hit .300 last year were Stanton and Judge, and they hit 50+ dongs.
Once again, it's not a huge deal; just probably not the best idea. If he had said something as broad as you did here? Great! Specifically pointing out that Quintana's team-friendly deal that helped make this happen? Probably something that's not necessary to single out.
Which makes wanting Giancarlo strange because in about 4 years that contract is going to look just as bad as Pujols' contract. nah he's freshly turned 28 and whoever gets him is probably going to get surplus value out of the first few years and money is worth less and less as time goes on, especially in mlb Hi Guys! http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/images/players/head_shot/518792.jpg
Thanks for the nice comments. There were a couple of plays that I wish I would have gotten as well. Buck Coats in RF made a couple of great grabs with one being a shot to the gap that I thought was a double for sure. He also made a nice throw to the plate to nail a guy. I was too busy enjoying watching the game at that point to get a shot of the action.
