obviously not wanting to pry too much bc who the hell am i, but i asked the FIL if i should be prepared to drink away my sorrows tomorrow after work or if the cubs are still in it... "Still in very much so" i realize that this is worthless as far as whether cubs are in line to get him, but at the very least, at least we know the cubs aren't not going to get him for certain.

two, one of the chicks in sleater kinney doesnt have one. in all seriousness, i really like sleater-kinney... but i completely understand why 99% of the population hate them.

i saw them play it in order live in moline. yeah, i heard about that. very cool. i named my dog Lukin after track #9... i couldn't make any of the shows this tour unfortunately. i've seen them live 18 times... but to see them play an album in order would be pretty awesome.

Yep - my username is in reference to the pearl jam album.... whoever mentioned asheville... i actually just moved to asheville 6 days ago... funny coincidence. anyways, i will clarify that i highly doubt the FIL was yanking my chain... just not something he'd do given our relationship type. i tried to convey that with the "unsolicited" part of my post. also, guys... c'mon, obviously this info is coming via the wife.

i do tend to agree. but hopefully he'd be hesitant to get my hopes up unless there was a significant chance of it happening.

get more info, screenshot it, become an internet legend i'm already being a bit of a dick by posting what i am... alas, i have no cubs fans friends to talk with about this and i guess i try use that to justify my info splurging.. it would be kinda cool to be a northside forum legend though.

just got an unsolicited text from Lester's father-in-law... "Could be a Cub" holy shitballs. on another note, with this Braves talk going on, I know Lester makes Atlanta his offseason home... hopefully that won't prove to be an issue.

Source? I'm friends with Lester's wife's family and they know me to be a diehard Cubs fan... I mentioned some stuff earlier in this thread and was somewhat mocked (deservedly so, I must admit, given the whole Ferris Bueller-esque "best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl" connection I'm providing as my source). But nevertheless, I'm telling the truth and you can feel free to hope with me.

I bet my buddy $1k that the Cubs will finish over .500 with the stipulation that the Cubs have to sign Lester this offseason, i.e. no bet if Lester signs elsewhere. Good bet or bad bet?

Probably doesn't mean much, given free agency has yet to begin, but I am friends with Jon Lester's wife's family. I'm not really wanting to provide "proof," but I worked in Greenville, SC, with the Lester's wife's dad when Lester and the wife met during Lester's rehab. Anyways, it is my understanding that this is a Yankees/Cubs battle. I recently spoke with the wife's mom and, of all freaking things, she mentioned that the Cubs need to improve their stadium's children's daycare. It's the small things, boys...
