    Dempster

The thing that intrigues me, more than 14M for Demp here, or even losing that contract, is the fact that Theo is looking at this and crunching numbers. Has anyone here ever figured out a bell curve for BABIP or WHIP? What exactly IS the average pitcher? Until you know the baseline, it is hard to judge value. Plus: Thick onion gravy. Although, the coolest part of that post was the Long John Silvers hush puppies. Just sayin'

    Dempster

Come on. It's ok. Once he assumes the Raging Anus persona, all will be right with the world. Not sure what's up with the continued hazing, but go for it if that's the game. \:D/

I tend to agree. He was on a crappy team. Skews the stats for one season imho. Didn't bother looking up the last 5, but his performance has been well documented here. His BABIP was all over the place. Not a great year in that regard. 15M is a bit much. 10? Sure. FWIW, I think Demp was a bit unlucky last year, too. http://www.fangraphs.com/comparison.aspx?playerid=517&playerid2=&playerid3=&position=P&page=7&type=full

Still delaying changing that username, I see. Might wanna consider slowing down on the "burns". No onion gravy. =D>

Demp back on a one year thing is not terrible. Was never a fan of the signing to bring him back last time, but he has performed above expectations. 2.8 WAR for 2011 is respectable considering 2.0 is "average". Are the Cubs/ Theo at the point where they pay a slightly above average starting pitcher 15M a year to be what, a 2 at this point considering currently available options? Looks like it, since Hendry gave Dempster the option. Not a fan of this, but not the worst problem Theo will have to deal with. Demp is nowhere near a 2 at this point but what are the options? Spend huge? Factor in Demp is a good clubhouse guy. (I hate writing that as much as you hate reading it, but it is an intangible). Something that will be needed in somewhat of a transition year, it looks like. Would I like Demp gone/ money cleared if at all possible? Yes. Hell to the yes. Not happening, I don't think. But it is a thin FA market for pitching. Work your magic, Theo. (Damn that feels good to say/ think).
  6. Thanks for the warm welcome. You set the bar high my friend. I apologize if my input may have touched a raw nerve or two. That said, as I stated previously, fresh perspective is a good thing. Attempting to snuff out constructive and sincere opinions, critical or no, is counter-productive to that end. Be part of the solution, not a part of the problem. /mini rant
  7. Not sure what people see as "fairly short order", but at 5 hours or more per post approval, it's going to be rather hard for anyone to be a part of the conversation here or to make a quick quip. As to the Cubs fan "again" comment, really? Blood in the water for the faithful here? I was referring to a renewed sense of interest and love for the team that I have lived and died with for over 30 years. Pretty sure I'm not the only one that lost interest and refused to spend any money on the debacle that were the Cubs the last couple of years. This board has a very clique-like mentality, afaik. It limits the amount of people wiling to post here and endure the hazing atmosphere. In turn, this limits input and diversity. Tim and the Mods would do well to try to eliminate that kind of behavior instead of protecting everyone from "spam-bots" imho. You have the ability to moderate after an offending post is made, correct? Hence the comment about a board that feels the need to moderate both before AND after the fact. Just my .02 Flame on. :hello:
  8. Sorry for the double post. Nice to be a part of a "community" that moderates posts both before AND after they go live for people to read. Wow. Not sure if that fact is a condemnation of the posters here or the jailors. At any rate. Happy to be a Cubs fan again and very excited for the future. I'll go back to lurking now. You guys have your selected few people to present ideas and make jokes. As Theo mentioned today, "new blood" or "new ideas" is the path to success. Back to the same ol' same 'ol here, at NSBB it seems. All good. Peace out.
  9. Looks like Theo is already implementing change. The New "Front Office Directory" is already being changed drastically. Looks like everyone that works in the front office is now listed. Until very recently, the Cubs had one of the smallest FO listings in MLB. Theo is apparently implementing his plan to change organizational culture from day 1. By involving everyone and making them visible to the public for the first time, employees will hopefully buy into the new Cubs brand and philosophy. As in any business or organization, change starts at the top. Apparently, Theo knows business. Very smart first move and only the first visible ripple of a tsunami to come. By the way, Crane Kenney is now wayyyyy down the listing and has taken on his new title of President of Business Operations. No longer listed among upper management at Wrigley. Oh, and would it be wrong to write the Cubs Executive Director for Business Operations and ask for her autograph? :-k
  10. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/team/front_office.jsp?c_id=chc While the title looks great and all, does anyone else find it odd that Kenney is still listed as a part of the "Executive" management team? Whether by design or oversight, to the casual observer the organizational structure listed at cubs.com would lead one to believe that Theo's move was indeed a lateral one. Not a great idea heading into the final turn of compensation talks. I don't believe the move was a lateral one for an instant, but perception is in fact reality to many. How Clown Kenney views the new culture in the Cubs front office remains to be seen. The only rationale for leaving the structure like this (if the listing is not an oversight) that I can come up with is to avoid the appearance of a demotion for Kenney. The blurb in the OP article about Kenney refusing to give up the biggest office at Wrigley to the new owner may hold more truth than we realize. Hoping this article is TR's way of laying the groundwork for a roundhouse kick of Kenney to the curb at Clark & Addison.
