  1. I am not on the bandwagon to trade Zambrano. Even though I am mad at him for being lazy when it comes to conditioning, I am hopeful that the Cubs will strongly push him this offseason, and that a more conditioned Zambrano will produce better results in 2010.
  2. I have no doubt that I am somehow a sick human being.
  3. I only asked because the Rick Reilly SI article had me wondering if Cubs fans have either thought about it... maybe not now, but in the past when there certainly was more of a reason for possibly thinking it.
  4. By Cub standards or misfortune, he could end up haunting us. If he continues to suck though, then maybe not.
  5. Some guy on The Score now with Mulli and Hanley (a caller, I believe talking to Stone) is implying that Bradley would fit in well with the White Sox. Stone is saying how wrong the guy is. I would NOT wish Bradly on the White Sox. Maybe the Cardinals (I have a love-hate relationship with them, more so hate after they play the Cubs). Another thing, if he went to the Sox, he'd still be talked about in the Chicago media. I want this guy out of town. Kenny Williams would not be that stupid. Almost anything else, even the DeRosa trade I could excuse Hendry for. Signing Bradley for three years... NO. Fire him, please.
  6. I guess I know my fandom is strong when I get angry all over again each time I hear in great detail, just how bad Hendry screwed up this offseason. It's not news to me, obviously, but just hearing it again, and especially with DeRosa homering twice last night for the Redbirds sends a painful twitch throughout my back. If I can still get this pissed off about it, I guess it's better than being numb, which is how I felt after the 2004 season. That said, I'm not sure which season angers me more - 2004 or 2009. We expected great things in 2004 after the awesome 2003 playoff run, just like we expected good things this year. At least this time, unlike 2004, I won't let it numb me and send me away from baseball for a few years. I think the intrigue of the unknown with Ricketts taking over may give me some optimism, maybe not for the immediate future but hopefully down the line. Does anyone else feel this sense of optimism or is it more anticipation? I guess I'm feeling a little of both for it will be the unknown. I also just hope five or ten years from now, we're not sitting here thinking that we were crazy for wishing the Tribune away with all their vast resources and money (ok, maybe not anymore with the sad state of newspapers these days).
  7. The Cubs will have gone 101 years now without a World Series. I am 25 years old. I have not lived through 101 Cub seasons without a championship. Maybe this logic is flawed, but let's say the Cubs won it all in 1983, the year before I was born. What difference would that make to me if I wasn't around to see it? Perhaps, I am gullable, but I would think that at some point, the Cubs will win a World Series in my lifetime.
  8. Born in '84 and began watching in '92. I perceive the 2000's so far to be one of their better group of years since the early 1900's.
  9. I went through a period earlier this summer with a bit of confusion. The 2004 season really agitated me with the team failing to admit fault and instead, cried about the announcers. I went through a phase where I was mad from the Cubs, and I at the same time was becoming a news/political junkie, so I began listening to talk radio far more and less sports, and that impacted how much sports I watched on TV. I went a good few years without watching ball. I started watching again this summer after attending a game at the Cell with my best buddy who is a Sox fan. I really like their ball club and really took a liking to their team, even though they didn't win a lot. After a Sox game on TV then, I turned back on the Cubs and regularly watched both teams this summer. When my buddy asked me if I was becoming a Sox fan, I said I like the team, and I think their ballpark is more fun, but if the Cubs ever played the Sox in the World Series, there was no way I could root against the Cubs. If it's any consolation though, last weekend at the Cubs Store in Woodfield, I did buy a blue D. Lee jersey, so I think that reaffirms my loyalty.
  10. Just because of the losing and bad luck, I'm sure it's had to cross some of your minds to think about adopting a new baseball team, whether it is the White Sox or some other team in the MLB? The protocol dictates that switching teams is not optional, but it doesn't stop some people. I ask only because of a recent Rick Reilly ESPN column where he puts a slight dig in his column stating that if you're a Cubs fan, then make the switch already. For me, some of the stereotypes such as all Cub fans are drunks who only go to enjoy the outdoor beer garden and that we are dumb -- I realize that is all preposterous. I do sometimes think though that the whole aura of the team though, with "bleeding Cubbie blue," and the obsession of the ivy, as well as Ron Santo and Ronnie Woo Woo, I sometimes do think that our team is rather dorky. Am I alone with such thoughts?
  11. Yup... you're right. As excited I am about the 2009 postseason, I am more excited about the 2010 season just so that 2009 is behind us.
  12. It's really a bum that Chicago won't have any presence in the postseason this year. Despite that, I am really looking forward to this year's postseason as it seems we won't be short of good teams that will ultimately compete towards the World Series. I'm excited to see how the Yankees, Cardinals, Dodgers and Phillies playout, and to a lesser extent, Boston. Is there any team in particular you will be rooting for, or do you simply not care without the Cubs? I'm sort of an oddball, as I actually do really like the Cardinals. A Cub fan and a Cardinals fan? I don't know how to explain it except that I always just thought they were cool so I never really hated them (except that odd five game series against them at the end of the season a few years back, where the Cubs took 3 or 4 games - that was awesome). I'll also be rooting for the Yankies. I would ultimately love to see the Yankees and Cardinals in the World Series (second choice would be NY and LA).
  13. Last thing Wrigley needs is a jumbotron telling fans when to get loud. I HATE it when I'm at other ballparks and seeing that.
  14. I don't do it necessary to piss, piss off White Sox fans. It's more of an old habit that started between by best friend who is a Sox fan. I started doing it years ago to remind him that his team took on a name and identity that was basically dropped by what would later be the Cubs. I don't hate the White Sox. I love going to U.S. Cellular Field and have no problem cheering for them when they are not playing the Cubs.
  15. I refer to the "White Sox" as the White Stockings... probably dumb on my part, but it has riled up Sox fans because I am disrespecting them. To be honest, I do like the southside team, but not their fans because of their obsession with us.
  16. Fully understand it's good for marketing. And I won't lie... I go to the games and I still sing along. My White Stockings fan friend was with me at Sunday's game and was making fun of me saying that Stocking fans would never sing along to such a lame song. He never did reply to my email the next day when I sent him the YouTube vid of Harry Caray conducting the 7th inning stretch at the old Comiskey Park.
  17. It's bad enough they have extended this gimmick since 1998, but the television interviews afterwards in the bottom of the 7th can be awkward. I guess for the few good ones, you get quite a few bad ones. Tonight with Drew Barrymore with Len and Bob was just plain awkward and uncomfortable to listen to. The inning would never end (which was a good thing since we were batting), but finally with still only one out, Len must had gotten word from production to let her go. I wouldn't mind if they did the guest conductor bit on Sunday home games or something like that, but seriously, why can't we just let Ron Santo do it each game now?
  18. The logo on the alternate jersey with the C and the Cub is cool. I wouldn't mind seeing them adopt that on their home jerseys and even doing away with the pin stripes. Ok, and I kind of have done a reverse from when I started this thread. I would now vote to NOT change the shade of blue. I was in the Cubs store over in Woodfield Mall over the weekend and actually saw some merchandise that was darker blue and I did not like the way it looked. As for the modern-futuristic uniform sketches above, they do look cool, but not for the Cubs. It was actually seeing that illustration that partially made me change my mind that the Cubs should just keep their colors, but maybe consider adopting the C and the Cub logo.
  19. There were some noticeable empty seats today at Wrigley. I got my tickets pretty cheap on StubHub yesterday morning. There were a lot of cheap tickets on there, probably from angry fans who just want to get a little something back. Beautiful day though and a Cubs win so I won't complain. Even my White Sox fan friend had a good time.
  20. I hate that CBS sports thing at the top. I wish it could just be removed altogether.
  21. Absolutely LOVE the home white from that throwback game last year. Was at the Sox game tonight (long story). One of the people in attendance was wearing the classic blue alternate back from the Sandberg days in the 1980's. Such an awesome freakin' uniform, it's too bad the guy wearing it was a drunken jag who didn't deserve to be sporting such a fine looking piece of clothing.
  22. HATE the Cubbie-Bear logo. I wouldn't mind them dropping the pinstripes, but I don't hate them. Just would like to see a darker shade of blue more than anything. I kind of hate (not just for the Cubs) the combination of red and blue, unless it is supposed to be patriotic.
  23. A friend of mine were talking about this and whether or not Ricketts would ever change anything about the Cubs appearance - logo, colors, uniform, etc. My friend argued no way, while I stated that I would welcome small changes. I would welcome a darker shade of blue... the type of blue that the Cardinals use for their road caps. I would drop their current logo and get rid of the modern C, unless they alternate it to make it look more interesting. As for the main logo, I like the one on my windbreaker, linked below. http://www.footballfanatics.com/MLB_Chicago_Cubs/Nike_Chicago_Cubs_Royal_Blue_Staff_Ace_Windshirt Would Cub fans be accepting of any color/logo changes?
