  1. Just say no to drugs
  2. Do you chase ambulances too? Simple procedure performed thousands of times a day. The only change will be less doughnuts.

  4. Did he try the sympathy thing with Schmidt first?

  6. Really? Wow, I hadn't heard that. If that's true, that's outstanding news. I've been saying Wood for closer all offseason. I hope it works out. At the end of the game more likely means setup man for now, at least until he proves healthy enough
  7. Is his agent losing it? First he freaked out when the Giants as expected declined to offer arbitration to Bonds. Now he disses the A's now that they have turned their attention to Piazza. It looks like Bonds is going to need a second job next year to supplement (pun intended) his income.
  8. Praise the Lord, HALLELUJAH! Now if only they can swing a trade with the Bucs for Ian Snell like I've been hoping for for the past 3 weeks......... yeah, right. But what it doesn't say is the source is NSBB
  9. Do you know something that the rest of us do not?
  10. Prior opted out of his contract, so he no longer has a major league contract. I don't think Hill has a full year of service time yet; so he's ours through 2012 (if he stays in the majors other then a month or so)
  11. I wouldn't put too much stock in those reports. Why? Uh, maybe because no such offer has been made. You mean we can't believe every rumor? I'm shocked. :D Thanks for keeping us informed!
  12. Though most bonuses are spread out over the life of the contract, this one is not. It is like Sosa's last contract that the bonus was paid in full the next year. Rusch will be paid through payroll next year just like every player. How it's funded (insurance, ticket sales, loan) is an internal matter. It's still payroll for the purposes of spending. Again I would be very surprised if it exists in this case.
  13. Ramirez's Bonus is paid entirely in the first year, and are accounted for in the year they are paid, so he is at 13 for 2007 (8m salary + 5m Bonus). If they do carry insurance on Rusch, it is still part of the 2007 payroll. It's an accounting issue next year when they receive a check. It's very unlikely they do. Insuring his contract likely would have carried a 6 digit cost. They likely assumed the risk.
  14. 11.000 – Zambrano (arbitration/contract estimate) 10.000 - Lilly (pending contract 4/40 details) 3.650 - Prior 1.500 - Miller .380 – Hill (contract renewal estimate) 5 Starters at 26.530 5.333 - Dempster 3.833 - Eyre 4.500 - Howry .700 - Cotts (arbitration/contract estimate) 1.750 - Wood 1.000 - Ohman (arbitration/contract estimate) 3.250 - Rusch 7 Relievers at 20.366 4.534 - Barrett 2.550 - Blanco (estimated pending signing bonus payment details) 2 Catchers at 7.084 13.000 - Lee 4.333 – DeRosa (estimated pending contract details) 4.250 – Izturis 13.000 - Ramirez 4 Infielders at 34.583 10.000 – Soriano 5.333 - Jones .475 – Murton (contract renewal estimate) 3 Outfielders at 15.808 Total 21 players at 104.371 million
  15. I wonder how that signing bonus is allocated but as long as a large chunk of it isn't upfront it looks like we have more payroll flexibility remaining this offseason than imagined. It looks like the signing bonus will be spread accross (an assumption due to the amount matching years), so it's likely 1m a year over 8 years. 10 for 2007. That drops us from an estimated 101 mil spent for 2007 to 94 mil.
  16. Because Randy Wolf is from LA. The Cardinals and Cubs made stronger offers: I doubt the accuracy of the 3 year offers. Players don't turn down garuantees of 20 plus mil for 7.5 mil hometown discounts.
  17. Matsuzaka will end up blinking first. His Japanese team doesn't want him, they want the 51.1 mil. He is in line to only make a few mil in 2007 versus 20 or 30 mil total here. He'll take the big pay day. Boras will just take it till the final hour to wring out every last penny.
  18. About 101 mil and talk of going up to 120. viewtopic.php?t=36396
  19. It's unknown at this point. I assume the details will come out around the press conference. Initially it sounded like there were a few option years at the end, but since it's been reported as 8/136 which makes it sound garuanteed.
  20. Tough it out and JD should never be used in the same sentence.
  21. JD Drew, despite his .999 OBP only plays 100 games total in 5 years
  22. Is the rumor true that Hendry is spending Thanksgiving with him and his family? :^o
  23. The question is which Murton do we have for 2007. He had a horendous first half against righties and was at a .723 OPS clip against both. Then there was the second half Murton that was a .912 OPS hitter, including a great improvement against righties. There are 2 things working against him; developing power (though he showed it in August and September) and the right handed dominated lineup. If he can have a first half like he ended last season, he deserves playing time. If he regresses, then he deserves to be a platoon/4th outfielder type.
