  1. Does anyone else think that Castro might very easily be our best prospect. I think this season has been nothing short of spectacular. His BB/K ratio @ Tennessee is astonishing. I also think we could see him drive the ball more when he fills out better. I see a lot of Elvis Andrus in him.. Where do people think Baseball America will rank him? Do yall see them making him a top 100 list? Maybe top 50? My updated top 10 1. Vitters 2. Castro 3. J Jax 4. Ca$hner 5. B Jax 6. H lee 7. Carpenter 8. Burke 9. Flaherty 10. Lemaheiu
  2. Cant wait to see how Rhee does tonight. Would also like a nice bounceback from Kirk.
  3. Z looks good.... I wonder if he bought steak dinenrs for the kids? Or somethign nice. I like when the players on rehab assignments do that.
  4. Maybe I saw him have two bad games in a row or something but from what I saw his defense was pretty bad. you saw two bad games in a row. Apparently. Not sure where you saw us. but as I indicated earlier in this thread, this award doesn't surprise me at all... What is your opinion on Burke? You have seen him for a while? Just curious.. Thanks for all you report.
  5. :banghead: :banghead: WHY?????
  6. Frankly, I don't blame you for wondering whether Burke has finally turned the corner. There is a legitimate point in saying that this is his third go-round in the MWL and that he fell on his face both times. Yes, he was fresh out of high school in his first go-round, but remember that he was a supplemental first round pick by the Padres who was highly touted as a five tool OFer. You would expect someone like him to move quickly through a system, but he has not done that. If he produces like this next season in Daytona or Tennessee, then there will be legitimate reason to be excited. For now, cautious optimism seems to be the order of the day for him. I agree with this in its entirety. I hope the kid turns out well. But I have jsut seen this so many times with our stupid outfielder prospects.. Hopefully this kid will develop and see some time at Tennessee. We could have a very productive OF by the time Dome and Bradley are done of Soriano B Jax and Burke. If everything goes to plan.
  7. Yea he should definitely do it by plate appearences
  8. Second time in 8 days Kyler Burke is getting some love from BP - looks like the national publications are picking up on his strong season too: Burke torments my soul.. Is it that he has been there three times, or is it that he has turned a corner?? I dont know... I don't know if it ultimately matters. The first time was when he was 18 with Fort Wayne (Padres). It was ridiculous to send him there straight out of high school in the first place - especially as "raw" has he supposedly was. I think with Burke it has to keep going back to being young and inexperienced. Comparing the successes of him the last two years to a Flaherty/Jackson type is like comparing apples and oranges. Burke entered the MWL after playing four years at a high school in Southeast Tennessee. The others played at large universities in top tier conferences in college. Just my two cents. I think you are mostly correct. I really do. I am really hoping he turned a corner. That would be awesome. That is something I didnt really expect from him. I really like the coaching our kids are getting at Peoria.

  10. From Callis's Chat on ESPN
  11. We spent the fourth least of all 30 teams on our top ten selections.... http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=1763 RIP Roi.. One year ago
  12. Here is my thinking... And yall can correct me if I am wrong. I would love our infield at least next year at Tennesee to consist of Castro Flaherty Ridling and someone else.... Ridling is getting old but he has put up solid numbers in the MWL. I would like to see him skip Daytona becasue i think he has more value than opitz or anyone there. Here is the real question. I dont want to rush Vitters and nothing he has done in Daytona would merit him going to Tennesee but at the same time I would like certain prospects to grow together. Consider me on the anti-Burke Tennessee bandwagon. I think he should go to Daytona first and if he does well then he should go to the Smokies quickly. I would really like to know what the organization thinks about Flaherty in the long term. SS? 2B? 3B? He has put up a solid year and i think without a doubt he will start in Tennessee. His prospect status hasnt been diminished in any terms IMO. Also I have been really impressed with B Jax. Just me though. -Tonight was the worst night of the year. I only care about the farm at this point... p.s. Really look forward to contributing to this board!
  13. My new updated... 1. Vitters 2. Cashner 3. Castro 4. J Jax 5. B. Jax 6. H Lee 7. Carpenter 8. Flaherty 9. D.Rhee 10. Burke
  14. I am excited to think that he could be a more versatile version of derosa. Maybe even with more pop.. 20 jacks is pretty good for the MWL. But i really think we should be agressive and send him to Tennessee next year..
  15. I wouldn't even put his ceiling at Jake Fox. Ridling's never played any position but 1B and, as mentioned above, he doesn't play it particularly well. Plus, Fox actually has some semblance of patience at the plate. That's not entirely true. He played a handful of games (id say 7-10 off the top of my head) in Left last season when we had Bautista DHing and Rosa at first. He is a better defensive first baseman IMHO than Rosa. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in LF during instructs this September. The Cubs have done the same with Russ Canzler in the past. And I disagree with the other post. Rebel is fine at first. he goes to his right with range. He scoops it above average (has saved Lake probably 10-15 errors this season, and a few for Vitters too). Starts the 3-6-3 double play well. For those that have played 60 or more games this season at first base in the MWL he is 5th in fielding pct at first. Of his 12 errors, one was a horrid call at Beloit, two were on throws to a pitcher covering and two were on throws either to third or home rushing on bunts. He is a doubles machine with HR power. I think Rebel will see time in Tennessee next year and surprise some people. Thanks for the analysis. From reading all the lines that I do everyday I dont know what to make ofRebel. He seems almost too old for the level. Same with Ryan. And their numbers arent jaw dropping which concerns me
  16. Darwin Barney is probably a Theriot-level player, as well. Then there are Logan Watkins and Junior Lake, too. I am much more intrigued by Logan then Junior. I know the tools and everything are there but he K's a reeeeeal lot.. But it is still nice to have people that are toolsy and have a chance to turn out.
  17. Hak-Ju has two singles today.. Our Shortstops excite me. By my count we have at least four legit ones in DJ, Castro, Hak, and Flahery. Exciting
  18. I dont think it is falling. I jsut think that he is hurt.
  19. I like Cashner A LOT more than Shark...
  20. Welcome to the board! Thank you! Plan on contributing a lot to the minors thread and my opinions on are guys... I follow are system very tight... I have been so happy about Cashner and Castro this year. Still cant believe Castro is in AA. If he finishes well get ready
  21. Midwest League Player of the Week last week: Tyler a fourth outfielder? I dont like Rebel FWIW
  22. Is Castro top 50 top 75? Seriously he has put up better numbers than andrus did and he is younger... And andrus was so high... I am glad we promoted him.. Gotta challenge a kid. I revise my top two. Cashner Castro.
  23. Hey yall! Long time reader first time poster. Love following the Cubs minor leagues and have really liked what I have seen from the farm this year. If I had to take a guess i would say the following would be the list. 1. Cashner (Just a great year all around) 2. Vitters (Great start not so hot since Daytona came) 3. Castro (Awesome year. He has put up better offensive numbers than Andrus did and they ranked him sooooo high) 4. Jackson, J. (I could see them taking a swipe at "makeup concerns") 5. Carpenter (Been really good. Hopefully he has a strong finish in Tennessee) 6. Jackson, B. (Will like his On base skills and hopefully he finishes off the year well in Peoria) 7. Lee (great tools and is so fast. A little more power would be nice but no reason to believe he wont be able to fill out with his frame.) 8. DJ (Good numbers since coming out of the Bayou) 9. Flaherty (Has done alright for a pitchers league. After rough start. I could be over-rating) 10. Rhee (With good instrucrts) Missing cut Antigua, Coleman, Burke
