  1. I'm all for giving this a shot. Ryan was pretty lights out for a period of time. If he can get some of that magic back he will help this club a great deal.
  2. Marmol was a former catcher as well. :)
  3. Soriano will receive $18 million in 2014, when he turns 39 years of age. Nice one Hendry.
  4. Check out the comments by Lou that I found when the Cubs signed Soriano. Cubs manager Lou Piniella said he plans to bat Soriano leadoff. "He likes the leadoff spot and there is none better," Piniella said in an interview with WGN Radio. He called Soriano "a young man who can get on base and steal some bases and hit the ball for extra base power and hit it for a homer. We are talking about the best leadoff hitter in all of baseball." I'm not so sure that was true even back then. :-k
  5. What if Soriano is older than it appears? http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AmBy4Syqz3ikyprDr.oH.R4RvLYF?slug=ti-vladage030609&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
  6. His ERA is the highest it's ever been by far. Currently it sits at 5.47 and his rookie season of 4.46 was his highest. He also carries a 1.541 WHIP and is giving up 9.5 hits per 9 innings. It's safe to say he's either in a massive funk, or the injuries are taking their toll on him. He's not the same pitcher this year at all.
  7. Baker isn't much better than Freel. I'm so glad Hendry decided the Cubs needed a change at 2nd in the offseason.
  8. This division in there for the taking this year and these nagging injuries keep coming up. Very frustrating.
  9. Soriano needs to shut up and produce. He's one overpaid baby.
  10. 2009: $5 million, 2010: $9 million, 2011: $12 million. Is he worth keeping with all those jumps in pay? I suppose one could say Hendry is a fool for spreading the money like that, but that's another story.
  11. Bradley has been terrible overall this season. Bust City considering the other two guys Hendry could have signed. If he doesn't improve over the second half of the season, the Cubs needs to let him go. His attitude, defense, and hitting have been pretty poor so far. He's not worth the money being paid to him and the Cubs are already wasting money on Soriano. They can't let him go but they can dump Bradley and his contract if he doesn't preform up to standard.
  12. Excellent choices. I agree the Cubs needs to DFA Miles.
  13. .143 as a Cub for the old batting average.
  14. Samardzija should be sent down to work as a starter but you know they will carry 12 pitchers.
  15. Put Fox in left and sit Soriano until Fox can't hit anymore.
  16. Fuld and Patton? Makes sense to me, although I'd like to see Fuld stay up for a bit since Soriano can't hit and there is no true lead-off guy.
  17. He and Randy Johnson should conduct a hitting camp.
  18. I think Font kept his position on the Cubs safe this weekend. I wonder who goes down when Reed and ARam return tomorrow then?
  19. I'm really starting to dislike Soriano.
  20. Its over Chestnut won He set the world record also. 68 dogs.
  21. The thing is, on paper, Hendry didnt put together a bad team, not this bad anyway. Granted, he over paid for these players, but they're still good players that should be scoring runs. Theres no point firing Hendry now, not until the off season anyway. Its not like firing him will undo the moves he made. I agree with this completely. Definitely. If Hendry is to be fired the time to do it is in the offseason. And I really hope to God that anyone who wants Lou fired seriously does not want Brenly to replace him. Why Brenley? If be all for giving Trammel a chance though. His one chance as a manager was with an awful Tigers team, and it wasnt until Leyland took over that they decided they wanted to put a real team together. Trammel got shafted. As for Hendry, while I dont agree with many of his moves, theres no way that he or anyone would have predicted the kind of production, or rather lack there of from Bradley, Soriano, Fukudome, Soto, and even Fontenot. Remember, when Font was putting up huge spring training numbers, people werent missing DeRosa. It wasnt until Ramirez went down and Font turned to crap that the DeRosa trade became the worst trade in baseball history since Babe Ruth. Did you think Fontenot was really capable of being a starter in the majors? Adam Dunn was my first choice and I still don't understand why he wasn't signed. Bradley isn't the best on defense either.
