  1. Well, they got a ring out of it. Worked out pretty well for them in '05. Pods was also pretty damn clutch in the postseason, if you'll recall. That ring might have had something to do with their fantastic pitching. That Pods-led offense was pretty mediocre, even in the postseason. The pitching was fantastic. No argument there. But mediocre? Really? In 12 games (49 ABs), he hit .286 with a .375 OBP and a .551 SLG, had 2 HRs (1 was a walkoff in the World Series btw), 1 double, 3 triples, 6 SB, 6 RBIs, and scored 9 runs. Maybe he should've tried harder during the regular season. He finished 12th in MVP voting. They won their first World Series in 88 years. Sounds like you're complaining for the sake of complaining.
  2. On some level, guys should be judged by postseason performance. Ramirez and Soriano have disappeared the last 2 postseasons. Two players who are absolutely crucial to the offense. Where were they? Grabbing bench, that's where. Is it a coincidence the Cubs got swept both years?
  3. Normally, I'd agree. But unless the Cubs magically get Peavy, they'll still need a 5th starter.

There's also something to be said for chemistry, something no one has mentioned yet.
  5. You can't argue with the results. Kenny Williams blows Jim Hendry out of the water.

  7. Anyone think it would be possible to steal one of Minnesota's starters? Blackburn, Slowey, and Perkins seem to have a lot of potential.
  8. The Sox needed speed and a table setter. They had more than enough power to fill the void left by Lee. Pods was a good fit. Trading DeRosa was unnecessary and it will come back to bite the Cubs in the ass, unless Fontenot rises to the occasion. The minor league pitchers the Cubs got in return for DeRosa won't do a damn thing for the team THIS SEASON. So unless they're rebuilding again, what was the point of the trade?
  9. Ah, gotcha. Well, then maybe the Padres will be more amenable and not ask for an arm and a leg for Peavy.
  10. Huh? Peavy isn't a free agent, what does his agent have to do with whether the Cubs can get him? And Sheets is a free agent, so Brewers wouldn't exactly be giving him to the Cubs. I could be wrong, but isn't a player's agent still heavily involved in trade talks? You're right about Sheets, but it would be a huge slap in the face to Brewers fans if he went to the Cubs.
  11. If that's the case, reminds me of Paxson obstinately not wanting to give up Deng for Bryant. :banghead:
  12. The prospect of getting Peavy makes fans salivate, but it looks like that has fallen through completely. Maybe Axelrod will be more amenable once the season starts (assuming Peavy hasn't signed with anybody else by then). I think going after Meche or Greinke is sound. The Royals have never been opposed to letting talent go. Damon, Dye, Beltran... the list goes on. I'd certainly take Sheets, but let's face it: the Brewers would be crazy to give him up to their division rivals.
  13. So they save $4.875 on this one, but are down one starter and up one more mediocre reliever. Exactly. Marquis has never been lights out, but I have a feeling fans will regret this trade later this season.
  14. Eh, it was a small mistake. I've moved on. So should you.
  15. You shouldn't be content with just making the postseason. The last 2 seasons were abysmal failures. Getting swept in the NLCS by 2 teams that didn't even make it to the World Series is embarassing.
  16. Do the research, soapy. And for your information, my grandma can do 3 chin-ups. No embellishment. Mark Prior's arm would fall off if he tried. Slight embellishment.
  17. My thoughts as well. which means they have nothing to do with Hendry, thus weakening your original argument It also means he's a puppet. So, what's better? A puppet or an incompetent GM?
  18. At least five members have been incredibly rude to me from the get-go. I'm issued a warning for fighting fire with fire. It's beyond ridiculous. Guess if you're not in a clique or a longstanding member, you're not allowed to defend yourself.
  19. Comparing Barry Bonds to Mark Prior... nice try?
  20. I didn't say anything that wasn't warranted. The next time you feel the need to mock someone for no good reason, hopefully you'll think twice about it.
  21. The fans have spoken. ...And have been ignored.
  22. How's that Kool-Aid taste?
