  1. Any chance Cashner gets called up in September? If not I expect him to get a good look in ST next year and at the very least be up sometime in early summer next year.
  2. Lackey is the "ace" of the Angels. i can't imagine him coming cheap 4/48 or 5/55-60 isn't that "cheap" and he hasn't been a ace the last 2 years, he's been closer to a #2 than an ace. He's been hurt both years and has been off and on, especially this year. But I am still a big fan when he is pitching to his abilities, like he has been over the last month or so. But I agree with you that he will have the perception this offseason of being the Angels ace the last 3-5 years and someone will probably offer him a 5-6 year deal for 13+ mil. a year.
  3. I know it's great to dream big about trading for King Felix, but it's not very realistic IMO. I would think it would be more realistic if we let Harden go (or if we keep him sign him cheaply) and sign Lackey to a Lowe/Lilly/Meche type contract.
  4. So who goes down tomorrow to make rome for Gorzelanny? Hopefully it's Samardzija, but it will probably be Stevens.
  5. Brian Roberts and Jake Peavy were both signing GO CUBS GO!!! in a bar just before this trade fell through...
  6. I am guessing it had something to do that through 3 innings he had given up 5 H, 2 HBP, and 29 of his 54 pitches were for strikes.
  7. Unless Soto dropped 15-20 LBS. I really don't care. He's going to be a minor upgrade at best above Koye, if he didn't drop some weight.
  8. I can't believe Selig/Commissioners office isn't catching more heat for this. The absolutely f'd up with this "anonymous" testing and nobody seems to be calling Selig or his cronies out.
  9. Agreed, probably gave up a bit too much but they needed to get a LH reliever. It's them and the Phillies 1/2 in the NL right now and you need lefties to match up against them come October it's Def. a move looking ahead into October and not just for the rest of the season.
  10. Could it be they felt there was something mechanically wrong with him and that he was suited to go down to Daytona to work on it? Maybe there is a specific coach there that they feel works best with him or something along those lines.
  11. That's why I'm not calling it a good deal. Hendry got good value for DeRosa, but it's easily debatable that he should have kept DeRo since we're trying to win the WS now. Had he signed someone like Orlando Hudson after trading DeRosa, though, that deal looks better. The only thing that makes it look bad is that we signed Miles to replace DeRo. Stevens is contributing right now and might be a bullpen arm in the playoffs this year. Gaub might see the majors in September when rosters expand - so it wasn't only a long term trade. That's the issue, I think everyone agrees we got good value for him. But the problem is who we have used/gotten to replace him.
  12. What???? Umm... The Cubs play the Marlins next in Miami... Yeah, but it was reported he was starting out in AAA, maybe the Shark is also getting sent down?
  13. I wouldn't be surprised if the move is Grabow becomes the Loogy, Marshall becomes available to be a 1-2 inning pitcher out of the pen, Atkins down and Gorzelanny to the rotation.
  14. totally agree...but i think they are targeting middle infielders currently Lee and Castro are MI
  15. I think it's a little over the top to say the trade will be "historically" bad if it's just for Grabow, I doubt we have to give up Jackson/Carpenter level pitching prospect.
  16. The morons going to send Jackson and Fox to the Pirates for these 2 pieces of crap, isnt he? Goony mentioned earlier in the thread that the Fox for a reliever rumor was brought up by a caller. And who brought up Jackson? If we are going to give up Jackson I would hope we could at least get Duke or Maholm. I still don't want to get rid of him and the only thing I would really want to trade him for would be in a package for a Peavy/Halladay level pitcher.
  17. Im telling you, take away Gallardo and Hoffman and you have the Nationals, who appear poised to sweep them in their own house. I bet theres a whole lot of booing goin on. Yeah they are playing bad but that statement is so wrong I don't know where to start. I went to the game last night, friend has season tickets behind home plate, and the atmosphere was anemic. The place was pretty much cleared out by the 7th and the only times the fans got real loud was when they booed.
  18. I am pretty sure he played there last year for sometime when Ankiel got hurt.
  19. Here's a link http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/giants/detail?&entry_id=44521 I think Alderson is a little much, given Sanchez's contract, health and the fact that if he isn't hitting for average he doesn't do much else offensively.
  20. You mean when we get John Grabow and Jack Wilson for Jay Jackson, Chris Carpenter, and Starlin Castro? Wouldn't doubt that move, I would prefer something more like Castro, Ascanio/Hart, and Josh Harrison for Duke/Maholm and Sanchez. I think that's a fairly reasonable deal for both sides.
  21. Because that seems to be the exact type of reliever the Cubs love for some reason, they are brought in to be used as something when their splits show they should be used in a different way and they all have problems throwing strikes. This is nothing new.
  22. That's pretty much the way I feel, Grabow isn't going to put us over the top. IDK why we are so set on getting a lefty in the pen, Marshall has been great as our loogy and Lou seems reluctant to use him in any other role so what would that mean for Marshall? If we would take on the remainder of Sanchez's contract I think we could work Grabow into a deal.
