  1. that was very odd. Nice game, Lilly.
  2. pulled Ward off the base I mean hof
  3. Pretty good considering his horrible April. If you take out his April, what's his ERA this year? If you take out his first four starts (the last two in April were pretty good with 6 innings in each and 1 and 2 ER's allowed), his ERA is 3.65. May was also the month he gave up the second most runs.
  4. Fielder just keeps swinging at those pitches at his shoulders or higher.
  5. Why is fielder swinging at every high fastball he sees?
  6. I wonder: is that flukey, or just a sign that you're facing a pitcher having a terrible game?
  7. Not to beat a horse that has been dead quite some time, but why the hell did they choose to DFA Eyre instead of Howry? Eyre is only sporting a 221 ERA+ since his arrival in Philly. I swear to God, if Eyre ends up screwing us sometime this playoffs... It was very clear from Lou's quotes throughout the season that he respected Howry's work ethic and attitude and did not feel the same way about Eyre. If you remember, one of the reason Eyre came here was that Dusty was the manager and I think he said something along the lines of liking Dusty because he didn't make him run during spring training. If Lou doesn't like a guy, history shows that he will get his way and that guy will be out the door sooner or later. I think it wound up being later since Eyre was so effective the second half of '07 into the start of '08 when he came back from the DL. Once he started pitching like Howry (word editor), starting with the Crawford grand slam in TB, Lou wasted no time in showing him the exit. It is, in other words, a detailed example of why major league managers are really bad at their jobs compared to people in other 7 figure a year positions.
  8. babies should have good enough instincts to not cry when they're exhausted instead of sleeping.
  9. Marmol coming in now=lou wants to get swept?
  10. first time that Fielder didn't swing at a pitch at his neck all day.
  11. For the "fastest ever" yes, it's probably not just impossible to find #1, but even to list a top 50. It's just feels remarkable that we have a top 3 that seems like it's a full 2 seconds faster two first base from home (were we to have a relay competition) than a lot of other teams. for all the expansion of stats over the past few decades, the home to first speed of pitchers has been ignored (not without good reason, of course)
  12. Harden is clearly a pretty good runner and much faster than the average pitcher. I was wondering, just how fast is he? Between Z/H/M, do the Cubs have the fastest three starters ever?
  13. the brewers are the only team in contention (twins/sox/mets/brew) for a spot not losing by 3+ runs at the moment
  14. I'm confused. Have you encountered deboned moose?
  15. look at that blubber fly! (I think that's the line)
  16. That had nothing to do with avoiding injury, he just flat out blew it. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here. He probably wasn't thinking about injury, but I simply will not complain about how that ended up. Fielder has been terrible today
  17. Hard to complain about Soriano's defense there, unless he wasn't trying to make sure he didn't hurt himself
  18. I don't think I've seen a player end a play sitting on the knee of another like that before. edit: ok, he didn't really sit
  19. the throw went home on a single to right, he tried to get to second, thrown out.
