It was depressing to see Lou leave the game on such a sour note with this horrible AAA team. I think he did a fine job,had a fine career, and will be harder to replace than many think. I wish him the best in his retirement. It was depressing to see Nady attempting to play first after watching D Lee make it look easy for so many years. It was depressing to watch Hendry publicly diss Alan Trammel. There have been many years where the Cubs made me angry, but this year is just depressing. Poor Quade. Talk about a no win situation. I wish Ryne Sandberg the best of luck next year, he will certainly need it.

I am pretty sure Kerry Wood does not share your sentiment Kyle. And Rob, I did not call GR moronic, only his post. Much less of a personal attack than calling someone a troll, don't you think ? And feel fee to save your humanity for a good cause. I know you really are trying to make a bold statement when you proclaim you are putting someone on ignore, but trust me, nobody cares. Why do you even bother telling people ? The fact that Lou is arguably the best manager the Cubs have had in decades is certainly a valid point to bring up in a thread titled " Fire Lou Piniella " and you all know it. Of course it doesn't mean he should never be replaced, but it is every bit as valid as saying Geovany Soto is the best Cubs catcher in some time. The fact that there might be a couple of better catchers in the game doesnt mean we should get rid of him. Or maybe it does using some of your logic.Lets start a thread about it. It also establishes a pattern of the Cubs tendancy to hire horrible managers, a trend I fear will continue when Piniella retires.

How about this, there is a very good chance he is a better manager than his soon to be replacement. That's a much better argument. I don't know or care of it's correct or not, but at least it's in the realm of where the argument should be had. Fine. I promise to let the sometimes ridiculous Lou bashing continue with no further input from me until Ryne Sandberg is officially named the new manager of the Chicago Cubs.

Calling everyone you are afraid to confront a troll is pretty easy to see through Rob. Besides, I thought you put me on "ignore". To those who at least typed an intelligent response, I don't even like Lou Piniella that much. I was simply trying to point out that he really is the best manager the Cubs have had in years. I really dont think that is disputable. I think the fact that he doesnt throw his hat, or kick dirt on the umpires anymore is mistaken for him " mailing it in" . Oh well, it has been yet another tough season to be a Cubs fan, so I guess the blame needs to land somewhere. At least go up a few posts and click the link for the Lee Elia tirade. " Eighty-five percent of the f in' world is working. The other fifteen percent come out here." Classic.

While that may all be true, I'd prefer to play Soto more earlier in the season when it's cooler and we're not out of it yet (and not bat him 7th or 8th). Especially in years like this, where the team is out of it in July, if not before, you start resting him more. Makes even more sense b/c of the heat of day games in July and August. I think Lou pretty much F'd this up as best as he could without going to a strict platoon for 4 months of the year. It's pretty much what I expect from Lou at this point. His handling of Soto is a significant factor in my wanting him to have been fired for most of this season (if not before). I wish Lou would get fired too . That way they could bring in another great manager like the ones they have had in the past. You know, guys like Dusty Baker, Don Baylor, Jim Riggleman, Jim Lefebvre, or the king of the stats,and all around brainiac, Don Zimmer. You know that your post lacks any sort of rational logic whatsoever, so why would you type it? My post is every bit as logical as your post proclaiming Lou's handling of Soto being a significant factor in firing Lou. Wanting to fire the best manager the Cubs have had in years over one thing you disagree with is past shortsighted, it is moronic. I would expect a much more intelligent post from a site moderator. Think before you type.

How about Tom Trebelhorn. Jim Frey was an idiot. Lee Elia. Herman Franks. Lou may not be the greatest, but he is the best manager the Cubs have had in a really,really long time. Oh well, soon everyone will be able to chant RYNO RYNO again. That should make everybody happy.

Sadly, the above pretty well sums it up. The song is a little cheesy, but I liked Steve Goodman, he was a huge Cubs fan, so I vote it stays. Besides, they could have used his " Dying Cubs Fan Last Request" a much better song, but hardly the uplifting anthem you want your kids singing after the rare Cubs wins.

I suppose we could make this thread even more ridiculous by getting into an I say, you say debate regarding that, but frankly I have better things to do . I will say I can come up with something better than your "he can't hit so " scenario, which is pretty weak by any standards, but I am perfectly content in this futile discussion with "trust me, I know I'm right ".

I NEVER said Hill should be in the lineup over Soto, quite the opposite if you read . I simply said he was a better defensive catcher, which I still believe. If you feel he is not, I am pretty sure I can cope with that. Even though you will be wrong.

And how nice that you won't debate Hill vs. Soto on defense after you make the ridiculous declaration that Hill is a significantly better defensive catcher. First, Fontenot hit for Soto, not Hill. Not that it makes any difference. But if you want to blame Lou for meaningless actions, uh,you probably should at least get it right. Uh, no. Hill is marginally better on defense at best, and nowhere near being better enough to justify all the times Soto's been switched out for him during a game. Uh ??? Is the uh just for emphisis, or does it add value to the discussion ? Or do you preface your spoken sentences with uh ? I am not going to debate Hill vs Soto on defense, and I already stated that Soto should get the bulk of the playing time. My point, as I am sure you all are capable of understanding, yet chose to ignore, is that Soto blows a very easy play, Marmol implodes, yet you all pop off about Lou Piniella. Soto and Marmol sucked yesterday,and blew the game, not Lou. At least they were both man enough to own up to it. Complaining about Lou after yesterdays fiasco just makes you look foolish.

reading is a skill. wells STUCK UP for soto - said that you're bracing for the collision, and soto rushed it - i don't think he was afraid of getting hit. piniella is a dick for throwing him under the bus in the press conference, just like he's a dick for continuing to play his boy koyie hill, who hits like some of us would, instead of one of the more productive catchers in baseball. he's a bad manager and i can't wait for him to be gone. Reading between the lines is the real skill. Why does Wells even bring up the collision aspect if he does't think it was crutial to the outcome of the play ? Soto was afraid of being hit, and botched a very routine play. End of story. Marmol then decided to do his best Carlos Zambrano impersonation, and fall apart. That damn Lou . Soto should be getting the bulk of the playing time because of his bat, and has lately. But anyone who thinks Hill is not markedly better on defense is only fooling themselves.

You know some pretty smart 12 year olds who are talking about ISoP I can distinctly remember sitting in my attic with cards laid out and and subtracting AVG from SLG. The best of these would be my "Sluggers" when arranging my cards into batting orders. I had no idea it had a name, it just seemed like something worth doing. I'd also subtract AVG from OBP to "see who walked alot" amongst those with decent averages. EDIT: This may have been later. Thinking back, I imagine lots of kids did very similar things. Why were you sitting in the attic ?

Lou's not to blame for Lee and Ramirez hitting like crap all year, or Zambrano having another meltdown, but Jim Hendry is? For a guy that chastises others for looking for a scapegoat of some sort, you sure seem to be looking for a scapegoat of some sort. So you dont think the bloated contracts and no trade clauses ala Jim Hendry have more to do with the failure of this years Cubs than the fact Hill is getting a few extra starts a month ? I'd rank the reasons for the failure of this year's Cubs as follows: 1) the under-performance of the players on the roster (Lee Ramirez Zambrano Grabow etc.) 2) the way the roster has been managed (Lou -- lineups, bullpen management, etc.) 3) the way the roster has been assembled (Hendry -- contracts, NTCs etc.) So it's nonsensical for you to absolve Lou because it's not his fault that the players aren't producing, but then turn around and blame Hendry. Hendry has even less to do with that. Your mini-rant about finding a scapegoat just made it even more amusingly hypocritical. LOL. I was done with this thread, but this post is really just too ridiculous to let pass. I am guessing you did not bother to re-read what you wrote. 1 " Under-performance of the players on the roster" and 3 " The way the roster has been assembled" I won't even insult the other readers by pointing out just how foolish this is.
