    Ugh...at least we get one playoff game in Milwaukee. Hopefully that memory can last us for another 26 years.

    There's some whispering on Brewerfan about J.J. Hardy potentially being out for this series after injuring it during last night's celebration at home after Braun's walkoff. If it's true... :bye: playoff hopes. Sveum would likely stick Counsell in at shortstop, completely ignore the fact he has Alcides Escobar on his roster, and play Mike Lamb over Russell Branyan at third base.

    If Milwaukee got in, they'd play the Phillies, assuming they don't choke away the NL East. Considering how things went there a week or two ago, I can't say they'd have a great chance at making it out of the first round. But weirder things have happened in the LDS before.

    I'd agree with this. The only question is in which order do the Mets lose two of three? If the Brewers lose Friday night and the Mets win, the city of Milwaukee could be in full meltdown mode.

    In additioning to untucking the jersey, Braun held a pose that would've made A-Ram blush. Then, in the post-game interview when he was asked if he was lacking in confidence at the plate lately, he followed all that up with this gem: "I don't need more confidence. I'll never need more confidence." If he wasn't a Brewer, I think I'd definitely hate him too. Hell, even now his "confidence" is a little much for me to handle, and I've always kind of been annoyed with his canned responses to questions, whether it be postgame interviews or sitting down with Jim Rome.

    If this game against the Mets is rained out and not rescheduled, there would be some groaning from Milwaukee, but it'd be pretty dumb. None of this would've mattered if they didn't completely crap the bed to start the month. As far as I'm concerned, us Brewer fans should be more upset about Fielder scuffling until that Cubs series, Hart becoming a black hole in the second half of the season, Braun likely playing at less than 100%, Yost torpedoing another season, and Sheets going down at the worst possible time. This game not being rescheduled should be like #15 on a list of things to be upset about. It would definitely suck, but it's really the Brewers' own fault that they got themselves into this mess. Edit: FWIW, Houston's elimination number is 2, so they could possibly be eliminated tonight. They're facing Cueto tonight with Oswalt on the mound, though, so I don't know how likely that is. They'll likely be gone by the weekend, though.

    Speculation is that Gallardo would only go 3 or 4 innings, since no one knows if his knee would be able to handle much more than that right now. His last simulated game he threw 75 pitches, but I'd be surprised if they let him throw that many on Thursday. I'm fine with giving him one turn through the order, then letting DiFelice or Villanueva piggyback off him for another 3 innings or so. It can't hurt to try to get him a start against a pretty punchless Pirates team. Sabathia pitched pretty poorly early on and still ended up with 7 IP and around 10 strikeouts.

    The prevailing sentiment on brewerfan seems to be a combination of "Well, we have no other choice after failing to even break .500 in September" and "Who the hell else are we going to start, Jeff freaking Suppan?" The Brewers really backed themselves into a corner by completely blowing it against teams like the Padres and Reds earlier this month. Now they need Sabathia to be consistently good while being consistently tired just to make it to the playoffs, even if it means him being overused and pitching badly once they get there. It's incredibly frustrating that all the Brewers really had to do this month was break even, and they would have cruised to the wildcard spot. Now they're stuck in a game of "Who Sucks the Least?" with the Mets.

    Jolbert Cabrera joins the Upper Deck parade, homering off Parra. I'm not listening to the Brewers' radio broadcast, but I imagine that when Uecker comes back on the air he'll sound a lot like Harry Doyle during an Indians losing streak. "And the Brewers just got their leadoff man on. I think I'll wet myself."

    The best part? After Sheets only went 2 innings and the extra-inning game yesterday, the Brewers pretty much have no choice but to let Suppan stay out there for 6 innings or so.

    From what I've heard, he was pretty bad the entire game today. Missing lots of calls, confusing one player for another, not really explaining what's going on, etc. I think it's fair to say the past couple of seasons are slowly killing him, and it's kind of sad to see him slip like this. While it sucks for me seeing the Brewers tank like this, I'm only 20...there's a good chance I'll see another good Brewers team in my lifetime. Time's kinda running out for Ueck to call one last postseason.

    If the Brewers had won this game, it would've been an insult to all that is good and just in this world. Way too many stupid baserunning mistakes, dumb AB's, horrible pitch location, and bad fielding to deserve to win this game. I'll be shocked if the Cubs don't win the World Series...they're better than any other team I've seen this year. (Of course, it doesn't help that Dale Sveum leaves Counsell and Kendall in to bat with the infield drawn in, knowing full well that neither of them can hit the ball in the air, but that's ranting that's better placed on a Brewers board)

    Burnett got 11/55 a couple years ago, with his history. No doubt Sheets would get probably 4/60. That the sort of move the Orioles would make. Houston's a good possibility -- they don't seem to be too worried about spending money, Sheets has always loved the Houston area because it's so close to Louisiana, and he's very good friends with Oswalt from their Team USA days.

    Pitching a complete game 1-0 shutout with a bad elbow is a far cry from being a wuss. Really, I want to know what the hell Yost was thinking letting him throw 110-120 pitches per start despite knowing about this. No wonder he got fired. If Sheets can't make another start, the Brewers are toast. It's awfully tough to make the postseason when your rotation to end the year is Sabathia-McClung-Suppan-Bush-DiFelice. Wow, I totally didn't realize Parra was pulled too. Yeah, one of Sveum's first "personnel" announcements was that he was taking Parra out of the rotation. It's probably for the best -- he's never pitched this many innings before and has a history of legit arm injuries (not the Sheets-like "tight" muscles), and was extremely ineffective in September (something like a 10.00 ERA). Of course, if Sheets has to miss a start or two, Parra may end up going right back into the rotation, since he's the only guy who's stretched out enough to start effectively. At this point, DiFelice can probably only go 3-4 innings, so you'd have to piggyback him with another long man.

    So Dale Sveum is batting Mike Cameron and his .335 OBP leadoff tonight. :blink: CF Mike Cameron 2B Ray Durham LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder SS JJ Hardy RF Corey Hart 3B Craig Counsell C Jason Kendall P CC Sabathia I get the feeling the next 12 games for the Brewers are going to be the weirdest in recent memory in terms of lineups and in-game changes, just because Sveum is trying to "shake things up."
