  1. Vitters isn't going to sweeten anything, and Olt is far more valuable than anything the Yankees are likely to include in a Soriano trade (although I'd love to be wrong on that). At this stage, Valbuena would be more of a sweetener than Vitters, no?
  2. He posted it in the context of a larger piece and did so to address comments by one of the, if not the, most visible baseball writer in America. Why are you annoyed exactly? If you havent noticed yet, Brett has a new post for every new piece of information that is Cubs related. He had to have over 100 posts on the Wrigley Field renovation.
  3. Lets say the Cubs were acquring a guy like Garza and trading the proespects you mentioned...give me a scenario of what that trade would look like... Alcantara, Szczur, and Hendricks? Pierce, Villanueva, Al Cabrera?
  4. We'll see what Soler does in August and in the fall league. Right now, I still say no. Whats everyones predictions for the Fall League rosters?
  5. Well thats a sigh of relief. Glad that injury scare is behind him.
  6. I am assuming he wont be in the lineup today? On a sidenote, when minor leaguers get called up do they get to fly to their next destination? I know most every team has to travel by bus to away games, was not sure about individual cases like this one.
  7. I would assume he can fit into most windows. OK, I'll bite. What makes you think he is going to be such a star? The .260 average or 2 homeruns?
  8. Not sure how Camp has been a complete "whiff", he did put up a 1.14 ERA+ in 80 appearances last year on a $550k salary. Scott Baker's tenure with the Cubs is far from a "whiff", I would assume theres a decent chance he will be back with the club next year. Manny Corpas...really!?!? And as noted by many, Volstad for Zambrano was trash for trash. It should by no means be considered a "whiff".
  9. No, not even a little. Wood, Feldman, Maholm, Villanueva and Gregg HAVE to give you faith they can find under the radar, cheap yet effective pitching options.
  10. Haven't Theo and Co. done enough in their short time here to gain our trust with these moves? They apparently like what they see in quite a few IFA's else they wouldn't waste the time trading for additional cap space. I'm sure they have had scouts at various MLB/MiLB games for at least a month now, I think I will trust their opinion over a shitty looking chart.
  11. I would consider it a vindication of the investment the Cubs put into him if he gave them a Reed Johnson type player off the bench. But can he be more than that? If the Cubs like what they see from Ryan Sweeney from here on out, possibly a platoon partner with him next year?
  12. Why is that exactly? Both more advanced and more athletic. Candelario is barely hanging on at 3b as it is. Your wide range of knowledge on nearly every prospect in the system is both amazing and amusing.
  13. Heard from a good source that the Cubs worked out junior college freshman Nick Gardewine today. http://stats.njcaa.org/sports/bsb/2012-13/div1/players/nickgardewinephkq We are from the same home town, Effingham IL, but do not know much more about him. Source said he hit 95 mph on the gun today quite a few times.
  14. I know Kyler Burke isn't age appropriate for Daytona, but is he someone to keep an eye on for a big league bullpen spot? Even though he's a little older, there is not much mileage on his arm.
  15. Wow, thats some fairly high praise for Soler, especially since Appel is already projected to be a TOR type guy.
  16. There's no way this is true, right? Am I reading it wrong? Maybe its supposed to say "The Ravens are the only other NFL team to sign all of their picks"? Although just found this article... http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2013/05/detroit_lions_announce_signing_1.html
  17. Carrie Muskat ‏@CarrieMuskat 39m #Cubs making major cuts today. Stay tuned
  18. Evan Rodriguez arrested in Miami last night: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/21/evan-rodriguez-arrested-in-miami/
  19. Yeah, all joking aside about Saunders, he was holding his own in Daytona. Maybe they want him to get regular ABs? My guess is they want him to play SS regularly every day. From memory, I believe he was mainly playing 3B in Daytona.
  20. He has no role as a starter on a team because he can't hit lefties and he's not particularly good against righties, plus the defensive limitations. Just because he has no role as a starter on the team does not mean he should be released. There is such a thing as a useful bench player. See: Campana, Tony
  21. Unfortunately, if the Cubs offered Dempster $12.5 million arbitration in the offseason, he would likely accept it. Could be a VERY interesting atmosphere at Wrigley on Tuesday if Dempster is the Cubs starting pitcher.
  22. I am sure the Cubs could donate a million to his charity if that would persuade him.
  23. Saw on an earlier tweet that it was a ground ball that took a bad hop, not a straight line drive to the noggin.
  24. Why not just hold on to Dempster and take the draft picks at the end of the year? Its apparent Theo and co. are not enamored with any of the prospects being offered. Or are they worried Dempster would accept the arbitration offer?
  25. One of the, if not the, best defensive infielders of our generation? Its funny when I read an asinine post I automatically know who posted it. No one is offering a front end starter for Barney. He is a guy who will be far more valuable to us for the next 3 to 4 years as a above average 2B than a trade piece. No one is calling Theo and offering a top 3 organizational prospect for Barney, as much as we all like him. Dont forget earlier this year alot of people were asking for him to be replaced.
