The worst part of baseball is that there's no bargaining, no forecasting ahead. You can't say 'This is going to happen in October. Would you be okay with that?' In the moment, looking ahead, after we clinched the NLDS against the Cardinals, we were all elated. We didn't know how the NLCS would shape up, but we wished for and hoped the best because we are an awesome team that could win, and frankly speaking, deserved to go all the way. And then the harsh, unpredictable nature of reality struck, and the dream fell flat on its face. Overall, I'm happy with how this season turned out. And I'm bummed out that poor fortune screwed us yet again. Just keep in mind, we're not the only ones. Look at the A's last year. Look at the Royals in the World Series running into the MadBum buzzsaw. Look at the Astros this year, two innings away from advancing before KC's miraculous comeback. Look at the Rangers this year after being a game away from advancing their Cinderella season, and in 2011, were one strike away twice[/] from riding on top of the world. They have way more of a claim that a title was stolen from them than we do. Look at the 2007 Padres, who missed the playoffs because their Hall of Fame closer blew two games in a row. Look at the 2012 Reds, who collapsed just like the Rangers after winning their first two DS road games. Hell, look at the 2004 Yankees, whose opponents had to do something that literally had never happened in baseball before to crush their dreams. Many teams go into the playoffs. All but one go home, heartbroken, some in crueler ways than others. Every fan of good teams has to learn to deal with heartbreak. But them being there means they have a chance, and that chance is better than sitting on your couch in October. Some of those teams don't even know if they'll have a good chance of being back again next year. This team is good. This team is going to have their shot. Ideally, many, many times, and that's way better than having a shot in the dark every five years. Let's all look ahead, smile, and wait for winter to pass.
