I think with this move we are seeing them take a very legitimate run at success this year while reloading for 2013-5. They have basically used LaPorta in return for two high draft picks next year that MAY be ready for the majors in 2012. They have already basically said that they won't sign Sheets in the offseason. So they will end up with 4 compensatory picks to go with their own in next year's draft. Couple that with them almost assuredly being sellers next July (Fielder to NYY?) and they should be set up very nicely to make another run in 5 or 6 years if they draft/trade wisely. Conversely, in the interim the Cubs should own the division with almost everyone at or slightly past their prime. I would expect them to reload and be sort of like St Louis is right now as Milwaukee rises back up. On multiple levels this trade makes a lot of sense for the Brewers. The only drawback is whether they are willing to deplete their system to fix the bullpen in the coming weeks.
