  1. The following moves have been made in the last 24 HRs: 1. FA Milton Bradley signed to an unknown deal with the Cubs 2. Marquis and $1M traded to the Rockies for Luis Vizcaino 3. FA Aaron Miles signed to a two year, $4.9 M contract 4. Mark DeRosa traded to the Indians for 3 minor league pitchers Unfortunately, it doesnt seem like DeRo has been moved for any players from "the Peavy mix" even though trade talks are reportedly back on. I'm not sure exactly what the team is trying to set up, but Fontenot at 2B would be a decent and cheap option if he could only learn how to walk. Furthermore, is Theriot on his way out to the Pads if the talks for Peavy are back on now that the Cubs have Miles, who also walks less by comparison but at least has some sense of defensive range?
  2. To quote Conan Obrien: "THAT WAS NO STRIKE!"
  3. ideal line up that will never happen ever for tomorrow's game: Fontenot/Theriot Derosa Ramirez Lee Soriano Soto Edmonds/Johnson Theriot/fontenot Zambrano
  4. If we lose this game, I hope a bear escapes brookfield zoo and eats Torre's stupid head.
  5. Marquis needs to be fired...out of a cannon. ASAP! Worst pitcher ever! So I said, when we picked up Edmonds "nothing can stop the cubs except washed up cardinals players" but damn. Edmonds jacked another HR tonight to put his OPS>1 and slash stats above the 300/400/500 mark. LOL to thinking hill was dead. Lets get bedard NOW. I think CCs out of the cards
  6. I actually advocated we trade him because he's 28 and perhaps has more trade value than real value. Perhaps not. I wanted the cubs to try leverage him, pie, murton and marshall for someone like santana in the offseason, tho i dont think that would have been a strong enough trade to attract santana. Maybe we could still use him in a trade for Bedard? Say what you will about him, his stuff is a lot like Zambrano's. CC might be impossible to get because of the yankees on the hunt for pitching. I'd accept a Burnett to replace marquis, but much rather have someone quality if he's supposed to replace sp3 or higher..
  7. News: Hill had an awful start for the Cubs Rookie League team in Arizona on Tuesday and might just get shut down indefinitely, the Arlington Daily Herald reports. Spin: Hill went one-third of an inning, giving up five runs (four earned) on a hit, three walks and a hit batter. "They've actually discussed that; it might be just best to shut him down totally," manager Lou Piniella said. "I don't know if that's going to happen, but it's been discussed, yes. It's a shame, it really is. This came out of nowhere this spring and fed on itself. The amazing thing is about it is I never even realized he had a problem. I just saw him last year, and he pitched so well. Last spring, he never walked a hitter." God damnit. Let's put the fact that I drafted Hill in fantasy based on his stellar control and high K rates. Let's just look at the fact that we SHOULD have had a solid #2/3 pitcher IN HIS PRIME instead of the controlless mess he's been. I sincerely hope Rich Hill isn't the next Rick Ankiel or Steve Blass. []. Can't we just have last year's rotation again, minus Marquis, plus dempster pre-June 26. Grr. Also, does ANYONE but me fear Dempster has 2007 Marquis syndrome -- a sub-mediocre career pitcher who goes on a tear for half a season? Hm...something is fishy. Maybe it's just the glove flutter Quick side note: How does ankiel hit the 3B with TWO strikes from dead center when he cant hit anything but a batter from 60 ft away??? I'm STILL baffled
  8. You can blame me for this loss guys. The game's blacked out here too, so I've been watching the game on Yahoo and when the Cubs jacked 2, I turned back to the Cards game on FSN and said, a few mins later, "have the Cubs won yet or did the Pirates jack another HR"....and then they did. Literally when I said it. [expletive]
  9. I actually just made this trade: Rick Ankiel, Liriano, Jeff Kent, Jose Reyes, Carlos Lee and Derek Lowe for Matt Holliday, Erik Bedard, Brandon Phillips, Orlando Cabrera and Roy Oswalt I think my new pitching staff is unbeatable, personally -- I'll be OK in SVs, but the rest is pretty set I don't know WHY they accepted this trade, but I'm not complaining...how does this chance PECOTA projections? Also, where did you fig. this info out? Thanks for the help!
  10. This isn't a "rate my team" question. It's more a question of what I am missing (questioning whether I need to be more competitive in certain categories to actually be competitive in the league). I've provided as many numbers as I could to help you give me a concrete answer. At the end of this post, you will find my team listing and a series of league projections. My League's Parameters: 12 teams, Daily H2H (R,RBI,HR,SB,BA,OBP,SLG x W,SV,ERA,K,WHIP,K:BB,QS) I did a rudimentary analysis of my team's stats largely based on 2008 player projections (anticipating criticism, I realize the unreliability in these numbers; I'm merely using them as a rough benchmark -- I also calculated my entire league's projections). My team AVG contribution per player is currently predicted to be: 90.11 Runs (811 total) 24.56 HR (221 total) 86.67 RBI (780 total) 18.11 SB (163 total) .293 team BA .371 team OBP .500 team SLG .871 team OPS I recently made a trade for Jose Reyes (gave up Carlos Guillen, Noah Lowry and Jermaine Dye) which boosted my SB numbers greatly (+7.2 per player) and raised my Rs (+3.7 per player), but at the cost of -5 RBIs per player and -1 HR per player (Reyes and Jack Cust might offset this loss if they hit a few extra dingers this year) -- my team BA, OBP and SLG changed by insignificant amounts (-.0014 in BA and OBP, -.008 in SLG) At this point, my main concern is my lack luster RBIs. I realize it's just one category, but do I need to add anything? At what cost? I assume that I have an unnecessary abundance of SBs. I currently have a trade on the table from a guy lacking power in his OF2 and OF3 -- he is offering Holliday for Carlos Lee and someone like Ankiel. Of course, if this trade is ultimately accepted by him, I will too (esp. since Ankiel is just sitting on my bench). Additionally, should I have any concern about my pitching staff? My intuition says no, but I don't have the available tools to analyze pitching (DIPS aren't my thing) Below is information on my league to help you make a better quantifiable decision. My Team C-Jorge Posada 1B-Ryan Garko 2B-Jeff Kent SS-Jose Reyes 3B-David Wright OF-Grady Sizemore OF-Carlos Lee OF-Matt Kemp UTIL-Jack Cust BN-Matt Diaz BN-Joey Votto BN-Rick Ankiel SP-Cole Hamels SP-Aaron Harang SP-Rich Hill SP-Fransisco Liriano SP-Derek Lowe SP-Zach Greinke SP-Justin Duchscherer RP-Brian Wilson RP-Joakim Soria RP-Heath Bell Here are the league's projected offensive stats per team. My team's 2008 numbers. The variance here refers to the same player's 2007 output. The numbers seem to indicate that I may have overbid for my team (negative numbers indicate a projected regression) http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/Vader5333/MyTeam_SeasonalVariance.jpg Here are the other team's projections. A negative variance indicates that I have an advantage over that team. Positive variance indicates that they have an advantage over me. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/Vader5333/Team1.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/Vader5333/Team2.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/Vader5333/team3.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/Vader5333/team4.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/Vader5333/team5.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/Vader5333/team6.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/Vader5333/team7.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/Vader5333/team8.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/Vader5333/team9.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/Vader5333/Team10.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/Vader5333/Team11.jpg Any and all responses are greatly appreciated.
