  1. That's a story I don't know, what happened?
  2. Definitely looked like he was about to attack the umpire there, thought he might pull a Olympic Judo moment.
  3. Wow, turned the game on to see us down 4 to 1, just in time to watch the offense EXPLODE. God I love this team. Backe's reaction was priceless. :yahoo:
  4. Well, at least your half right. ;)
  5. Thanks. Iowa or ISU? Iowa! Well, Creighton, at the moment, but Iowa City is in my grad school plans. And the Hawkeyes are my other team (besides the Cubs), of course :good:
  6. Brenly used it today to indicate that Marmol was a little to anxious to get the 3rd out after cruising for the 1st two (he had just walked a batter). Brenly suggested he was over-throwing and losing concentration as he was thinking about finishing the inning instead of finishing the batter. I suppose I should note that horses are usually distracted by the barn, and it can be a pain to get them to listen their rider. I was a horse camp counselor, and occasionally the lead horse would just walk back to the barn after a trail ride, completely ignoring the confused 8 year old on their back. Basically it's a very western way of implying that Marmol got ahead of himself.
  7. It's a horse term. The story goes that horses start to walk/work/trot faster once they get close enough to smell the barn, anticipating being done for the day. Having worked with a few horses, I can say it's (somewhat) true.
  8. I don't usually do this, but:  1) I never said he should be benched; 2) Comparing him to Aramis and Fukudome is stupid. Roll your eyes all you want. I didn't directly compare him to either player...simply pointing out that "something might need to be done" (and what that possibly means besides playing him less, I have no idea) about a productive and generally reliable player having a couple of unfortunately costly errors this early in the season is pretty much an exercise in futility. Then it looks like you missed the point of my post. If he becomes a butcher at 2B what do we do? I dunno, I am just asking. i guess you bench him. which is what everyone said at first, but you didn't like that. i don't know what you want. more importantly, what do we do if rich hill loses his arm in a lawnmower accident? i don't know...but it's a question that needs to be asked. Trade him to the Orioles before it hits the national news?
  9. I actually had more or less the same problem, if anyone's interested. It took a few weeks to get this screen-name activated after a few other unsuccessful attempts, not that it really matters. Anyway that gave me an excuse follow in the footsteps of the many brave souls who made their first post in this absolutely epic thread. As for the actual subject matter of this thread (if it can even be said to have a "subject" in the normal sense of the word), I have my doubts. It's been suggested that adding Roberts helps the bench by moving DeRosa too it, but I'm not convinced. The bench w/o Roberts (assuming no other trades) looks like this along w/ the roles each player backs-up: Murton (LF & RF) Ward (1B & RF in a pinch) Fuld (OF) Cedeno (SS, 2B) Blanco © w/ DeRosa @ 3B, RF, LF, and SS when needed. W/ Roberts it looks like this (I'm assuming Payton comes over, and Cedeno is gone) Payton (OF) Ward (1B & RF) DeRosa (IF, LF, and RF) Cintron (SS, since DeRosa really can't) Blanco © If they don't get stuck with Payton, they still have to carry Fuld over Murton or they have no CF back-up for Pie. The latter bench has less Right-handed pinch hitting potential as far as I can tell (I prefer Murton to DeRosa and Payton, whom we might not get anyway), and a lesser back-up at Short (I'll take Cedeno over Cintron). And even without Roberts, DeRosa can still function asa super-sub. Also in the latter case Murton simply doesn't have a job, though he may end up elsewhere regardless. Of course, If he is traded, I suppose I have no case, but still. That said I still think Roberts is enough of an upgrade to make it worth it, but I really don't think it helps the bench at all, at least not without some other trades (like a SS who can move Theriot to the bench... if only...)
