  1. Minnesota, San Diego, and Jacksonville also had good offensive lines in 2007.
  2. Offensive line is definitely the biggest hole to fill right now. If that gets solved some of the issues at RB will be taken care of as well, although Benson clearly belongs in a platoon. The FS/SS and DT issues in my opinion are more health related: If Mike Brown stays healthy (clearly a huge if), and if Harris and Dvoracek can come back healthy, the defense should be in good shape. Last year's defense was too decmiated by injuries to Harris, Dvoracek, Vasher, Brown, Urlacher, etc. Anybody heard what's the latest story on Briggs? I know during the season he had mentioned he would consider resigning with the team, although I'd imagine he'll get more money in the free agent market.
  3. He has $2M in incentives for maintaining his weight in his current contract, and there have been rumblings that the Sox think some of his injuries last year were due to him coming into the season out of shape.
  4. Lee: .288/.370/.490 DeRosa: .282/.345/.431 Theriot: .301/.351/.389 Ramirez: .310/.358/.535 Soriano: .262/.302/.494 Pie: .235/.278/.456 Fukodome: .298/.360/.476 Soto: .276/.327/.439 Zambrano 1.31/4.21 Lilly: 1.25/4.10 Hill: 1.09/3.14 Marquis: 1.63/6.10 (and benched) Dempster: 1.43/5.01 Lieber: 1.32/4.57 Marmol: .98/2.34 Howry: 1.23/3.89 Wood: 1.14/3.31
  5. Very nice. I imagine many of these will become avatars. What program did you use to make these?
  6. His 2007 line against lefties of .225/.269/.494 is downright awful. And there's one less lefty in that division this week (Santana). I think the Tigers will come out of this okay. There's still Liriano, Sabathia and Buehrle, but point taken.
  7. One of the South Side's very own gets paid. His 2007 line against lefties of .225/.269/.494 is downright awful.
  8. It's also funny with Shockey being in a luxury box for the game. I wonder how Shula, Griese, Csonka, etc are celebrating this one.
  9. Why is that hard to believe? They were 6th in the based on record last season, and 2 teams were within 2 games of them. Some teams have improved, while some Cubs fans believe that the rotation really overachieved last season and is bound to regress. They were also 2 games from having the 3rd best record, pythag-wise. We can debate progression/regression for every team until the end of time, but the Cubs were relatively easily among the Top 8 teams last year, and they've improved the roster. It's irrationally pessimistic to have them as low as 8th. With the Cubs, irrational pessimism becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
  10. Agreed. Without Santan their rotation would have been below average. The rest of their rotation is: - Pedro: 36 years old and has pitched a combined 161 innings the past two years - Oliver Perez: ERA+ of 72, 67, and 120 over the last three years - John Maine: 109 ERA+ last year but should be developing - Orlando Hernandez: 41 years old and with ERA+ of 88, 96 and 115 while averaging 118 IP the last three years With pitching like that guaranteeing the NL Crown, or even the NL East Division title, is premature.
  11. RFK Busch II Three Rivers Riverfront Veteran's Astrodome. Shea, in '09 Atlanta-Fulton County I would throw New Comiskey/Cell in the "cookie-cutter parks that are still alive and kicking" category.
  12. I think sportsbook.com said that the majority of the bets they have been receiving have been for the Giants to win, straight up (with a 3.5:1 payout). That being said, Giants cover the spread, but Patriots take the game.
  13. Minor league contract Smart move by the Yankees. At best he regains his power from 2003, 2005, and 2006 and gets into their starting lineup. At worst they lose minor league money for someone who put up a .360/.500/.860 line away from San Diego last year.
  14. I wonder how much of that was a geographical preference, and how much of that was driven by the fact that the teams that would have paid Santana the most are on the coasts.
  15. I was at the game in 2002 when he struck out 12 in six innings against Houston, at one point striking out 7 in a row after struggling early on. Never have I been so excited for a Cubs prospect. That being said, I'm glad San Diego has to deal with his injuries and not us.
