  1. My Cubs choices would be: 1. Ernie Banks 2. Ron Santo 3. Billy Williams Tomorrow till be the Brewers.
  2. My Nationals/Expos choices are: 1. Gary Carter 2. Vladimir Guerrero (it was really hard to choose between him and Dawson) 3. Tim Raines
  3. I don't see how you can include Alomar when he spent only five of his 17 seasons with Toronto. Granted, that was the most time he spent with one team, but still. Delgado was there for longer and is the franchise leader in career OPS (by a decent margin). He has to be on that list. The choices were tough to make and I can relate to your perspective on Delgado. The reason I put Alomar on there is because even though Delgado spent more years with Toronto, Alomar has better career numbers and is most likely to go into the Hall of Fame as a Blue Jay. He was even on both of the Blue Jays World Championship teams and hit one of the most memorable home runs in their history. And he had made a name for himself as a franchise player while Delgado was just a rookie. The choices for the Astros are in: ESPN: 1. Craig Biggio 2. Jeff Bagwell 3. Larry Dierker Viewers: 1. Craig Biggio 2. Jeff Bagwell 3. Nolan Ryan My choices: Same as the viewers, although I can understand ESPN's choice for Dierker. Tomorrow will be the Expos/Nationals.
  4. The Blue Jays results are in. These choices are gonna shock you. The choices are: ESPN: 1. Carlos Delgado 2. George Bell 3. Tony Fernandez Viewers: 1. Joe Carter 2. Roy Halladay 3. Roberto Alomar My choices (I had a tough time deciding these): 1. Roberto Alomar 2. Joe Carter 3. Tony Fernandez
  5. The Giants results are in: ESPN: 1. Willie Mays 2. Barry Bonds 3. Christy Mathewson Viewers: Ditto My choices: Note: I wasn't sure whether or not to include Barry Bonds, so I decided to do two lists, one with Bonds and one without. Without Barry Bonds: 1. Willie Mays 2. Christy Mathewson 3. Carl Hubbell With Barry Bonds: 1. Willie Mays 2. Christy Mathewson 3. Barry Bonds Tomorrow will be the Blue Jays.
  6. O.M.G. You are so right. I can't believe I forgot about Eddie Collins. I'll re-phrase my choices now. 1. Frank Thomas 2. Luke Appling 3. Eddie Collins
  7. The choices for the White Sox are in. ESPN's choices: 1. Frank Thomas 2. Luke Appling 3. Nellie Fox Viewers: 1. Frank Thomas 2. Nellie Fox 3. Carlton Fisk My choices would've been the same as ESPN's choices.
  8. Starting yesterday, Baseball Tonight has been doing a segment regarding the top 3 players for each franchise as voted on by the ESPN crew and the viewers. Yesterday, they did the top 3 players for the Cardinals and today, they did the top 3 players for the Reds. The choices for the Cardinals were: ESPN: 1. Stan Musial 2. Bob Gibson 3. Lou Brock Viewers: 1. Stan Musial 2. Ozzie Smith 3. Bob Gibson The choices for the Reds were: ESPN: 1. Johnny Bench 2. Pete Rose 3. Frank Robinson Viewers: 1. Pete Rose 2. Johnny Bench 3. Bucky Walters What are your thoughts on the choices selected for the Cardinals and Reds and which players would you have chosen and in what order? My choices for the Cardinals would've been: 1. Stan Musial 2. Rogers Hornsby 3. Lou Brock Cincinnati Reds: 1. Pete Rose 2. Johnny Bench 3. Ernie Lombardi Tomorrow, they'll be doing the greatest players for the White Sox.
  9. Who all here is familiar with the book called Obsessed With Baseball? I got a copy of it not too long ago and it has some great trivia. It includes over 2,000 questions about various baseball subjects and includes a couple of electronic trivia games. I've been looking for people whose knowledge I could test and if anyone would like, I'd like to sometime soon start up a chat room where we could do some of these games to test our knowledge. What do you guys think? If anyone is interested, feel free to PM or IM me. My AIM name is KevinKeene89 and my YIM name is paladinelric.
  10. I've shown almost everyone I know this video. I hope we're laughing with you and not necessarily at you, but we are laughing. Anyway, I thought it was hilarious. No worries. You're laughing with me. :) I'm not an easily-offended person and I understand how you and your friends reacted over it.
  11. Here's what I'm saying at the end of it: AND THERE'S A LONG DRIVE. DEEP TO RIGHT FIELD. CANSECO'S GONNA WATCH THAT BALL GO AND THE DODGERS WIN GAME 1 OF THE 1988 WORLD SERIES. I CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT WE HAVE JUST WITNESSED. THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST MOMENTS IN THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL. KIRK GIBSON, WHO IS IN ONE OF THE WORST CONDITIONS A BALLPLAYER COULD POSSIBLY BE IN, WINS GAME 1 OF THE 1988 WORLD SERIES WITH A TWO-RUN HOME RUN IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 9TH INNING. AND THIS CROWD OF 55,983 IS GOING ABSOLUTELY BERSERK, AS KIRK GIBSON WINS GAME 1 OF THE 1988 WORLD SERIES FOR THE DODGERS. THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE. I DON'T BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAW. I DON'T BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAW. THIS WILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF THE GREATEST MOMENTS IN HISTORY.
  12. Who do you think is worse at broadcasting, Fox's baseball broadcast team or the announcer in this clip? http://youtube.com/watch?v=FMGWxCxE8kY
  13. I don't think you realize just how feared of a hitter Jim Rich was. I've seen his career stats and he did put up some great numbers, and for a lot of teams, I'd agree with him being nominated, but with the long and storied history the Red Sox have had, he just seems out of place mentioned with names like Ted Williams and Cy Young. And this is probably one of the most random topics I've seen posted here, considering the oldness of the actual vote. Welcome to the boards, btw. Thanks. :)
  14. A couple of seasons ago, Major League Baseball did a program where people could vote on who they thought was the franchise player for each team. Of the players that were nominated for each team, which do you agree with all of the nominations for and which teams do you think should've had different nominee? And if you could replace nominees you disagree with with other nominees, who would you replace? The nominees for each team were: *indicates winner Baltimore Orioles: Eddie Murray Jim Palmer Cal Ripken, Jr.* Brooks Robinson Frank Robinson Boston Red Sox: Roger Clemens Jim Rice Ted Williams* Carl Yaztrzemski Cy Young Chicago White Sox: Luke Appling Harold Baines Nellie Fox Minnie Minoso Frank Thomas* Cleveland Indians: Earl Averill Larry Doby Bob Feller* Nap Lajoie Tris Speaker Detroit Tigers: Ty Cobb* Charlie Gehringer Hank Greenberg Al Kaline Alan Trammell Kansas City Royals: George Brett* Amos Otis Brett Saberhagen Mike Sweeney Frank White Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim: Jim Abbott Don Baylor Rod Carew* Chuck Finley Tim Salmon Minnesota Twins: Rod Carew Kent Hrbek Harmon Killebrew Tony Oliva Kirby Puckett* New York Yankees: Yogi Berra Joe DiMaggio Lou Gehrig Mickey Mantle Babe Ruth* Oakland Athletics: Dennis Eckersley Lefty Grove Rickey Henderson Catfish Hunter Reggie Jackson* Seattle Mariners: Jay Buhner Ken Griffey, Jr.* Ichiro Edgar Martinez Jamie Moyer Tampa Bay Rays: Wade Boggs* Carl Crawford Roberto Hernandez Aubrey Huff Fred McGriff Texas Rangers: Rusty Greer Ivan Rodriguez Nolan Ryan* Jim Sundberg Mark Teixiera Toronto Blue Jays: Roberto Alomar Joe Carter* Tony Hernandez Pat Hentgen Dave Steib Arizona Diamondbacks: Jay Ball Luis Gonzalez Randy Johnson* Todd Stottlemyre Matt Williams Atlanta Braves: Hank Aaron* Chipper Jones Phil Niekro John Smoltz Warren Spahn Chicago Cubs: Ernie Banks* Ferguson Jenkins Ryne Sandberg Ron Santo Billy Williams Cincinnati Reds: Johnny Bench Joe Morgan Tony Perez Frank Robinson Pete Rose* Colorado Rockies: Dante Bichette Vinny Castilla Andres Galarragga Todd Helton Larry Walker* Florida Marlins: Josh Beckett Luis Castillo Jeff Conine Robb Nen Dontrelle Willis* Houston Astros: Jeff Bagwell Craig Biggio Larry Dierker Nolan Ryan* Jimmy Wynn Los Angeles Dodgers: Roy Campanella Sandy Koufax Pee Wee Reese Jackie Robinson* Duke Snider Milwaukee Brewers: Cecil Cooper Rollie Fingers Jim Gantner Paul Molitor Robin Yount* New York Mets: John Franco Tug McGraw Mike Piazza Tom Seaver* Darryl Strawberry Philadelphia Phillies: Richie Ashburn Steve Carlton Chuck Klein Robin Roberts Mike Schmidt* Pittsburgh Pirates: Roberto Clemente* Ralph Kiner Bill Mazeroski Willie Stargell Honus Wagner St. Louis Cardinals: Lou Brock Bob Gibson Stan Musial* Albert Pujols Ozzie Smith San Diego Padres: Brian Giles Tony Gwynn* Trevor Hoffman Randy Jones Dave Winfield San Francisco Giants: Barry Bonds Juan Marichal Willie Mays* Willie McCovey Mel Ott Washington Nationals/Montreal Expos: Gary Carter* Livan Hernandez Brian Schneider Rusty Staub Jose Vidro The nominees that I disagree with and would replace are: Orioles: None Red Sox: Jim Rice with Tris Speaker White Sox: Harold Baines and Minnie Minoso with Eddie Collins and Ted Lyons Indians: None Tigers: None Royals: Amos Otis and Mike Sweeney with Bo Jackson and Dan Quisenberry Angels: Chuck Finley with Nolan Ryan Twins: Kent Hrbek with Jim Kaat Yankees: None Athletics: Dennis Eckersley, Reggie Jackson and Catfish Hunter with Jimmy Foxx, Al Simmons and Eddie Plank Mariners: Either Jamie Moyer or Jay Buhner with Randy Johnson Rays: None Rangers: Rusty Greer, Nolan Ryan and Mark Teixiera with Juan Gonzalez, Jeff Burrougs and Charlie Hough Blue Jays: Pat Hentgen with Tom Henke Diamondbacks: Todd Stottlemyre with Curt Schilling Braves: Chipper Jones and John Smoltz with Eddie Mathews and Lew Burdette Cubs: None Reds: Maybe Frank Robinson with Ernie Lombardi Rockies: None Marlins: Robb Nen with Miguel Cabrera Astros: None Dodgers: None Brewers: Jim Gantner with Gorman Thomas Mets: None Phillies: Chuck Klein with Grover Alexander Pirates: None Cardinals: Albert Pujols with Rogers Hornsby Padres: Brian Giles with Benito Santiago Giants: Barry Bonds with Christy Mathewson Nationals/Expos: Livan Hernandez, Brian Schneider and Jose Vidro with Tim Raines, Jeff Reardon and either Andre Dawson or Vladimir Guerrero Of the players nominated for each team, which do you agree with and which would you replace?
  15. Konerko's home run didn't tie it. It gave the White Sox a 2-run lead and the Jose Vizcaino tied the game in the 9th, which set the stage for Podsednik's heroics. That game is a good choice, though. But the reason why I chose game 2 of the '05 ALCS is because of what happened in the 9th inning, which set the stage for the rest of the series and had they not called it a wild pitch, the Angels might've taken a two games to none lead.
  16. What would you consider the number one moment in each ballpark? My choices are: Current: Oriole Park at Camden Yards: Cal Ripken Jr.'s 2,131st consecutive game played Fenway Park: Game 6 of the '75 World Series New Comiskey Park: Game 2 of the '05 A.L.C.S. Jacobs Field: Game 4 of the '97 A.L.D.S. (although game 2 of the '07 A.L.D.S. isn't far behind) Comerica Park: Game 4 of the '06 A.L.C.S. Kauffman Stadium: Game 6 of the '85 World Series Angel Stadium of Anaheim: Game 6 of the '86 A.L.C.S. Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome: Game 7 of the '91 World Series Yankee Stadium: (as tough as this one is to decide) Don Larsen's perfect game Oakland Coliseum: Rickey Henderson's 939th stolen base $afeco Field: Ichiro's 257th and 258th hits of the 2004 season Tropicana Field: Wade Boggs's 3,000th hit Rangers Ballpark In Arlington: Sammy Sosa's 600th home run SkyDome: Game 6 of the '93 World Series Cha$e Field: Game 7 of the 01 World Series Turner Field: Game 6 of the '99 N.L.C.S. Dodger Stadium: Game 1 of the '88 World Series Miller Park: '02 All-Star Game (as much as I don't like to think about it) Shea Stadium: Game 6 of the '86 World Series Citizen's Bank Park: 2007 N.L. East clincher PNC Park: '06 All-Star Game New Busch Stadium: Game 5 of the 2006 World Series Petco Park: Trevor Hoffman breaking the all-time saves record AT&T Park: (that's not Barry Bonds-related) Game 5 of the '02 N.L.C.S. Nationals Park (or whatever lame-@$$ business they end up naming the ballpark after): N/A Past ballparks (of what I can think of off the top of my head): Old Comiskey Park: '33 All-Star Game Kingdome: Game 5 of the '95 A.L.D.S. Arlington Stadium: Nolan Ryan's 7th no-hitter Exhibition Stadium: Phil Niekro's 300th win Atlanta Fulton-County Stadium: Hank Aaron's 715th Cinergy Field: Pete Rose's 4,192nd hit Astrodome: Game 6 of the '86 N.L.C.S. 17. Which of the next set of new ballparks are you looking forward to seeing the most?
  18. I'm not considering either of the two choices as "the" worst thing to happen to the game of baseball. I was asking which of the two is the worse thing to have happened to the game. Sorry about the confusion.
  19. Which of these two things would you consider to be the worst thing to happen to baseball?
  20. I'm really hoping for Wrigley not to be renamed. It was bad enough seeing the Indians front office give Richard Jacobs the finger. If Zell has really become the Cubs CEO, I'm surprised no one has created a petition to convince him not to do so and that might be the best chance to avoid him spitting on William Wrigley's grave (which Zell would be doing if he renamed the ballpark). Although if the park did get renamed, one way the fans could fight back would be to attend fewer games. I hope Cuban ends up buying the Cubs. He seems cool.
