  1. There's nothing wrong with holding different positions to a different offensive standard. If you're going to use 1st ballot as a special qualification, I can buy the argument that Thomas shouldn't go in his first year, and would probably support it. I agree. Obviously we'll have to wait and see how the BBWAA reacts to the more prominent DH hitters of the last era to make statements like the one I made.
  2. I love Carlos Zambrano.
  3. I remember there was contoversy over that card, just a year or 2 after the Billy Ripken [expletive] Face card and its many variations. It made the news. I also forgot about that short lived White Sox logo between the SOX and the current logo. Now that I actually take a moment to think about it, Sammy is probably laughing at the person Frank is flipping off. Thanks for the information, though. I thought I remembered a big stink over the card, even as a kid in California.
  4. The real question I'd like to find out is if the Cubs have the power to get their balls deep enough to go all the way.
  5. I like you.
  6. I could stomach a signing like Calero if appropriate, but I can't stress enough the importance of saving payroll space. At times in the past people have shrugged off a $2MM deal here, a $4MM deal there, yet those very deals might preclude us from trading for an impact player this July (or hopefully earlier). Though this should all come as quite obvious.
  7. By the way, keeping this man out of the Hall would be a complete travesty. Why the BBWAA continues to look down on a position created and sanctioned by Major League Baseball is beyond me. Designated Hitter is a part of the game, make it part of the Hall.
  8. Despite playing for the wrong team, Frank was one of my favorite Chicago baseball players of the 90s. I still have a (or a couple) 1991 Upper Deck Frank Thomas card where he is allegedly flipping off someone in the dugout. http://www.sox35th.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/frank.jpg Classic. Edit: Since I haven't looked at that card in years, I just noticed that apparently Sammy finds Frank's antics quite amusing. At least I think that is Sammy.
  9. Yet still, it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable that he can't manage to catch the ball with his hands let alone with his over-sized shirt. Nice eye-hand (and eye-shirt) coordination, Tyler.
  10. Save the money and let our young guys battle for the spot. How is that not obvious? I'm hoping it is now. Finally.
  11. It's edited by Al Yellon. Makes sense. Ewwwwwwwwwww. My sentiment worded quite succinctly. Nice. Andy has a few amusing lines about it over on a website I don't think I should mention here if memory serves me right. Though, I know from lurking for years that there are a good number of us that transverse the Cubs blogosphere regardless of rivalries. To each their own. Since I'm already posting in this thread I may as well give a prediction. 90-72 with the aid of a mid-season acquisition and a strong second half. Edit: Ha, apparently I agree with TT. No disrespect, BBB.
  12. It's edited by Al Yellon. Makes sense.
  13. I'm on board. Maddux joining the organization and a possible Sheets incentive-laden deal make me pine for this momentum of sane decisions to keep rollin'.
  14. Fisted.
  15. I have no doubt he will overpay. But look on the bright side. When hendry is fired we can hire Depo and he'll rebuild the farm like he did for the dodgers. You misspelled Logan White. Thank you. While I think DePodesta is a capable executive that has received undue flack over the years, this notion that he was the driving force behind the youthful success of the Dodgers is false. Billingsley (drafted in '03), Kemp (2003), Loney (2002), Broxton (2002), Martin (2002), and Stults (2002) were all drafted before DePodesta became general manager in February of 2004. The one piece DePodesta provided the current Dodger roster with is Andre Ethier, traded for Milton Bradley and Antonio Perez to the Oakland Athletics in December of 2005. As SouthSideRyan pointed out, the man you should be looking to headhunt if your desire is to rebuild the Cubs farm system is Logan White. http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/la/community/executives/white.html The above link is a short biography of his career in case you're interested.
  16. At the risk of sounding petty, his name is "Kosuke," not "Kouske." Or is that some in-joke I missed while lurking all these years?
  17. If Jake Peavy is a member of the Chicago Cubs, Marshall and/or Wells won't be. Long time lurker, first time poster. First time posting after registering quite awhile ago, oddly enough.
