  2. Grinderball sounds like a really painful sexual position
  3. Stems all the way back to when they were both in New York. I guess they have an argument based on the history and, most recently, fans putting each other in comas.
  4. 1. Meaningless Huh? So, when you hire people (if you ever have), do you try to find the most lazy sloth you can to fill the position? Hardly meaningless. I work pretty damn hard at eating food but that doesn't make me a chef, knowhaduhmean
  5. I like all of that
  6. LEAVE BRETT JACKSON ALONE
  7. Theo can drink Colt 45 Blast for all I care
  8. Now watch no one score for 6 more innings
  9. If we were going to target a Royal who might be expendable, would it not make sense to target Billy Butler instead?
  10. Hollandsworth
  11. [expletive] you, Phil Rogers
  12. That does my heart well
  13. I think the Twins still place a lot of value on Liriano. I seem to recall the Yankees inquiring about him but they were asking for like Jesus Montero or some crazy, irrational demand. I like Liriano probably more than any other person on this board, and last season appeared to be his breaking out season (despite his solid, but average standard numbers, he had one of the highest WAR's and lowest FIP/xFIP's of any MLB pitcher), but this year he regressed pretty badly and even I'd be skeptical to give up too much or him But with Nathan leaving perhaps Marmol would entice them? And yeah Barney seems to fit their mold of traditional player. Might not be a bad idea. Marmol can easily be replaced by Marshall or Wood (if they resign him), and like others have said Barney has his comparables who can fill in in a pinch
  14. Yeah... and I doubt San Fran offers him arbitration. I don't think they're that cold blooded.
  15. Goes to show you how much I bothered to pay attention to this season's team #-o
  16. Admittedly, I haven't really paid much attention to Barney's defense. Didn't realize it was that solid
  17. If the Cubs pick up his option and Ramirez declines, is there any draft compensation if he sings with another club? I realize that this is different than offering arbitration, but I honestly don't know. I would think that Ramirez would be a type A, right? Even if Ramirez declines his option, the Cubs retain the right to offer him arbitration. That's where the draft pick compensation comes from, same as with any other departing FA. And weirdly enough, last I saw Ramirez was projected to be a Type B... which speaks again to the whole "lumping 2B, 3B, and SS together" thing as far as determining status. Jeff Keppinger is a Type A, for heaven's sake. It really is a shitty system. It's embarrassing that Keppinger is a Type A, but it's equally troubling for Keppinger because it pretty much relegates him to being forced to accept whatever the Giants throw at him because no one else will go near him.
  18. For news/reports that don't deserve a separate thread... Hill intrigues me, but mostly because I dislike Darwin Barney as a legitimate 2B option for the Cubs. Hill provides some sort of bounce-back, buy-low candidate but like most of you, I would imagine, I'm not sold on the possibility of a bounce back for him. Not much of a chance to prove himself in the NL though, but he did perform well. He did however have a good hitters park, though.
  19. Are you saying we were players for Adrian Gonzalez? Maybe my memory alludes me or I blocked that painful memory out of my head, but I don't recall anything of the sort.
  20. Posted this in the compensaion thread in Transactions but thought this would be good to post here too..
  21. We'll grow to become arrogant, self-assured that our management can do no wrong, so anything that goes wrong will be completely on the players and other non-management factors, like other teams' luck. In other words, we'll become SoSH. And when he leaves for the Nationals we'll demand Strasburg and Harper as fair compensation Year 4? No way. Six seasons and a movie, thanks. 4 years was too premature, had to edit for open ended-ness. Preferably, I hope Theo never leaves and stays here forever. And ever. and ever. and ever. and ever.
