  1. First Maddon, then bring in Ozzie, convince Manny to be assistant hitting coach, sign McCarthy as the 2nd pitcher. Most entertaining team ever. EVER.
  2. "Late last week" and "Friday" seem kind of synonymous. Also, couldn't it have been industry knowledge that he had an opt-out clause? Maddon had two weeks to decide, his decision was made Friday. That means the industry might've known about it through their sources for the previous two weeks ever since Friedman left.
  3. I think Gordon didn't do himself any favors by looking for the ball halfway to third base, but even if he put his head down and ran through he'd probably only marginally be past third by the time Crawford received it. Still they teach you in friggin' little league if you're trying to beat out a throw to an extra base, don't look for the ball because it will slow you down, just power forward and trust your base coach. It just blows my mind how he wasn't halfway to third by the time the ball was actually thrown from the wall. I figured Gordon was a little faster than that.
  4. I don't mean to be that guy, but does anyone think the Royals will be "back" next year? You're not escaping Yost's idiocy two seasons in a row and they'll lose their "top pitcher" to free agency. No chance. That said, I also didn't expect them to make the wild card let alone the World Series, so who the hell knows.
  5. Bwahahahahaha, he called him Watson. Our jokes are no longer jokes, they are prophecies.
  6. Using this http://baseballsavant.com/pitchfx_search.php Its 631 Jeebus.

  8. I wonder how many of those 999 pitches on the Reds were from Aroldis Chapman alone.

  10. Was it Edmonds who made that amazing catch on the hill? I forget if he made it on the Cards or the Cubs... unless it was someone different all together and I'm just confused.
  11. Yeah, it doesn't make sense, but the excitement at the possibility of getting something substantial in exchange for him far outweighed the dreadful feeling of him not being on the team anymore. But that's just me.
  12. We should probably start an Offseason Trade Rumors/News thread at some point, since this one is mostly pertaining to Cubs related stuff, but figured I'd put this here for now:
  13. Bwahahahhahaha
  14. Honestly when I saw the thread title I knew it was a hoax (especially considering trades aren't exactly possible right now), but I still sort of fell for it when I opened it up and saw the first glimpse of a tweet and my immediate thought wasn't "Oh no, why did they trade Castro?" it was "Ooohhhh, what did we get in return for Castro!?!" which I realized shows how much I prefer whether or not Castro is on this team moving forward.

  16. Oh I doubt this. I don't expect to learn any real info till the WS is over with. I think it's possible more information unofficially leaks out, but don't see any real announcement coming yet. http://www.bleachernation.com/2014/10/27/your-morning-maddon-cubs-have-contacted-maddon-tampering-talk-free-agents-more/
  17. Probably not that much better since they were already amazing. But it's still better.
  18. His intelligent use of defensive shifts and adjustments alone are enough to make me want him. What would Arrieta's numbers look like if Maddon were at the helm managing the defense behind him? He's a really smart in-game manager, maybe the smartest. And he embraces advanced statistical analysis. And everyone who plays for him loves him. And he knows how to take very little and get the absolute most out of it. Putting him on a team that's on the brink of having A LOT and a growing budget? I can't even fathom how successful he could help make the team. I want him managing the Cubs. No hard feelings to Rick Renteria, but the Cubs could probably find any number of managers that can do what Rick does. There's only one Joe Maddon, and no one even comes close, IMO.
  19. Isn't Maddon's agent reaching out to teams before the season is over (and before he's even exercised his opt-out clause) and teams commenting on if they're interested or not considered tampering? Or does that only apply to players?
  20. If the Cubs acquire Mat Latos, I might have an intense personal crisis because I hate him and his stupid fat [expletive] face so much, but I would love to have his production on the team.
  21. Congrats, sneaky. And thanks for doing this, Southpaw! It's always a fun little game (and I won a Felix Pie autographed bat one year!)
  22. Well that's frustrating (if not understandable). I was hoping his big game was gonna be the start of a nice little tear and he was gonna finish the AFL season strong.
  23. The only one that springs to mind was Johan Santana to the Mets.
  24. I would love it if Rickets approached the owners like R.J. Fletcher in UHF just wide-eyed and crazy and all like "I'M GONNA BUY THIS PLACE AND TURN IT INTO A PARKING LOT" ahahaha YES Actually, a parking garage might be a wise investment now that I think about it.
