  1. They sure did yesterday (I was watching their game against OM)
  2. It's the Erling Haaland show at the Etihad today - that fourth goal is ridiculous: he never even looks at the goal or the keeper (just a glimpse to see where KDB is) and then curls it in.
  3. What a glorious evening in Greece! Club Bruges through to a European semifinal deserves a celebratory beer 😉
  4. I think PSV is the best option (by far) of the ones you listed - and not just for Americans 😉
  5. For those following German soccer: only one team from the top flight made it to the semi-finals of the cup: Leverkusen (the league leaders). They are joined by two second division teams and one from the third division.
  6. PCA getting the uniform dirty early 😀
  7. French Cup side makes 8000-mile round trip and lose 12-0 Could have been jet lag though 😉
  8. KDB back at team practice today - he could provide the boost they need.
  9. Fun and (Euro) games for the Mac Allister family at Anfield today with Alexis (Liverpool) facing his brother Kevin (Union St Gilles)
  10. File under "why I love soccer traditions": this evening, for the first time since 1969, the "Zwanzederby" will be played in the top flight of Belgian soccer between Union (est. 1897) en RWDM (est. 1895 as Daring), the two clubs in Brussels with a fanbase in the city itself (Anderlecht doens't count since their fanbase comes from outside of Brussels). The name Zwanzederby derives from a theatre play from 1938 in which two families try to cancel a planned wedding when they find out their in-laws support the "other" team. Picture from a 1930's game at Dudenpark (to this day still the home of Union and looking more or less the same as in the picture - the main stand has landmark status)
  11. Excellent run by the Lazio goalkeeper to head in the equalizer in stoppage time at Athletico Madrid.
  12. To be fair, Lozano did go over to congratulate him after he scored the penalty (but I admit the body language was entertaining to watch on television)
  13. Sam Vines started and played a full game for Antwerp in the return leg of the CL playoffs away at AEK Athens tonight. It ended in a 1-2 win for Antwerp in which Vines did an excellent job at left back. On to the group stage !
  14. Karel Sabbe, a dentist from Anzegem (Belgium) set a new record for running the Pacific Crest Trail: 46 days, 12 hours an 59 minutes. That’s five days (!) faster than the previous best. 😎
  15. He'll play - PSV has a lot of fitness problems in their backline. If he doesn't start against Rangers later today, it's because of his lack of match rythm. With Van Aanholt getting injured last Saturday, left back is Dest's to take.
  16. PSV now has an equal number of US and Belgian players (three)
  17. As promised: very much a baptism by fire for Gabriel Slonina this afternoon as he was on the recieving end of a 0-5 drubbing by Club Brugge am Kehrweg this afternoon (no complaints from this Bruges fan about the result 😉 ) Should have avoided the third goal (committed to a corner and didn't get there, was subsequently headed in by a guy at the far post), but no chance on the other four. Made two crucial saves to avoid an even worse result - all in all not a fair game to evaluate his talent, but as I stated earlier, he'll have a full workload at Eupen.
  18. LOL Haaland takes exactly 4 minutes to open his tally for the new season.
  19. Malik Tillman to PSV confirmed by the club’s website (on a 1yr loan deal with an option)
  20. Gabriel Slonina loaned out by Chelsea to KAS Eupen - the only team from the German speaking part of Belgium in the top flight. He's guaranteed to get a good goalkeeping workload at the Kehrweg, as they are more likely to fight against relegation than for European spots. I'll keep you guys updated on his performances 😉
  21. Matt Turner to Nottingham Forest confirmed.
  22. TIL the Vatican has a sports club (Atletica Vaticana) and a member is competing in the world road cycling championship today. Not entirely sure the organisers in Glasgow have a Vatican flag ready for the podium ceremony, but the chance they'll need one is extremely small.
  23. Looks like Weston McKennie will need to find a new employer too.
  24. Pepi to PSV almost a done deal.
  25. Could have been something Arteaga said ... in Dutch. He's been playing with Genk for the last three years - they may have taught him the effective way to insult a Dutchman. 😇
