  1. Death, taxes and a brittle Wood. Just glad that a hot tub wasn't nearby. Can't wait for Lou and Hendry to spin it.
  2. The Score says the Sham Closer won't be pitching today as he's got a sore back. Saw it coming..brittle.
  3. Send him some Joe's donuts and a case from The Wheel ASAP.
  4. YIKES!!! Kosuke stealing 2nd and ball hits him in the neck. He's OK, but EPatt is running for him.
  5. DLee looks about 10-15 lbs lighter, especially thru his upper legs. Wish he'd start to drive the ball some.
  6. ARAM goes deep to right with 2 on. 1st of the strong. 4-1.
  7. Cedeno batting for Eyre takes 0-2 pitch to right for a single. Theriot bunts down first and pitcher falls down. 2 on..no outs.
  8. Shealy looks like Grudz thru the face.
  9. Eyre gets out of the 6th with no damage-two left on. Tied 1-1 bottom of 6th.
  10. Yes, he's gone in within a week. I think so too, with the lack of starting pitching. I'm thinking Philly, the Indians or the Mets. Baltimore can't take on his salary and they're #4 place at best. Hendry needs to just dump the total salary and not worry about getting anything back. It's addition by subtraction. I hate it when we pay for someone to play elsewhere.
  11. Marquis comes out after giving up a single in the top of the 5th. Good move-don't hurt his trade value. I thought it was a nice ST outing. Could be his last in a Cubs uni. Scott Eyre in with 0 outs. 14 games away from 10,000 wins. Giants only other team with that many.
  12. Len says the plan is to have all 5 starters work and not let #5 sit and wait. A few off days in April. Good 3-6-1 DP. Lee good throw, Theriot double clutched and Marquis covering first.
  13. That was Peter Chase-the Cubs PR guy. He replaced Sharon Pannazzo-who apparently everyone hated, was a first class rude pain and no one was sad to see her go. If anyone wants Marquis-they have a good game to see him dealing his stuff. Fukodome is pretty skilled in the fundamentals and definite upgrade over Jacque with the arm in right. We obviously still haven't learned to take pitches.
  14. This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the situation perfectly. Serious question: How can people watch LaTroy Hawking blow a whole season in one week in 2004, and then come back and say that it essentially doesn't matter who the closer is? The closer shouldn't be your best reliever, but he definitely has to have a certain mindset and willingness to close Don't confuse the Kerry crowd with any facts. Closing is easy, Kerry will do it 162 games this year. Didn't you see him fan #78 and #66 in the 7th yesterday in Mesa? Wow! Saves are meaningless, as long as Kerry gets to pitch. Wheee.. There are more than 180+ active pitchers with at least one save in the majors. But Kerry isn't one of them. But this crowd wants to hand the closer role over to an unproven, untested and injury prone thrower. Oh look..it's Sarah..wave at the camera for all your fans in Louisiana. Yipee..saves are easy.
  15. Prefer to have someone close who has at least done it once in his career.
  16. Let's see, there are three candidates for the Cubs closer, which one do you choose?: A. Has 65 career saves, 238 games finished. B. Pitched in 65 games in 2007, 1-save and 6 games finished. C. Pitched in 22 games in 2007, finished 2 and has 0 career saves. Not even close.
  17. Selig makes Bowie Kuhn look like a Mensa founder. He is the worst.
  18. I believe this discussion is quite relevant, Tim. The Hendry regime has been quite awful. Hendry has overall approval of the draft, so he OK'ed these players selected. Plus, he hired these organizational people who conducted the draft and their minor league development. The Cubs have had high picks in the draft and they have not worked out. Hendry can't skate on this. We haven't developed a quality everyday player in more than 10 years-that's terrible. We keep the same old philosophy and with the same old results.
  19. According to The Score, scouts of the O's are watching Juan Uribe of the Pale Hose, in case the Brian Roberts goes through to us. If the Roberts deal drags on, would there be interest in dealing for Uribe for our SS? I know that he's a hacker and his OBP is probably less than Theriot, but he has 20 HR power and can field. He just signed a one year deal for $4.5-5 million. The White Sox are looking for an experienced pitcher for the end of the rotation.
  20. This is just the usual ST talk. We really don't have a vocal leader on the field(Lee is too laid back) and I hate to have Lou do it from the dugout. But I do have a concerns about the 2nd/SS situation. These guys need to be the most co-ordinated players, like a qb and center, to turn double plays, etc.. When you have people out with injuries or are waiting for a trade to happen, you can't play the eventual starters. I don't believe you just plug guys in and they automatically function well together. Lou needs to play the regulars the last 10 ST days and have them feel comfortable with each other.
  21. Sidd Finch-He of the 168 mph fastball, the New York Mets and George Plimpton. All the rest are mere pikers.
  22. The A's have had trouble filling the upper deck and now have a promotion this year to help out. $35 for ticket and all you can eat and drink-no alcohol.
  23. Top 8..Brewers still up by 3. Hart went 1-2-3. New warning track at Wrigley will be 20 feet, same as most other clubs.
  24. Bottom 7..still 6-3 Brewers. DeRosa says he has to stay off the coffee, Cokes, etc.. for a month. 0-3 today. EPatt has a similiar stance to his brother. Seems to pull off the ball some. He sure needs a steak every day, because he's taller than Corey and could use some weight. Hart pitching.
