  1. This myth needs to die RIGHT NOW. I'm completely sick of hearing it. Yeah, we got swept by Florida and it was pathetic...however, we did NOT back into the playoffs. The cubs have gone 13-7 in their last 20 games. That's hardly "backing" backing in? I think not crushing Brewers had a chance to tie by winning two straight vs a depleted Padre team, IIRC. They went on to win their last two games, it could have resulted in a tiebreaker. I may be wrong, but I think that's what I heard. It may not have necessarily been backing in, but getting swept in FLA could have been fatal. So, what you're saying is, if things would have turned out differently, then things would have turned out differently? Wow, great observation. And what if the cubs DIDNT get swept by the marlins? That's just the same as saying if the Brewers could have beat the padres. You seem to like to deal with hypotheticals and non-fact-based statements an awful lot. You guys deserved it anyways, Brewers fell apart, and never recouped. You guys also like to use the whole pythag stat a lot. Check this out Because it's a stat. Dealing with real numbers and occurrences to estimate what will most likely happen in the future. You're just wildly spraying random statements with no factual backup Yes, but stats aren't always the truth, just check out that link. Our mop up men aren't good, resulting in blowouts which makes our run diff. in the negatives.

It may not have necessarily been backing in, but getting swept in FLA could have been fatal. so what. that series was bookended by a sweep where the Cubs scored a ton of runs, and another series that they went 23 innings without allowing a run. while we were on edge during the Florida series where the Cubs combined for some of its worst and unluckiest baseball since April, we clinched with two games remaining, did so in convincing fashion, and followed that up with a one hitter. stating that the Brewers blew it is horsecrap. it would have taken a freakish hot streak in order for the Cubs to not make it after the Cubs/Pittsburgh series. furthermore, your argument that the Brewers just blew it by themselves detracts from your claim that the NL West is soooooo great. seriously dude, if you want to discuss this on a meaningful level, we will be more than happy to do so. fans of many different teams do so all the time. at this point, you're really bordering on what we would consider trolling. it is great that you have confidence in your team. we have confidence in ours as well. you want to compare and contrast the two, that would be great. as Roast and others have said or alluded to, you want to do it by evaluation of things that can not be quantified, you're not going to get far, and probably end up embarrassed and upset. Trolling? I'm not saying we're going to sweep you, or we're going to win the series. I'm not saying you guys aren't good, I'm not talking trash, I'm just backing my team up.And getting embarrassed? On the internet msg board? Cmon..lol I will admit, I did back myself into a wall with some stupid statements, I'll agree to that.

Yea, but you guys lost vs. FLA one night, MIL followed as well, same with the next night. You would have thought with only a week left, they would have stepped it up and taken advantage of your guys' losses. Apparently not, better team won the division.

  6. Hey, you throw out your stats, I'll throw out mine. Geovany Soto. I meant the whole pythag stat. We obviously didn't play to that.
  7. Wait, isn't that a fact? :D Geovany Soto has more grit, heart, hustle, moxy and knowledge of winning in his throwing hand than the Diamondbacks do on their entire roster. Throw out the stats, I know this is the truth. Do you know his % of throwing out runners? Probably a small sample size...
  8. I'm just curious as I watch this drama unfold, precisely what sort of response were you expecting to your "Throw out the stats, this team knows how to win!" stance, especially coming into a message board dedicated to your team's first round opponents? Just forget it, this will never get anywhere when like you said, this is a Cubs board. I know that, I'm not here to start ish, I just want to talk about the series and give you guys insight on the D'Backs and like to read about your guys' opinions while stating mine as well. Thats fine; but just a little advice. Things like "throwing stats out the window" won't get you far around here. Before a series starts, that's all we have to go on is stats. And it's not like people just randomly make up these "stats." They are simply numerical accounts of things that have actually happened. Sure, we can talk about non-fact-based things such as a "team knowing how to win" (whatever the hell that means). In that case: Theriot has more grit in his left shoelace than your entire team does! See? Didn't really accomplish anything. I know, but you guys are bringing up the same thing that has been brought up since July. Pythag will eventually catch up to them...uh, wrooong.
  9. Having a terrible offense and a decent pitching staff and ending up with 90 wins? So explain how the Cubs are soooo superior to us. You guys only scored like 40 more runs than us, not whole lot. We have the 7th best SP ERA. .5 behind CHC .6 from being the 2nd best in MLB. Do you realize that that's quite a bit? Not really when you're 90-72 compared to 85-77 in the best division in all of MLB WHAAAAATTTTT? Ever heard of the AL east? You're probably right, but 4 teams over .500 when LA was a bunch over .500 not too long ago. It's easily the best in the NL. We won the toughest division. The Cubs got lucky as well. Milwaukee could have EASILY been tied in the Central had they not bent over for SD, you guys got swept by FLA. We both backed into the playoffs, both teams should be fortunate it didn't come down to a tiebreaker.

Not really when you're 90-72 compared to 85-77 in the best division in all of MLB Besides Colorado, the rest of the NL West's offenses are below average. Ok, then I could say the same about your offense and its 50 more runs than us...the Central doesnt have good pitching.

  14. And.. What is your guys' definition of "luck" ??
  15. Uh, no they wouldnt. I think you're confusing stats with money. and what does that statement mean, really? Know how to win? Yeah, I know how to win too; score more runs than the other team. I'm talking about their consistency to win the East, until this year and outscoring their opponents a load. That lineup they have looks like it should win just about every year.
  16. We know how to win. That's all that matters, throw your stats out of the window, or just keep using them for your same arguments to put us down, the postseason is completely different, and if it wasn't, then the Yankees would be winning virtually every year. Good luck, and I'm sure there is going to be TONS of Cubs fans.
  17. Like I said, people always look for reasons why a certain team may be an exception. I look at that lineup and pitching staff, and I don't see a 90 win team. Just cause you don't "see" one, doesn't mean they aren't one. You obviously for a fact haven't seen this team. They are the only team in the MLB to play over .500 EVERY MONTH. Go ahead and look at their run differential, if being 19 games over .500 and having the best record in the NL is "lucky," I'll take it every year + the doubt by everyone. The D'Backs have great chemistry, that wins games, not always talent. The offense may be bad, but it comes through in the clutch situations. Sure we don't blow teams out, cause really, we don't have that type of offense. I don't think we'll really have to worry about getting blown out in the series seeing the main culprits of us being slaughtered, Nippert and Gonzalez, may not make the post season roster.
  18. Don't think Ojeda is an easy out. He has just about made up for Hudson, he's hitting .330 this month, and his glove is almost as good. (no joke) I think Salazar will start in RF for game 1, then Upton for 2, and maybe 3.
  19. Thursday game looks like they would probably put CHI/AZ in at the 9:30 central, that would be 7:30 here.
  20. Where are your seats?
  21. 90-70 isn't lucky. Best team in the NL, isn't lucky. People have said that for months, still wrong. Now, who is pitching for you guys Game 1, 2, 3? Assuming we meet up. 1: Webb vs -- 2: Davis vs -- 3: No idea vs. -- The DBacks have given up more runs than they've allowed. They're clearly a lucky ass team. Ok? We're great in close games, but when we lose we get murdered cause our long relief guys like Edgar Gonzalez, and Dustin Nippert are terrible.Read it

  23. Ugh..this is going to suck, Cubs takeover at Chase...
  24. This would be how a team outperforms a Pythag record by 20 games. Insanity...anyone know what the record is? Theres actually a really good article about how the Diamondbacks are "beating" their Pythagorean Record. They really aren't "beating" anything, they just are really good but tend to lose in blowouts because of how bad the back end of their bullpen is. Where is said article? Don't know if you ever got it: http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/no-mirage-in-arizona/
  25. ugh, Petit. Well, hell, we are up by 1 run and we do lead the league in one run games.. :)
